Chapter 63

Chapter 63

Li Chian and Xu Zhuwen talked about Old Lady Zhao.

Why bother?

Living among people, it's inevitable to gossip. At the very least, kind people won't gloat over the suffering of others, nor will they build their own happiness on the pain of others.

...

Yuan Ergeng placed his hand on Gao Yinxi's stomach; his palm was slightly damp.

"I'll be able to see the baby in two or three months."

He never misses an opportunity to have physical contact with himself.

Gao Yinxi looked at his face, which had become rounder again, and said, "We've both gained weight."

She ate all the food she couldn't eat during her pregnancy, but he ate it all.

"That's perfect! After you finish your session, I'll lose weight with you."

He himself doesn't have any problems with obesity anxiety.

“I called my dad yesterday, and he said we should consider getting Hong Kong residency for the baby.”

“Hong Kong identity is beneficial for education.” Yuan Er seriously considered Gao Yinxi’s suggestion. “Internationalized curriculum, multilingual environment, and it will be easier to apply to prestigious overseas universities in the future.”

Gao Yinxi certainly knew the advantages of having a Hong Kong identity.

Several of her friends' children are studying in Hong Kong and have obtained Hong Kong residency, and she herself has been paying attention to Hong Kong's birth policy, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

"We need to get married first to obtain Hong Kong residency."

"You knew that?" Gao Yinxi asked in surprise.

“Meng Wan also wanted to get one for Langlang before.” Yuan Ergeng’s tone was as cautious as if he were defusing a bomb.

Gao Yinxi glanced at him indifferently, "I want to eat grapes, you go wash them."

The setting sun cast dappled light and shadow on her face through the window.

Yuan Ergeng stood up and said, "Let me get you another young coconut."

After becoming pregnant, the doctor advised Gao Yinxi to eat more young coconuts. Fresh young coconuts were always at home, and she often drank them like water.

I don't want to eat right now.

Soon, Yuan Ergeng brought over a plate of fresh, juicy fruit, including grapes, green grapes, strawberries, and mangoes. The colorful presentation made it look so appealing that it looked delicious.

Gao Yinxi took it and ate it in silence.

"Let's get married." Yuan Ergeng picked up his fork and ate a few pieces of mango before speaking slowly, "Soon, you'll be giving birth too."

Gao Yinxi finally turned to look at him.

Even in the sunset, Yuan Ergeng's profile remained striking, his eyes deep and focused.

"That works too." Feeling the frequent movements of the little life inside her, and thinking about the patient and responsible care Yuan Er had given her since she became pregnant, as well as the thoughtful care from the Yuan family.

Gao Yinxi thought that this marriage might not be impossible.

...

A week later, Yuan Ergeng went straight into Gao Shanhai's office on the top floor of the Six Senses Hotel.

The floor-to-ceiling windows offer a panoramic view of the bustling city, while the interior displays priceless antiques and works of art.

Gao Shanhai sat behind a large mahogany desk. Although he was over sixty years old, his eyes were still as sharp as an eagle's.

"I want to marry Yinxi." Yuan Ergeng got straight to the point, without any pleasantries. "I will take responsibility for her."

Gao Shanhai raised an eyebrow and sized up the young man in front of him without making a sound.

He certainly knew Yuan Ergeng and had met him on many social occasions. This man was ambitious and capable, but as a father, he never thought he was a good match for his daughter.

"Responsible?" Gao Shanhai repeated the word slowly. "How do you plan to take responsibility for my daughter?"

“A villa, which I will transfer to Yinxi’s name; a Porsche, the car keys are here; and cash, which can be transferred at any time.” Yuan Ergeng placed the documents and a set of keys on the table, his tone calm but unquestionable, “But neither of us wants to have a wedding. Weddings are too troublesome, and neither of us likes commotion.”

Gao Shanhai laughed, his laughter echoing in the spacious office. "Xiao Yuan, marriage isn't just a matter between the two of you, but between the Gao family and your Yuan family. My daughter, Gao Shanhai's daughter, deserves a grand wedding. Whether it's Yinxi or my Gao family, we have many relatives and friends, and I also have many business partners and social celebrities to invite. This isn't a question of whether you want to have it or not."

He got up from behind his mahogany desk and slowly walked to the tea table in the other reception area and sat down. “If you’re having a wedding, you don’t need to worry about the wedding arrangements. I will arrange the best team to prepare everything, starting at least three million. You can take care of your own things as you wish.”

Yuan Ergeng remained silent for a moment before finally giving in, "Uncle, if Yinxi agrees, I have no problem."

I left Gao Shanhai's office.

