Le Yao was startled, but luckily she was agile enough to lean back and turn around, thus avoiding the other person's blood-red fingernails.
If I had reacted any slower, I probably would have been blinded.
"You still dare to hide? You..." He Rong's voice rose two octaves.
"Enough!" Nangong Jue suddenly roared.
He Rong shuddered in fright.
"Alan, come here." Nangong Jue reached out to Le Yao.
Le Yao walked past He Rong to the bedside and put down the food box she was holding.
"Are you alright?" Nangong Jue carefully examined Le Yao's face.
"It's okay, I dodged quickly and didn't get hit." Le Yao smiled. "Don't worry." Then she glanced at the other two women in the room. She recognized them; they were a mother and daughter, Yan Mei, the wife of He Rong's older brother He Song, and their daughter He Yawei.
Yan Mei has always looked down on her sister-in-law He Rong, and even forbids her own children from having any contact with her, fearing that He Rong's behavior will influence the children.
It's quite rare that they all came together today.
Yan Mei smiled at Le Yao as a greeting, but He Yawei rolled her eyes.
Le Yao: ...
What did she do to deserve this?
"You brat, you're doing this for an outsider..." He Rong had already realized what was happening and rushed over to throw a tantrum.
"Black Hawk," Nangong Jue called out.
Black Hawk quickly walked in from outside.
He Rong's face turned pale the moment she saw Black Hawk: "Fine, I won't say anything more, okay?" This Black Hawk is a barbarian, and he only listens to A Jue. He doesn't give any face to anyone else. If A Jue tells him to throw him out, he definitely will.
She had already thrown it away last time, so she really didn't dare to test her son's patience again.
But he disliked Le Yao even more in his heart.
"Alright, you've all seen it, I'm fine now." Nangong Jue glanced at He Rong, then looked at Yan Mei. "I understand what Auntie means, but I'm afraid I can't help you, since I'm no longer working for the Nangong Group."
"Then forget it." Yan Mei stood up abruptly. "Yawei, let's go." She was putting on the airs of an official's wife.
He Yawei was the first to leave the ward.
"Aren't you leaving yet?" Nangong Jue glanced at He Rong, who was still there. "Don't worry, as long as I don't die, you won't starve."
"You..." He Rong wanted to say something, but seeing her son's impatient look, she could only glare at Le Yao and then turn and leave.
Le Yao touched her nose. Why was everyone so shameless towards her? What had she done to deserve this?
"Alan, don't pay them any attention." Nangong Jue held Le Yao's hand. "They are all insignificant people."
"Irrelevant? But they..."
"In my heart, she's just a stranger to me, related by blood." Nangong Jue reached out and hugged Le Yao's waist, resting his head against her. "Alan, in this world, only you have ever been so good to me without any ulterior motives..."
"Let's eat." Le Yao patted the other person's arm. "Otherwise it'll get cold. Also, what does your aunt want with you?" She was a little curious.
“The Yan family wants to cooperate with the Nangong Group, but because of He Rong, the Nangong family doesn’t like the He family. So she wants me to act as a go-between.” Nangong Jue shrugged and took the chopsticks. “She thinks too highly of me.”
