Chapter 53

Chapter 53

Gao Yinxi, holding onto the cold glass railing, felt a sudden dizziness.

The intense dizziness hadn't completely subsided when she struggled to sit up, feeling a familiar wetness between her legs. Looking down, she saw pale pink bloodstains slowly spreading across her light-colored loungewear.

"No, don't..." Her voice trembled, and her right hand instinctively protected her lower abdomen.

At that moment, intense fear was suffocating her.

She was three months pregnant but hadn't yet shown any signs of pregnancy. However, ever since she first started bleeding a week ago, she had been constantly aware of the presence of this fragile life.

During this period, the doctor strictly advised her to rest in bed, and she did indeed follow the doctor's orders carefully. She hadn't been to the company for a week, and she had handed over the company and hotel matters to her adoptive father to prepare for a full pregnancy.

She was on the stairs now because she had been lying in bed for too long and her back was a little sore. She got up and went downstairs to take a walk in the community garden, but unexpectedly, she suddenly felt dizzy and fell down while going downstairs.

The villa's spiral staircase now seemed like an insurmountable barrier to her.

She gripped the handrail, trying to stay calm, and moved upwards step by step. "Calm down, Gao Yinxi, you must calm down."

She muttered to herself, her nails digging deep into her arm, the pain bringing her back to her senses. The seeping blood mingled with the bloodstains between her legs, forming a bizarre pattern.

She fumbled for her phone, which had slipped from her hand when it fell, and shakily pressed the shortcut keys.

"It's the second watch of the night, I fell... and I'm bleeding again..." She tried to keep her voice steady, but her sobs betrayed her fear. "Please come back..."

The sound of a chair falling over came from the other end of the phone. "I'll be right back. Don't move. Call 120!" Yuan Ergeng's voice was hoarse with tension.

"I've already called, you come back too."

"Lie still, I'll be there in fifteen minutes!"

"President Yuan?" The subordinate next to him saw that his handsome face was pale and asked cautiously.

"Xiao Liang, come with me." Yuan Ergeng grabbed the phone and rushed out of the conference room without saying a word.

Assistant Xiao Liang looked tense. Although he didn't know what had happened to the boss, he still took off and rushed out with Yuan Ergeng.

The remaining people in the meeting room looked at each other, discussed for a few words, and then continued the previous meeting.

The waiting time felt like an eternity.

Gao Yinxi curled up on the floor, not daring to move an inch. Her vision blurred and a sense of fear welled up inside her.

But she dared not think about what would happen if she lost the baby.

The thought of this caused her excruciating pain, and in the brief moments between dizziness and lucidity, she could only frantically pray to the gods and Buddhas, chanting scriptures and begging for their protection so that her baby could be safe.

Fifteen minutes later, Xiao Liang finally delivered Yuan Ergeng to Bishui Villa.

As soon as the car came to a stop, Yuan Ergeng rushed upstairs. When he saw Gao Yinxi's face covered in tears and the bloodstains on her pants, his pupils contracted sharply, but he quickly calmed down, picked her up, and carried her to the car door.

Xiao Liang was guarding the car door when he saw Yuan Ergeng carrying Gao Yinxi, whose pants were covered in blood, and he was startled.

"President Yuan."

"Go to Wenhua Hospital. Drive carefully and quickly," Yuan Ergeng instructed in a hoarse voice.

Xiao Liang could only nod nervously.

The smell of disinfectant in the emergency room was pungent and unpleasant.

"Threatened miscarriage, but the fetal heartbeat is still there, you're lucky." Dr. Lin, the attending physician, frowned as he reviewed the test results. "Ms. Gao, I remember you. You came a week ago, and I told you to rest in bed. How did you fall again?"

"I just wanted to go downstairs for a walk," Gao Yinxi said weakly.

Dr. Lin turned to Yuan Ergeng, his tone serious, "Your wife is almost 35 years old, which is considered advanced maternal age, so she already needs to be extra careful. Now she's been diagnosed with gestational hypertension, and on top of that, she fell... If there's another accident, I can't guarantee she can keep the baby."

"It wasn't me—"

Gao Yinxi subconsciously tried to correct him, but was interrupted by Yuan Ergeng.

"Doctor, what should we do? What should we be careful about?" Yuan Er gripped Gao Yinxi's hand tightly, his palms sweaty.

"She needs absolute rest and must be by someone's side at all times. Her blood pressure needs to be monitored daily, and her diet must be strictly controlled." Dr. Lin pushed up his glasses. "Most importantly, she can't fall again. Her current dizziness is a combination of high blood pressure and pregnancy; any bump could have irreversible consequences."

"Okay, we will definitely follow the doctor's orders." Gao Yinxi breathed a sigh of relief, and tears welled up again, this time out of comfort.

On the way home, the atmosphere in the car was much more relaxed than on the way there.