Yuan Ergeng then drove straight home.

Gao Yinxi, who rarely sits on the sofa reading, was a little surprised to see him appear. "Is there something you forgot to take?"

"Have you had breakfast?" Yuan Ergeng walked over and sat down next to Gao Yinxi, who immediately put her feet on his lap.

"have eaten."

“I just went to see your father.” Yuan Ergeng truthfully relayed her conversation with her father.

Gao Yinxi didn't even look up when she heard this. "I've already said I don't want to have a wedding."

“But your father insists.” Yuan Ergeng’s words were full of difficulty.

“I know what he’s thinking.” Gao Yinxi finally looked up and smiled. “Let’s talk about the wedding later. Look at me now, I look like a bear. There’s no way I’d show up at the wedding even if you killed me.”

She's such a proud person, how could she allow herself to look so ugly in such a grand setting?

“It’s not too late to have the wedding after I’ve given birth and recovered my figure.” Yuan Ergeng laughed. “Your dad is right. A wedding is a social occasion. At the very least, we should help him earn back the money he spent on wedding gifts.”

"He cares about his reputation, but I find it annoying." Gao Yinxi raised her two beautiful, natural eyebrows slightly. "By the way, what about the betrothal gifts?"

"Of course I've prepared the betrothal gifts," Yuan Er said, sounding quite excited. "I personally promised your father, how could I possibly lie?"

He immediately pulled out his car keys and a bank card from his pocket. "Here's the cash and car keys. As for the house, you want it? I'll take you to transfer the ownership tomorrow."

“I’ve accepted the betrothal gifts. Let’s transfer the house title tomorrow.” Gao Yinxi reached out and took the car keys and bank card, then continued, “It shows you still have some sense of responsibility.”

She certainly wouldn't refuse the betrothal gifts offered by Yuan Ergeng.

There's no need for politeness or affectation when it comes to real money.

She doesn't want these things; plenty of other people do.

Who would complain about having too much money?

Besides, once the two get married, Yuan Er will inevitably have to rely on her career and family resources.

She deserves this money.

How can you marry Gao Yinxi without any sincerity?

Seeing that she had answered, Yuan Ergeng leaned closer to her and asked, "So... what about the wedding?"

Gao Yinxi chuckled, "Let's talk about it later. If my dad really wants to do it, then we'll do it."

Her adoptive father wanted to use her wedding to make a scene, and she couldn't completely refuse.

This is the duty that a daughter of the Gao family should fulfill.

Yuan Ergeng remained calm. "Alright, I understand. Just tell me what you need me to do."

“If you feel you’ve done it before and don’t want to do it again, you can just say so.” Gao Yinxi was silent for a while before choosing to bring up Yuan Ergeng’s concerns.

Yuan Ergeng's eyes flickered. "How could that be, baby? Don't you know how much I love you? I dream of marrying you."

"Alright, alright." Gao Yinxi pushed Yuan Ergeng's head aside.

At her age, if she takes everything so seriously, then she's just naive.

The day for getting the marriage certificate is set for Friday.

The two had originally planned to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau early in the morning, but Gao Yinxi suffered from severe morning sickness and didn't wake up until after 10 a.m.

Yuan Ergeng was already dressed and ready, wearing a tailor-made dark gray suit, his hair was carefully styled, and he even sprayed hair gel.

Gao Yinxi took out a white collared dress from the closet and put it on. She went out without makeup, but put on some lipstick to make her complexion look better.

The swelling during her pregnancy made her originally slender fingers rounded, so she definitely couldn't wear a ring anymore, and she never intended to wear one anyway.

"Do we really have to go today?" she asked, frowning, her tone harsh due to the discomfort caused by morning sickness.

Yuan Ergeng was adjusting his tie in front of the mirror in the entryway when he heard this and turned around. "It was arranged. If you're not feeling well, we can..."

"Go on, go on, the sooner you finish this, the sooner it's over." Gao Yinxi interrupted him, grabbed her handbag, and walked out.

She was wearing flat shoes, but she still looked tall.

Yuan Er caught up quickly and opened the door for her.

In the elevator, he stole glances at her profile several times, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.

Gao Yinxi pretended not to notice and focused intently on the changing floor numbers.

Yuan Ergeng drove a low-key black Mercedes out of the underground garage. The car was spotless and had been specially scented with a new cedar fragrance that Gao Yinxi liked.

She leaned back in the passenger seat, closing her eyes to rest, and could feel Yuan Ergeng's occasional glances.

"Are you nervous?" Yuan Ergeng suddenly asked while waiting at a red light.

