Chapter 40 Divorce

Lin Xiang raised his shaking hands and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, wondering how the leader knew about his relative. He had only learned about this this morning.

Xia Jianhai watched Lu Jingshen leave the meeting room before he sat down on a chair, wiped the sweat from his forehead, looked at Lin Xiang, and asked doubtfully, "What did Mayor Lu just say?"

Lin Xiang looked at his leader, feeling a little nervous. He said, "My nephew ran into trouble with his company and borrowed money but couldn't pay it back. I guess Mayor Lu is talking about this."

Xia Jianhai frowned and asked, "But what does this have to do with you?"

Lin Xiang's hands and feet were cold, and he was confused for a moment. "Yes, what did Mayor Lu say?"

Xia Jianhai looked at the time, sighed and said, "Let's go back first," then stood up and walked out.

Lin Xiang followed him out with staggering steps.

After returning to the unit, Xia Jianhai returned to the office with a forehead full of question marks on his face. He was worried about this year's promotion. After lighting a cigarette and taking a few puffs, he picked up his mobile phone and dialed the number. He smiled respectfully and said, "Deputy District, you have to save me." Then he told me about going to the city for a meeting.

Listening to the words on the phone, Xia Jianhai was shocked and asked uncertainly: "Leader, what do you mean? Is it that Mayor Lu has taken a fancy to that Jiang Wanning?" Or is it Lin Xiang's nephew's wife?

"Then... then today's meeting in Lu City was just a pretext, and the matter of Lin Xiang's nephew was the main reason for today?" Xia Jianhai asked.

Afterwards, Xia Jianhai said something else on the phone, with a flattering smile on his face: "Thank you, boss. Oh, I was so nervous during the meeting today. Thank you, boss. Okay, I'll remember it." He hung up the phone and dialed the internal line, "Ask Director Lin to come up."

Lin Xiang was completely bewildered. How did Mayor Lu know about his relative? He then answered the phone and, looking anxious, went to his boss's office.

Xia Jianhai looked at Lin Xiang and said seriously, "Go back and take care of your family affairs first. Remember, handle them properly, otherwise even I won't be able to help you with the promotion."

When Lin Xiang heard about the promotion, he stood up in a panic and promised, "Don't worry, Director Xia, I will go back and take care of it immediately. I promise to handle it well."

Xia Jianhai looked at Lin Xiang, smiled and nodded, then watched Lin Xiang hurried out. This was all he could say, and it depended on whether Lin Xiang understood.

City Hall

Lu Jingshen was smoking a cigarette while standing by the window and answering the phone. He blew out a smoke ring and said with a chuckle, "Uncle Gu, I understand. Don't worry, it's okay." Then he hung up the phone.

Turning around, he dialed the internal number and said in a low voice, "Come in."

After a while, Secretary Dong came in and said, "Mayor Lu,"

Lu Jingshen looked at the internal document sent by Gushi, then put out his cigarette and said seriously, "At the last economic development conference held by Gushi, each district was asked to submit its economic development strategy, as well as this document. Let's investigate the data from each district's Human Resources and Social Security Bureau."

Secretary Dong nodded and replied, "Yes, Mayor Lu," then picked up the documents and walked out.

Lu Jingshen glanced at the time and opened his phone again. There was not a single message. He raised his eyebrows and chuckled, "The little girl has grown up."

I didn't reply his message.

On the other side, Jiang Wanning was on the phone with Duan Chengming, listening silently on the other end of the line, "No, I must get a divorce."

Duan Chengming was sitting in the hospital corridor. His second uncle had just called him and scolded him, asking him to deal with his affairs as soon as possible.

Duan Chengming and his mother have been taking care of his father in the hospital, but his phone has been ringing non-stop these past few days, constantly calling him to ask him to pay back the debt, the interest of which has been growing.

It turned out that the man was not the first one to defraud money, but the police said that the money had been transferred abroad a long time ago, and it would be difficult to recover the money in this case.

Duan Chengming's face was filled with regret, and he said in a low voice, "Do we really have to get a divorce?"

Jiang Wanning replied firmly: "Yes, we must get a divorce."

Duan Chengming heard Jiang Wanning's firm tone on the phone, sighed, and touched his face. "Okay, see you at the Civil Affairs Bureau at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning."

When Jiang Wanning heard this, she immediately replied, "Okay, see you tomorrow," and hung up the phone. She breathed a sigh of relief, then turned around and stood at the door of Sister Li's office, knocking on it.

"Enter,"

Jiang Wanning walked in and closed the door.

Sister Li raised her head and asked with a smile, "What's wrong? Wan Ning,"

Jiang Wanning lowered her eyes slightly, gently pinched her trouser legs, then looked up and said, "Sister Li, I'll take half a day off tomorrow."

Sister Li smiled and asked, "This is the first time I see you asking for leave. What are you going to do?"

Jiang Wanning replied: "Well... I'm going to get the divorce certificate tomorrow."

Sister Li was shocked. She came over from her seat and asked worriedly, "Why do you want a divorce? Weren't things going well before?"

Jiang Wanning looked at Sister Li and explained awkwardly, "Actually, my marriage to him was fake. I didn't want my parents to worry, and I didn't want them to know that I was afraid of men touching me, so I had a fake marriage with him. Then some things happened, so..."

Sister Li frowned, took Jiang Wanning's hand and sat on the sofa, and said worriedly: "You, why are you so confused? What can I say to you? You are a good girl and you are getting married for the second time. I thought you were steady, but I didn't expect you to do such a big thing," looking at the little girl with her head down.

Jiang Wanning raised her head, her eyes red as she said, "Well, I really didn't think this through. I thought it was too simple and didn't consider the future."