Yuan Er held Gao Yinxi in his arms, both of them feeling a sense of relief and lingering fear.

When he got home, his adoptive father, Gao Shanhai, was already waiting in the living room.

Upon hearing that his daughter had fallen, he rushed back from the hotel.

“The stairs in this villa are too dangerous,” Gao Shanhai said, frowning. “I’ll hire two caregivers to take care of you in shifts, 24 hours a day.”

While waiting for Gao Yinxi and Li Chi'an to return, he had thoroughly inspected the house from top to bottom and was dissatisfied with many aspects of it.

Even though the renovation team for this house was his own team.

Yuan Er shook his head. "Uncle, it's not a problem with the person, it's a problem with the house. Yinxi needs to rest, but she still needs to move around the house. This spiral staircase is too steep, it's dangerous even if someone is with her."

He paused, as if he had made up his mind, "Let's move to Jinyu Huafu. I have a large flat there, all single-level design, no stairs, and the balcony overlooks the mountains and the sea, the view is beautiful. My parents also live in a villa in the same community, so they can take care of each other."

Gao Yinxi hesitated for a moment.

She and Yuan Ergeng were not married yet, so she felt it was inappropriate to move into his house.

Moreover, Yuan Ergeng's parents and his son from his previous marriage also lived there.

“I have my own apartment, I’ll move there.”

“Your apartment is small and can’t accommodate other people. You need someone to take care of you.” Yuan Er frowned.

"Although the apartment is small, it still has three rooms." Gao Shanhai didn't really want his daughter to live in the Yuan family's house.

It's not like I don't own a house, why would I go to some Golden Royal Mansion?

Yuan Ergeng finally broke the silence, "I'm worried about you living there alone."

“Aren’t you here too?” Gao Yinxi gazed at the fleeting street scene outside the window and said softly, “My adoptive father has already said he’s going to hire a nanny.”

“I have to work during the day and can only go home at night.” Yuan Ergeng said with a worried look. “How can I feel at ease having a nanny take care of you during the day? If something happens to you, I’ll be scared to death, baby.”

Yuan Ergeng squatted down, held her hand, and pleaded, "Let's move to Jinyu Huafu. My parents live in the villa in the community, so they can take care of you anytime. It's also close to my company, so I can go home to be with you at noon."

Gao Yinxi hesitated.

Gao Shanhai was moved by Yuan Ergeng's words and, contrary to his usual behavior, agreed, "Let's do as Ergeng says. Don't worry about the hotel; I can handle it."

Three days later, Gao Yinxi moved into Yuan Ergeng's Jin Yu Hua Fu penthouse.

The 180-degree floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of the city, the open-plan design makes the space feel bright and airy, and most importantly, there are no stairs at all.

“Xixi, this will be your home from now on.” Yuan Ergeng hugged her from behind, gently stroking her slightly protruding belly. “I will protect you and the baby.”

Gao Yinxi leaned against him, feeling a mix of emotions. Moving to the Yuan family's house was not part of her original plan, but she had to move there because of her health needs.

Thinking about having more interactions with the Yuan family in the future, she wasn't nervous, but she wasn't particularly looking forward to it or accepting of it either.

Because of his busy work schedule, Yuan Ergeng was unable to accompany Gao Yinxi all day, so Yuan's mother took the initiative to take care of her.

The doorbell rang the next morning.

Gao Yinxi opened the door and saw a woman around sixty years old with an elegant demeanor, carrying a thermos box; it was Yuan's mother.

And standing next to her was a boy, Yuan Lang.

"Good morning, Yinxi. Are you hungry? I brought you breakfast." Mother Yuan smiled warmly. "Xiao Lang, quickly call Yinxi Auntie."

Yuan Lang turned his face away angrily, clearly unwilling to call out.

"Good morning, Auntie." Yuan Lang didn't want to greet her, so Gao Yinxi didn't want to argue with him. "Please come in."

"I had someone buy free-range chickens and specially made chicken soup for you to nourish your body." Yuan's mother was very enthusiastic about taking care of Gao Yinxi.

Yuan Er asked her to take care of Gao Yinxi, and she came happily, as if the unpleasantness between her and Gao Yinxi at her niece's engagement party had never happened.

This eased Gao Yinxi's unease considerably.

"Yinxi, are you getting used to living here?" Yuan's mother placed the breakfast she had brought on the table, only to find that the nanny Gao Shanhai had hired was also setting out breakfast. "You should eat more soup in the morning."

Gao Yinxi's breakfast is more Western-style, with various bacon, fried eggs, toast, and fruit salad on the table.

"I wanted to eat it today, so I asked Sister Ping to make it."

She opened the thermos and poured soup for Gao Yinxi, saying, "Don't eat those, eat this instead, it's nutritious."

"Okay." Gao Yinxi sat down at the table, picked up the soup bowl, and took a small sip. "It's still very hot."