Gao Yinxi opened her eyes and caught a glimpse of his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, the veins on the back of his hands bulging, showing that he was using force.

"What's there to be nervous about? It's just getting a marriage certificate."

Yuan Er pursed his lips and said nothing more.

It was nearly 11 o'clock when we arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau. There weren't many people in the lobby. Several couples were sitting on the benches waiting, some cuddling intimately, and some standing silently to each other.

The appearance of Gao Yinxi and Yuan Ergeng attracted a lot of attention. He was dressed in a suit and she was heavily pregnant, but both of them had a good temperament.

Taking a number, filling out a form, and queuing—the process went more smoothly than I expected.

The staff member smiled and extended their hand, saying, "Please show both of our ID cards."

Gao Yinxi quickly took out her ID card from her small bag and placed it in front of the staff.

Yuan Ergeng searched through all his pockets, his face gradually turning pale.

He then rummaged through his briefcase, taking out the documents one by one, his movements becoming increasingly hurried.

"Oh no, my ID card is missing. I probably forgot to bring it." Yuan Ergeng looked at Gao Yinxi, fine beads of sweat appearing on his forehead. "Wife, believe me, I didn't do it on purpose. I definitely didn't forget to bring my ID card because I didn't want to get married."

The staff member even smiled and comforted him, "Don't worry, take your time and see if it's tucked inside any documents."

Gao Yinxi's tone was surprisingly calm, "If we can't find it, so be it. We can get it today if we can, but it's not a big deal if we can't. We can find other ways to get Hong Kong residency for the baby; there's no need to get married."

These words were like a bucket of cold water poured over Yuan Ergeng's head.

He stood there, stunned, his brow furrowed, as if he wanted to say something but couldn't make a sound.

Gao Yinxi almost felt sorry for him, thinking that the person in front of her looked like an abandoned large dog who had been carefully dressed up only to find that his owner didn't care at all.

She found it a little funny for a moment, and she did laugh. "Okay, if it really doesn't work, let's go home first and come back this afternoon."

Yuan Er slapped his forehead, looking extremely remorseful.

But soon, his eyes lit up, as if he had grasped a lifeline, "I have an electronic ID card! Can I use my electronic ID card?"

The staff member nodded, "Sure, as long as you can retrieve the valid identification on the official app."

Yuan Er breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly took out his phone to operate it.

Gao Yinxi looked at him silently and suddenly felt that Yuan Er was very different from the image of someone who was always at ease in her memory.

The formalities are finally completed.

Even after receiving the two red certificates, Yuan Ergeng was still unable to calm down.

He happily flipped through their marriage certificate, looking at it over and over again, finally gazing at the photo on it. In the photo, Gao Yinxi was also smiling, but his smile was very restrained. He smiled like a fool who had found a treasure.

"Wife, we..."

He turned his head to say something, but found Gao Yinxi staring at him with a gentle smile in her eyes.

Seeing Yuan Ergeng moved him to tears, he hugged Gao Yinxi tightly and said, "Wife, I have finally married you."

He continued talking incessantly the whole way, appearing very excited, and then mysteriously said he had a surprise for her.

What is it?

"Let's go eat first, and you'll know after we eat."

Lunch was booked at a high-end Western restaurant.

Gao Yinxi originally thought it was just a simple meal, but she was stunned when she opened the restaurant door.

The restaurant was completely empty, yet it was decorated in a romantic and beautiful style, clearly because Yuan Ergeng had booked the entire place.

This restaurant is one of Gao Yinxi's favorite restaurants. At this moment, every table inside is decorated with blooming tulips, ranging from light pink to deep purple, all of which are her favorite flowers.

“I remember you said you liked tulips,” Yuan Ergeng explained softly, “so I had their florists use tulips for all the arrangements.”

Gao Yinxi didn't say anything, but a wave of emotion welled up in her heart.

A faint floral fragrance filled the air, blending with the restaurant's original aroma.

She was led by Yuan Ergeng to a seat by the window, where she could see a panoramic view of the city's central park.

A waiter very considerately pulled out chairs for them, his movements as gentle as if he were treating the most distinguished guests.

"You should have said you wanted to go out for dinner earlier, then I could have at least dressed myself up a bit." Gao Yinxi suddenly realized that she was dressed a little too casually today.

She saw two photographers standing not far away.

"It's okay, honey, you'll look good no matter how you take the picture."

The staff nearby chimed in, "Mrs. Yuan, don't worry, we'll take beautiful pictures of you."

Gao Yinxi smiled at them and said, "Then you'd better take good pictures."

The restaurant was immediately filled with joyful laughter.
