Jiang Muhan returned to her cozy little home, where the familiar scent of air freshener still lingered, faint and pleasant.
This little home is extremely important to the three children.
Like their nest.
It holds a special place in their hearts, a place that has been a warm and comforting part of their childhood. The three of them have a deep affection for it, so no matter how spacious the house upstairs is or how many properties they own, nothing feels as secure as this little nest.
Jiang Muhan filled a glass of warm water in the kitchen and felt much better after drinking it. She originally wanted to go back to her room to sleep, but Zhou Jiaqi's behavior of coming back here in the middle of the night made her a little worried.
After hesitating several times, he still pushed open Zhou Jiaqi's half-closed room door. The style inside was not much different from when he was a child, and many traces of his childhood remained. The bed was also a single bed, which he could sleep in now, but he could no longer roll around on the bed as freely as he did when he was a child.
The bed that seemed so big when I was a child now looks so small?
Zhou Jiaqi lay quietly on the bed, his short black hair falling smoothly onto the pillow, revealing his smooth forehead and delicate features.
Jiang Muhan looked at him for a while, then silently climbed onto the bed and lay down next to him. When they were little, the three of them would always roll around on the bed and play. Although Peipei and he always bickered, the three of them were always very close.
But starting in adolescence, the distance between the three of them gradually widened.
Although the feelings and bonds are still deep, it's still noticeable that they're different from when they were children. Everyone has their own life, and everyone is an independent individual. This is what their parents taught them from a young age.
No one can stay together forever.
Jiang Muhan lay quietly with him for a while, staring blankly with her eyes open. After a while, she looked at his trembling eyelashes and then calmly said, "Has anyone ever told you that your technique for pretending to be asleep is really bad?"
She said this with a hint of a smile.
Zhou Jiaqi couldn't hold back any longer. His heart was pounding. He hadn't expected her to come down with him, so he innocently opened his eyes and looked at her, saying, "How come you're awake too? And... how did you know I was coming back here?"
Jiang Muhan actually really liked Zhou Jiaqi's eyes, very beautiful blue eyes, like a pure sea. "I just woke up from a dream and was thirsty and wanted to drink hot water. I only saw you leaving when I got to the living room, so I followed you up to check on you."
"Did you have a nightmare? What did you dream about?"
Zhou Jiaqi's first concern was what kind of dream she had that woken her up, fearing that she might be frightened.
Jiang Muhan smiled slightly, then turned to look at the ceiling. "I don't remember."
Zhou Jiaqi muttered childishly, "What is this? It's like saying nothing at all."
Despite being a high school student, he still had a somewhat childish look on his face, even though he was already quite tall.
Jiang Muhan smiled too; the two of them hadn't had such a peaceful conversation since their last argument.
Zhou Jiaqi was still feeling awkward. Although he was happy to see her with him, he still felt bad thinking about how she had pushed him away earlier. His beautiful blue eyes suddenly lost their luster, and he suddenly said, "Weren't you going to kick me out? Why are you still bothering me?"
Her tone was somewhat aggrieved.
Jiang Muhan glanced at him again, actually wanting to touch his hair and eyes, but it wasn't appropriate. "Don't accuse me of anything. When did I kick you out? You clearly prefer science, so why did you go to the humanities class with me?"
This is inappropriate.
He blindly chose to follow her choice simply because he wanted to stick to her and get used to being with her. But Jiang Muhan couldn't bear the burden of his future. This was a major event that could affect his future life, and she couldn't let him be so willful.
Zhou Jiaqi simply turned his head to look at her, "I do like science, but I like you even more."
He instinctively refuted her, but then belatedly blushed and began stammering an explanation, saying that wasn't the case. Realizing he couldn't explain himself clearly, he said dejectedly, "If only we were biological siblings, we wouldn't have to avoid suspicion, wouldn't have to worry about what others would say about us, and could always bicker and fight without any problem..."
After he finished speaking, he even started to cry, feeling wronged. Ah, the little crybaby has turned into a big crybaby.
Jiang Muhan felt a lump in her throat and froze. She hurriedly reached out to wipe his tears, her beautiful blue eyes welling up with tears again, her eyelashes glistening with moisture.
Finally, she hurriedly slapped his forehead, her face flushed, and said, "What nonsense are you talking about?!"
Zhou Jiaqi then turned away and shut himself in, looking like a mushroom growing on the ground, completely resigned to his fate. He really didn't want to be separated from her.
Sometimes, growing up comes at the cost of losing other things.
Jiang Muhan didn't understand either, but she sighed and gave up, saying, "Actually, I wasn't used to it at first either."
Zhou Jiaqi turned to look at her again and was shocked for a moment. But thinking about it, it made sense. The three of them had been together since they met, but after junior high school, Peipei had more hobbies and spent less time with the two of them. Later, only the two of them were inseparable.
Reason tells him that gradually separating and becoming independent is the right thing to do, but emotionally he just can't bear to part with it.
Jiang Muhan also scratched her hair in frustration, but then she thought that she would eventually get used to it.
Zhou Jiaqi looked at her for a while before lying down next to her and staring at the ceiling. The two of them couldn't sleep at night and just stared blankly.
Adolescence is often filled with inexplicable worries that leave them confused.