"I got up early this morning to cook it, and I brought it over as soon as it was done."

I don't know if it's because he came to Gao Yinxi's place, but Yuan Lang seemed to have a burning sensation and an itchy butt no matter where he sat, he was wandering around and jumping around.

Gao Yinxi was a little annoyed by the noise he was making, but Yuan's mother didn't think anything of it.

"It's too quiet here. Ergeng is busy with work all day, you must be bored by yourself. I'll bring Xiaolang here to keep you company every day from now on. Anyway, I'll bring him here either way, it'll be more convenient to take care of him together."

Gao Yinxi was about to politely decline when Yuan Lang suddenly spoke up, "I don't want to come! This is Dad's house, not yours!"

"Langlang! How can you talk like that? Aunt Gao is also your father's wife." Yuan's mother scolded, then turned to apologize to Gao Yinxi, "Langlang is still young and doesn't understand. Don't take what he said to heart. His mother has been busy with her business recently and left him with us old folks. She's not happy about it."

Gao Yinxi was a little bothered by Yuan's mother's claim that she was Yuan Ergeng's wife, so she directly told Yuan's mother, "Auntie, Ergeng and I are just boyfriend and girlfriend."

“You two already have a child, so you’re bound to get married.” Gao’s mother believed that her son would marry Gao Yinxi, and that she would definitely marry her after the child was born.

Since she was going to get married sooner or later, she would naturally become Ergeng's wife.

She didn't think there was anything wrong with her relationship with her grandson; in fact, she felt it was giving Gao Yinxi face.

"We'll talk about that after we're married." If we're not married, you can't call her your wife.

Yuan Ergeng can talk whatever he wants in private, but she has to maintain the boundaries of her identity in front of everyone.

However, Yuan's mother did not understand Gao Yinxi's attitude towards this matter. She thought that she was thinking about getting married, so she smiled and said, "Yinxi, the most important thing for you now is to take good care of your health. Don't think about anything else. After the baby is born, our Yuan family will definitely give you a grand wedding."

She said that because her son often talked about it in front of her.

Gao Yinxi is the eldest daughter of the Gao family, and they naturally support her son's willingness to marry her.

Gao Yinxi twitched the corners of her mouth and drank the chicken soup that Yuan's mother had brought.

We're not on the same wavelength, so talking to each other is exhausting.

Whether or not she gets married is her and Yuan Ergeng's business. She can listen to whatever Yuan's mother says if she wants, or ignore it if she doesn't.

Seeing that Gao Yinxi didn't say anything more, Yuan's mother turned to look at Langlang, who was jumping around on the sofa with the TV remote, changing the phone channels and the voices.

He has no patience to watch any TV programs, but he makes a lot of noise.

Gao Yinxi reluctantly finished the soup that Yuan's mother had prepared in her bowl, then got up and said to Yuan's mother, "Auntie, I'm done eating. I'm going to my room to rest."

"Okay, okay, go ahead and rest more." Yuan Er had already told Yuan's parents about Gao Yinxi's condition three days ago, and the two elders were worried about her health.

After Gao Yinxi walked a few steps away, Yuan's mother said to Yuan Lang in a persuasive way, "Langlang, Aunt Gao has little brothers and sisters in her arms, so you need to rest well. Turn the TV down a bit, or I won't bring you here to play anymore."

Gao Yinxi heard Yuan Lang loudly retort to Yuan's mother, "I won't, hmph! She's not carrying my younger brother or sister. I don't have any younger brothers or sisters. If I did, it would be my mother who would give birth to them."

Gao Yinxi paused, turned slightly, and saw the little boy standing on the sofa, a head taller than Yuan's mother, with an angry face and hostile eyes. It was not the expression of an eight-year-old child.

Overall, Yuan's mother is a kind-hearted elder who takes good care of Gao Yinxi.

Even though Gao Yinxi was worried about troubling her and didn't want her to cook herself, saying that the housekeeper could do it, she still came to see her every day, said a few words to her, or had a meal with her and carefully inquired about her preferences.

She remembered every instruction the doctor gave her and reminded Gao Yinxi to check her blood pressure, take her medication, and rest on time.

But problems continued to arise with Yuan Lang.

During this time, Meng Wan started a company with a partner. I heard that she was busy with her business and had no time to take care of her child, so Yuan Lang could only spend most of his time living with his grandparents.

When Yuan's mother came to take care of Gao Yinxi, she naturally brought her grandson along. In her heart, she actually hoped that Yuan Lang and Gao Yinxi could spend more time together and ease their relationship.

Sometimes, if Yuan's mother sat for a long time, she would have Yuan Lang bring his homework to do here.

Gao Yinxi was grateful for Yuan's mother's meticulous care, but the arrival of Yuan Lang left her physically and mentally exhausted.
