Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Sure enough, Lin Nana reappeared at 10 a.m. the next day, this time accompanied by several people with cameras.

"Mr. Gao, this is your last chance." Lin Nana remained arrogant. "Give me one million yuan in compensation for emotional distress, or I'll immediately release these photos to the media!"

Gao Yinxi pressed the recorder in her pocket and calmly replied, "Ms. Lin, your request is suspected of being extortion. I have already called the police."

Lin Nana's expression changed drastically, "You wouldn't dare!"

"For the safety of the hotel and its employees, I have this responsibility," Gao Yinxi said firmly, her expression serious. "If you don't believe me, you can continue to try."

Having been a CEO for a long time, Gao Yinxi naturally exudes an air of authority.

Her assertive attitude stunned not only Lin Nana, but also the photographers around her who were holding cameras.

Ten minutes later, Gao Yanshu arrived with the police.

After listening to Lin Nana's statement and reviewing the audio evidence, the police took her away for investigation on suspicion of extortion and disturbing public order.

The group of people who claimed to be "reporters" also left in a hurry.

…………

That afternoon, Gao Shanhai called Gao Yinxi and Gao Yanshu to the chairman's office. "Yinxi, you and your brother handled this matter very well."

Gao Yinxi simply nodded and didn't say anything more.

Gao Yanshu chuckled, "Old man, do you have anything else to say?"

Gao Shanhai paused for a moment, "You bastard, I'm your father, and you don't even call me 'Dad' anymore."

"You should be grateful I didn't call you 'Old Deng'," Gao Yanshu rolled his eyes in a very unseemly way, opened the door, and walked out of the chairman's office.

Gao Shanhai, standing behind him, pounded his chest with anger, "That brat!"

After Gao Yanshu left, he turned to face Gao Yinxi, his expression much better. "What has your brother been busy with lately? He's never home."

Gao Yinxi sneered inwardly, thinking, "It's not like you've ever gone home yourself."

...

As Gao Yinxi emerged from the chairman's office, exhausted, she walked out of the hotel and smiled when she saw Yuan Ergeng waiting for her by the car.

"Your dad didn't say anything, did he?" Yuan Ergeng asked with a smile as he opened the car door.

"Thanks to your advice." Gao Yinxi finally relaxed. "This matter is finally over. I was worried about what my uncle and cousin would say, but I didn't expect them to agree with me this time."

Yuan Ergeng started the car, saying, "You protected the hotel's interests. If they don't understand that, then they're not worth your time."

"My uncle sent me a message." Gao Yin looked out the window at the darkening sky and suddenly felt that the gloom of the past few days had been swept away.

"how?"

"She said I did the right thing today, and that my dad is a complete scoundrel."

My uncle was still tactful.

She remembered her cousin coming to the office to gossip with her, and how her dad was being scolded by her uncle like a grandson. It felt like drinking an ice-cold soda after exercising outdoors in the summer – so refreshing!

Yuan Er laughed even harder, "Right? You protected the hotel's interests. Even if your dad is embarrassed for a moment, he won't say anything in the end."

Gao Yinxi turned to look at Yuan Ergeng, who was focused on driving, and a warm feeling welled up in her heart. "That's true."

"That's just human nature." Yuan Ergeng stopped at a red light and took a thermos from the back seat. "This is soup Mom made. Do you want some?"

"Your mom made this soup?" Gao Yinxi's eyes lit up with surprise. "You just went to get it?"

When Gao Yinxi was handling official business, Yuan Ergeng would usually avoid her. When he left earlier, she thought he had gone out for a drive, but she didn't expect him to have gone straight home to get soup.

"Hmm." Yuan Ergeng's face was full of smugness. "Try it quickly."

Gao Yinxi couldn't wait to open the insulated bag, which contained a soup spoon, chopsticks, and everything else she needed.

As soon as the bowl and chopsticks were lifted, Gao Yinxi smelled a strong aroma of medicinal herbs. "Is this a medicinal meal?"

"This is to help you recover," Yuan Er said considerately. "I told my parents that we're trying to conceive, and they were very happy. They even said that you should come over for dinner more often when you have time."

Of course, in addition to inviting Gao Yinxi home for dinner, the two elders also subtly inquired about whether they were planning to get married.

Yuan Er was neither opposed to nor in a hurry about this matter, and simply said that he would leave everything to Yin Xi.

Seeing that he didn't seem interested in going into more detail, Yuan's mother quickly changed the subject.

Yuan Ergeng's father was a famous chef in Xianghai City, and his restaurant was highly regarded in the city. Yuan's mother also learned excellent cooking skills from him.

