Chapter 14: Start of Work
With Aunt Meihua's help, Zhong Hui had a much easier time. However, the weather was too hot and they were burning firewood, so by the time she finished cooking, her clothes were soaked.
"It's really too hot today."
"That's right. It feels much hotter this year than last year." Aunt Meihua was also very hot. Her face, which was usually tanned, was now even redder.
"We are not well prepared today. I will cook some mung bean soup later and put it in the refrigerator at night. I will take it out tomorrow to help the workers cool down." Zhong Hui said.
"Okay, let me tell you, when you cook mung bean soup, you should soak the mung beans overnight first. This way the mung beans will be easier to make into a paste." Aunt Meihua suggested.
Zhong Hui nodded in agreement. She really didn't know the answer. It would be difficult to cook the mung bean soup today. The mung beans hadn't been soaked yet, so she would have to make it tomorrow.
The meal was ready, and it was exactly twelve o'clock. Without Zhong Hui calling out, the workers came over from the construction site on their own initiative.
"It's time to eat, it's time to eat." The foreman shouted to the workers in the back who were still laying bricks.
"Right away."
There was also a table next to the small shed. It was what was left in Zhong Hui's old house. I had originally thought of giving it all to Aunt Meihua, but then I remembered that it was a good thing that it was not chopped into firewood.
Speaking of firewood, Zhong Hui felt a little embarrassed. She had originally given all the old furniture to Aunt Meihua, but now she wanted to cook, and Aunt Meihua asked Uncle Xiuye to chop the firewood for her.
It was also her own fault. She didn't expect this. When she thought about it, Zhong Hui felt a little embarrassed.
Aunt Meihua didn't think too much about it and said happily that the firewood helped her a lot.
Zhong Hui thought that when Aunt Meihua's house was expanded, she would have to come and help.
The workers came over one after another, washed their hands and started to eat. Zhong Xiong came out from nowhere and brought over a big watermelon. Zhong Hui took it and cut it into pieces in a few seconds, just enough to relieve the heat for the workers.
After dinner, the workers sat down in the shed to rest. Zhong Hui and Aunt Meihua also ate and cleaned up the dishes. After everything was sorted out, Zhong Hui returned to Zhong Xiong's house.
The two children have returned and are eating popsicles from the refrigerator.
"How did you do in the exam?" Zhong Hui couldn't help but ask.
"I think it's okay. I can do all the questions on the test paper." Linlin said proudly.
Zhong Hui was about to praise her when she saw Zhong Xu sighing beside her, "I can't avoid this meal of stir-fried pork with bamboo shoots."
"Oh, not just one meal, but two or three meals." Yang Fangqin was angry. It was a waste of her to get up early today to send him to school.
"It's okay, it's okay. Maybe you'll do well in the exam. Don't scare yourself before the results come out." Zhong Hui comforted him.
"Yeah, thank you, aunt. I think so too. I've always had good luck. Maybe the answers to those multiple-choice questions I guessed were all correct." Zhong Xu immediately became happy.
Yang Fangqin rolled her eyes repeatedly when she saw this. She didn't know who she inherited this carefree personality from.
Okay, she would wait for five more days and then talk about it after receiving the notice. Yang Fangqin took a few deep breaths, turned around and walked out. She felt angry just looking at him.
Zhong Hui smiled and took out two mung bean popsicles from the refrigerator. She ate one herself and handed the other to Yang Fangqin at the door.
"Come, sister-in-law, have a popsicle to cool down."
Yang Fangqin took it, tore open the wrapping paper, and put the cool popsicle into her mouth. The anger in her heart finally subsided a little.
"Hui, tell me about Zhong Xu. He didn't even finish a math test. Tell me, am I mad at him?"
"He hasn't even finished writing yet, what is he doing?" Zhong Hui also frowned.
"What else can I do? I took a pen and drew on the table. Oh, and I even drew a watch on my wrist."
"Look at him, if he wants a watch, why don't I buy him one? During the exam, he just drew on his hands and didn't answer the questions. I don't know what's going on in his head." Yang Fangqin was depressed.
"In today's world, people attach more and more importance to academic qualifications. With Zhong Xu's condition, he probably won't be able to finish junior high school. What will he do in the future?" Yang Fangqin was worried.
Zhong Xiong just came back and heard it and said, "What's the big deal? I didn't even graduate from junior high school, so I can still do business. At worst, our Zhong Xu can work on the construction site with me in the future. What do you call it? It's like father and son fighting together."
"Haha." Yang Fangqin rolled her eyes at him. "With his math grades, he can only count on his fingers. Do you think you can trust him with the accounts?"
Zhong Xiong was worried, not at all.
"Or, why don't Zhong Xu sign up for that Taekwondo class this summer? Instead, sign him up for a cram school to help him improve his skills."
"You've said something sensible. Okay, if he doesn't pass, he'll have to tutor me during the summer vacation." Yang Fangqin made the final decision.
Zhong Xu, who was eating a popsicle in the living room, suddenly felt that the popsicle in his hand was not tasty at all.
"Oh, you're still the best. You have good grades and don't need tutoring. You can play however you want during the summer vacation." Zhong Xu looked at Zhong Linlin enviously.
Zhong Linlin licked the melted sugar on the popsicle in small sips. She was not like Zhong Xu who took bites of it directly.
After licking the syrup, Linlin narrowed her eyes happily: "No, I still have to learn dancing during the summer vacation."
Zhong Xu sighed: "Learning to dance is better than going to cram school. I would rather learn to dance than go to cram school."
"Hehe..." Zhong Xu's words made Linlin laugh so hard that she couldn't stop.
Zhong Hui and the other three adults at the door also heard it. Yang Fangqin twisted Zhong Xiong's arm angrily: "Your good son."
"What does it have to do with me?" Zhong Xiong rubbed his arm and quickly jumped away.
"Why doesn't it matter? Zhong Xu just follows you. You're so shameless." Yang Fangqin was angry.
Zhong Xiong was helpless and could only mutter in his heart, isn’t Zhong Xu your son too?
Zhong Hui ate the popsicle and watched her elder brother and sister-in-law bickering beside her, which made her enjoy the popsicle even more.
"Brother Zhong, Sister Yang, um, I want to ask you something?" As they were talking, a tenant came over to ask questions.
Yang Fangqin calmed down her tone and said with a smile, "Xiao Liao, what's the matter?"
"Sister Yang, I heard that this house is going to be expanded. I want to ask, can I reserve a room in advance?"
"Of course." Yang Fangqin agreed immediately. "Why? Do you have relatives or friends who need to rent a house?"
This Xiao Liao is from the north. He has been renting a house in her house for half a year and looks quite stable.
"Well, I heard that Shangtuan Village is going to be demolished. With this demolition, tenants like us will have to find new houses. I have a worker in my factory who rents a house in Shangtuan Village. He asked me if there are any houses available in Xiatuan Village, so I came to ask for your help."
"Oh, no problem. We'll add two floors and have sixteen houses. I'll leave one for you." Yang Fangqin replied.
"Thank you, Sister Yang." Xiao Liao left happily.
"Even the tenants know that Shangtuan Village is going to be demolished and have started looking for houses in advance. I'm afraid the demolition will happen very soon." Yang Fangqin was a little depressed.
This Ge Zhihua, Chen Shimei, is so lucky! !
Zhong Hui is quite open-minded and thinks that demolition is a good thing. It will be easier to rent her house then.
Zhong Xiong was a little depressed. He had been struggling for so long, but was it all in vain?
Forget it, forget it. Do your best and leave the rest to fate. He has already done his job. Even if the blame doesn't fall on them, they won't suffer any loss anyway.
