Chapter 39 He was sulking
After finishing the accounting work that evening, Sang Ji and Liu Jiao were having dinner.
"I heard that the wife of the Zhou family's Vice Minister gave him a piece of armor, but I feel that it wasn't as thoughtful as the piece of armor you casually gave him."
When Sang Ji ate, the dining table beside him was noticeably quiet.
Liu Jiao was following Wangyoujun's advice to keep him hanging on, not initiating conversation, but simply eating heartily, enjoying her freedom.
They stopped chattering.
Sang Ji, however, took the initiative to start a conversation.
Liu Jiao didn't stop eating; nothing seemed to affect her. Upon hearing this, she replied:
"Why do you say it wasn't a casual gift with any thought? Is it because the Zhou family's Vice Minister is celebrating some important day that his wife sent it?"
A knowing glint flashed in Sang Ji's eyes. He then cleared his throat and said casually, "Oh, it's Zhou's birthday."
His birthday is coming soon.
Will she be able to react?
Seeing Liu Jiao's reaction, Sang Ji's usually tense and cold expression softened with anticipation.
Liu Jiao nodded, said "Oh," and praised Zhou's wife for being very thoughtful.
After a while, seeing that Sang Ji's expression was not right, he wished Vice Minister Zhou a happy birthday.
Sang Ji, however, continued to stare intently at her.
Just as Liu Jiao was about to look back out of curiosity, a cold snort suddenly came from above her head.
Before Liu Jiao could understand what was happening, Sang Ji, without even touching his food, simply flicked his sleeves and left.
Liu Jiao: ?

Just as Liu Jiao was handing over the settled account books to Song, she was suddenly assassinated before the appointed time with Song.
Liu Jiao had already prepared the waistband she would give to Sang Ji for his birthday. She had embroidered every stitch herself, from pattern making to final coloring.
A piece of blood jade is inlaid, hidden and clung to by vines, shining brightly yet understated.
But she felt it was far from enough.
So, when they went up the mountain to collect herbs, they wanted to scent the waistband with incense, adding a fragrance similar to that used to reduce swelling and promote tissue regeneration.
Sang Ji is constantly fighting and doesn't pay attention to his injuries. She could add a fragrance to his waistband to help heal his wounds.
However, when making incense sticks, the herbs must be fresh, and the storage conditions are extremely strict; if someone is careless, they can't be used.
Liu Jiao went to pick them herself.
When he arrived at the back mountain and gathered some herbs, he was assassinated.
They didn't seem to be after her, but they still trapped her in the back mountain.
Judging from this, they're not letting her go out.
Liu Jiao understood almost instantly who had sent the assassin.
It was my mother-in-law, Song.
If they don't let her go down the mountain and miss the deadline for submitting the account books, they can kick her out of the house and make her willingly sign the divorce papers.
Liu Jiao was truly outnumbered and outmatched, like a headless fly; she tried to break out, but was pushed back.
There's no way to get out.
Just as Liu Jiao was caught sneaking away again and was about to be kicked away by the man in black—
The man in black who was about to kick her was suddenly struck first and sent flying from the side.
Liu Jiao was covering her face, her hand still covered with medicinal herbs. Seeing that the pain had subsided for a long time, she looked up in surprise—
Then she saw Sang Ji holding a sword above her head, holding her tightly in his arms.
With her by his side, amidst the clash of swords and the thunder of gunfire, they descended the back mountain and returned to the Sang residence.
Sang Ji gently put her down.
Liu Jiao felt a breath of fresh air and looked up at him.
She noticed that he seemed about to say something but hesitated.
But in the end, he turned and left.
Liu Jiao stared blankly at his remaining figure.