The delicious and warm soup made Gao Yinxi feel incredibly touched. "How are your parents doing lately?"

"They're doing well. They've been with Langlang these past few days." When Yuan Lang came back from abroad sick last time, the two elders of the Yuan family were quite worried. They also felt that their former daughter-in-law was somewhat unreliable, so they moved from their original house to Yuan Ergeng's Jinyuhua Mansion. It was closer to their grandson there, making it easier to take care of the child.

After divorcing Yuan Ergeng, his ex-wife Meng Wan bought a smaller villa in Jin Yu Hua Fu, the same neighborhood where she and Yuan Ergeng lived before their divorce, for her and her son Yuan Lang to live in.

"Oh." Gao Yinxi's initial感动 (moved/touched) mood sank a little. She lowered her head and drank her soup. "Let's go to 'Yuan Ji' for dinner in a while. I want to eat Uncle's salted chicken."

"Yuan Ji" is a restaurant that the two elders of the Yuan family have run all their lives. It has many branches in Xianghai City and even throughout Guangdong Province, and is very famous.

Mr. Yuan was getting old and shouldn't have been cooking anymore, but he really loved cooking, so he stayed at the "Yuan Ji" flagship store as the head chef and took on apprentices as well.

A few years ago, Yuan's father handed over the management of "Yuan's Shop" entirely to his only son, Yuan Ergeng.

Yuan Ergeng turned to look at Gao Yinxi and saw that she preferred to visit his parents at Yuanji rather than go home. He couldn't quite describe the feeling in his heart.

He could only gently squeeze her hand and say, "Fasten your seatbelt, let's go home."

Outside the car window, sunlight streamed down the ground, and the autumn wind swirled fallen leaves, gently accompanying the two as they traveled.

...

The monitor emitted a regular "beep" sound, like a countdown to the final moments of life.

Wanling adjusted the position of his mask, his eyes fixed on the patient, a 59-year-old man.

"Your blood pressure is still dropping, 90/50." Zhang Sheng's voice came through the mask, tinged with obvious tension.

Chen Li's hands were as steady as a rock as he carefully separated the blood vessels. "Prepare the artificial blood vessel, quickly."

His voice was calm to the point of being cold.

Wanling quickly handed over the equipment. Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at the clock on the wall. It was 3:27 p.m., four hours had passed since the start, and everyone was exhausted.

Just then, Chen Li's cell phone rang in his pocket.

He gestured for Wanling to take it out. Wanling hesitated for a moment, but eventually took the phone out of his pocket for him. "It's Miss Lin."

Given the current situation, Chen Li shouldn't have answered the phone, but he did, and even distanced himself from everyone.

Wanling, a member of his team, kindly reminded him, fearing it would delay their work, "We're still working!"

Chen Li didn't even look at her. He took out his phone and went to a corner to make a call. The other person was clearly not an ordinary person; his voice was gentler than ever before.

"You've been talking about private matters for so long." Wan Ling looked at the displeased expressions on the other people's faces and became very anxious.

But Chen Li went even further; after finishing his phone call, he started taking off his clothes, preparing to leave halfway through.

Before leaving, he said, "Call me if you can't handle it."

His figure quickly disappeared behind the automatic door.

His attitude caused an uproar at the scene.

The next two hours were like a nightmare, but thankfully, the most dangerous part was over.

The next day, Wanling stood in her office, staring incredulously at her boss sitting opposite her. "Why?"

She asked incredulously, "I didn't do anything wrong, why should I be punished?"

The boss said coldly, "Don't you know what you've done?"

What did I do?

Why are you meddling in things that aren't within your job responsibilities?

"Ha!" Wan Ling almost laughed in anger. "What do I care about?"

Her boss knew she had suffered an undeserved misfortune, but what did it have to do with him?

"You have to accept the department's arrangements, whether you like it or not."

"Is there no place to seek justice?" Wan Ling's eyes instantly turned red, but she still stubbornly raised her head. "Why should I be punished when I did nothing wrong, while Chen Li can continue to do whatever he wants even though he was wrong?"

Her boss looked at her calmly and said, "You're still young, there are many things you don't understand yet, but you'll understand them slowly."

It's too late to say anything now...

Wanling wiped away her tears, opened the door, and ran out.

If people like Chen Li can escape responsibility, what about those who have been harmed?

Is there really no place, no one who can take care of them?

She was unconvinced and didn't believe it.

Unbeknownst to Wanling, just before the message was deleted, someone had already taken a screenshot and sent it to an unexpected person via an anonymous email address: Chen Li's wife, Li Chi'an.

