Nangong Jue shook his head: "I'm afraid that won't work, after all..."
"Never mind, I was just saying." Le Yao sighed. She wasn't a lawyer and had nothing to do with the client. She made the request just because of a momentary lapse of judgment.
"Shuo Shuo's adoption procedures have been completed." Nangong Jue could only change the subject, after all, he had come all this way and did not want to leave so soon.
Le Yao's attention was indeed diverted: "Really? When can we pick them up?"
“Anytime.” Nangong Jue smiled. “Dean Cai said that after we left last time, Shuo Shuo woke up crying for his mother, and for the next few days, he could only calm down by holding your clothes…”
"Then let's do it tomorrow." Le Yao genuinely felt sorry for the little guy.
“Okay.” Nangong Jue nodded. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning, and we’ll go there to sign the papers and get the person.”
"Okay, I won't see you out." Le Yao nodded.
Nangong Jue: ...
"Let me take him/her."
Le Yao: ...
I'll roll my eyes at you; you can figure out the meaning yourself.
Nangong Jue could only touch his nose, and dejectedly got up and walked out.
Just then, Sister Mei came up to call Le Yao to eat. When she saw Nangong Jue, she casually asked, "Is Master Jue leaving? Why don't you stay and eat with us?"
“Okay.” Nangong Jue’s eyes lit up and he nodded immediately.
Le Yao looked at Sister Mei.
Sister Mei is innocent; she was just being polite out of habit.
“It feels like I’m the one in charge here.” Le Yao looked at Nangong Jue. “I haven’t even said a word…”
“Didn’t you say that Sister Mei is family with you? Besides, she’s an elder. If an elder has asked, I can’t very well refuse, can I?” Nangong Jue laughed. “Let’s go. I haven’t tried Sister Mei’s cooking yet.”
Sister Mei looked at Le Yao with an innocent expression.
"Were you also bribed by him?" Le Yao asked as she passed by Sister Mei.
"No," Sister Mei hurriedly shook her head. "Although I'm a nanny, I still have a nanny's bottom line and dignity. I would never betray my employer, otherwise I'll be damned, I'll..."
"Alright," Le Yao quickly stopped the other person from making a solemn oath. "I was just asking casually, I didn't blame you."
Sister Mei finally breathed a sigh of relief, giving Nangong Jue a resentful glare. Who knew this guy was so shameless?
Nangong Jue stayed at Le Yao's place for dinner, then drank tea and ate a fruit platter. In the end, Le Yao, who couldn't stand it anymore, kicked him out. Otherwise, he probably would have stayed overnight.
The next day, at the Angel Welfare Home.
When Shuo Shuo saw Le Yao again, his big eyes lit up, but quickly dimmed, and he pretended not to see her and locked himself in a corner.
“Young Madam, this is his way of expressing his dissatisfaction,” Zheng Ruyu reminded Le Yao. “Because you left before, he thinks you abandoned him…”
"Then what should I do?"
“I used to tell him that I went to buy him toys, and now I’ve come to pick him up, and that I’ll never be separated from him again…”
Le Yao went over and squatted down in front of the little guy, explaining to him softly.
Although the little guy still didn't get close, he would occasionally glance at Le Yao.
"Mommy didn't come the other day, it was Mommy's fault, Mommy apologizes to you. Mommy is here to pick you up now, do you want to come home with Mommy? From now on, Mommy will never leave you behind again, okay?" Le Yao reached out to the little guy.
