"Does she have any enemies?" the officer continued.
Yan Zimeng shook her head: "She comes from the countryside and has younger siblings, but she is very filial. She sends all the money she earns back home. She is usually quiet and gentle on set, and everyone likes her. How could she have any enemies?"
"Has she done anything unusual these past few days, like...?"
"What do you suspect?" Yan Zimeng's swollen, red eyes widened. "Was it deliberate? Who could be so ruthless?"
"No, we were just asking routine questions."
Yan Zimeng sniffed again: "There's nothing unusual about her. The only thing is, she rarely drives that car after buying it. I usually drive my own car. That's why she said she needed to go out for a while, asked me for two days off, and then drove off in her own car..."
"Okay, thank you, Ms. Yan." The officer stood up. "If you think of anything else, please let us know."
Yan Zimeng nodded, then let her agent, Ning Min, see the person off.
After the person left, Yan Zimeng closed her eyes briefly, turned around and went back to her room, her previous sorrow gone.
After returning to Pear Tree Village, Le Yao was feeling rather listless. She immediately made an excuse that she was tired from riding the donkey cart and went to bed. However, the image of He Feng's bloodied and mangled body kept flashing through her mind...
Yuan Bin returned two hours later, saying that the police had taken away the car and the body, and the preliminary conclusion was that the accident was caused by brake failure, but further investigation was still needed.
Le Yao's fear had subsided; after all, He Feng's death was arguably her own fault—who told her to conspire with a tiger? However, she still felt somewhat heavy-hearted, for it was a human life at stake.
But she knew that solving cases required evidence, and it wouldn't be easy to find out who was behind it all.
Lying back on her bed, Le Yao let out a long sigh. Things had developed far beyond her expectations, and there were probably even more terrifying things to come. So, she had to pull herself together, after all... she still had people she cared about here.
I initially thought it was just a melodramatic CEO romance novel, but it's turned into a thriller/crime film in no time.
"Alan, no matter what happens, you have to eat." Liu Sujuan walked in.
"Mom, I was just scared when I saw how horribly the dead person looked. I'm fine now." Le Yao stood up. "Let's eat."
A hint of worry flashed in Liu Sujuan's eyes, but she said nothing, because they all knew that the child didn't want them to worry, so they wouldn't ask any more questions.
When Nangong Jue arrived at Lishu Village, the sun had already set, but because it was summer, the light was still bright, and people who had already eaten dinner came out one after another to cool off.
The men gathered together to smoke, play chess, and boast; the women gathered together to eat sunflower seeds, knit, and chat; and the children ran around playing and making a ruckus.
The whole village entrance was bustling with activity.
Nangong Jue had never been here before, so he didn't know which household the Han family belonged to, and could only ask.
"Who are you? What do you want with Alan?" The people at the village entrance were wary of Nangong Jue, no matter how good-looking he was, and did not answer his questions immediately.
“I am her husband,” Nangong Jue said matter-of-factly. “I’ve been too busy with work to come before, but I happened to have some free time today, so I came to visit…”
"Are you really Alan's husband?" A middle-aged woman looked Nangong Jue up and down. "How can you prove it?"