...

The day after obtaining the evidence, Li Chi'an managed to arrange a meeting with Wan Ling.

The coffee shop door opened, and Li Chi'an looked up to see a round-faced stranger standing at the door for a moment before walking towards him.

"Mrs. Chen?" The round-faced girl stopped in front of Li Chi'an.

"Hello Wanling, I'm Li Chi'an." Li Chi'an gently gestured for the girl to sit down. "What would you like to drink, coffee or tea?"

"Either is fine." The girl had a round face and round eyes, yet she possessed an air of righteousness and freedom. "Your name is so nice, I'll call you Chi'an."

“Okay.” Li Chi’an recommended with a smile, “If you’re looking for coffee, their apple cinnamon latte is pretty good.”

"Then let's have an apple cinnamon latte."

Li Chian ordered coffee for them, and after asking for their opinion, he also ordered a dessert.

“Someone told me what happened over there and gave me some information…” Li Chi’an quickly got straight to the point.

After listening to her, Wanling handed her a USB drive. "This is complete evidence, including audio and video recordings. They suspended me today, and I'm afraid it will be difficult for me to get a similar job in Xianghai City in the future."

Despite Wan Ling's best efforts to control her emotions and appear indifferent to the punishment, Li Chi'an could still see her deep resentment.

“You are really brave.” Li Chi’an looked at Wan Ling with a gentle smile. “And I want you to know that the reason I invited you here is not only because I have the same enemy as you, but also because I have made thorough preparations.”

Wanling's heart gradually calmed down under Li Chi'an's gentle yet firm words. He then added many details about the scene to her, "Some details are hard to say in the group chat, the specific situation is..."

Once you open your heart, everything becomes much simpler.

Li Chi'an took the USB drive from Wan Ling and said, "Thank you for your trust. I will definitely make them pay the price."

Despite these setbacks, Wan Ling wasn't as confident as Li Chi'an. "You're not divorced yet. Exposing him is exposing yourself."

Li Chi'an smiled calmly, "Don't worry, I considered all of this when I decided to do this."

Wan Ling lowered his voice, "The Lin family is truly capable..."

“I know.” Li Chi’an gently grasped the girl’s uneasy hand, offering silent support.

Wanling is a girl with her own opinions, ideas, and honesty. It's a pleasant and comfortable conversation with her.

Having met with Wan Ling in person, Li Chi'an felt more confident about advancing his goal.

But Chen Li and Lin Ying obviously didn't know that.

They were enjoying the sense of superiority that the Lin family brought them.

...

In Lin Ying's upscale apartment, Chen Li was gently massaging her legs. "Wan Ling will be fired soon."

Lin Ying sneered, "What is she? Just a low-level employee. She's completely ignorant of her place."

"You're really capable, baby." Chen Li said smugly. "I benefited from your help this time."

"Good to know." Lin Ying raised her fair finger and tapped Chen Li's straight nose, enjoying his tenderness and admiration. "A little lighter."

Chen Li loosened his grip, and Lin Ying felt more comfortable being served by him. Her eyes began to wander with other thoughts, but when she looked down at her growing belly, she couldn't help but feel annoyed. "Being pregnant is so uncomfortable."

Chen Li could tell what she was thinking just by looking at her expression, so he leaned down and kissed her lips. "Baby, I want to too..."

The low, panting sounds were pure torture for Lin Ying, who had been eating vegetarian food for months. Not to mention that every press from Chen Li felt like a small flame, burning from the point of contact and quickly spreading throughout her body.

This caused another uncomfortable feeling to rise in her body.

Over the past few months, Chen Li has actually taken good care of her, always finding ways to meet her needs.

He gently wiped her back with a warm, damp towel; he used massage oil to relieve her muscle soreness; he even learned professional techniques to give her a head massage. Every touch was careful, giving her the intimacy she needed without harming the baby in her womb.

All of this made her more tolerant of the discomforts of pregnancy.

But in the end, it's all just wishful thinking.

Under Chen Li's kisses, Lin Ying quickly became breathless, her eyes glazed over, and her whole body went limp like a puddle of water.

Chen Li's eyes darkened, and he continued to massage her thighs.

"Are you feeling better?" Chen Mo's voice was a little hoarse.

When his fingertips accidentally brushed against the sensitive skin on the inside of his body, Lin Ying suddenly grabbed his wrist.

The two gazed at each other silently under the atmospheric lighting.

Chen Li smiled and said, "I looked up some information about...our situation."
