Chapter 12 Feeling Powerless

Su Yulan was vomiting, tears and snot streaming down her face.

Looking up, I saw Jiang Qingwan sitting languidly in the carriage.

The sunlight seemed to favor her, making her appear to radiate a holy beauty.

Compared to her current state, it's like heaven and earth.

Her eyes were burning with jealousy.

Shouldn't this bitch be crying her eyes out and looking haggard?

She caught a glimpse of the clothes Jiang Qingwan was wearing.

Jiangnan brocade, just one outer garment costs nearly a hundred taels.

That's all Qin Minglang's money!

Damn bastard!

She held onto Chunmei's hand, forcefully suppressing the churning in her stomach, her eyes fixed on Jiang Qingwan.

"I didn't kill you yesterday, yet you dare to show your face before me today! Chunmei, pull her down!"

Chunmei rolled up her sleeves and rushed over.

Upon seeing this, the driver gripped the reins tightly in fright. "Miss, are you trying to run away?"

Jiang Qingwan waved her little hand.

"Need not!"

Just as Chunmei's hand was about to grab her front, and with a little force she could drag her to the ground.

But at that moment, Chunmei seemed to be frozen in place, unable to move her limbs.

Beneath her feet, an invisible Bagua formation was slowly unfolding, trapping her firmly within it.

"What...what did you do to me?"

Chunmei was terrified.

Jiang Qingwan got out of the car carrying two wine jars.

The woman's hair had come down, and her smooth, long hair flowed in the wind, with half of it held behind her ear by a beautifully carved jade hairpin, giving her a languid and refreshing look.

She walked past Chunmei, past the weak and unsteady Su Yulan who was vomiting, past Qin Minglang who was trying his best to maintain his imposing image, and walked towards the two wooden barrels that were still baring their teeth and claws.

The second senior brother is most skilled in ingenious manufacturing, and his fame spreads throughout the world.

Back when she lived in the mountains, because she couldn't practice martial arts, her three senior brothers always wanted her to learn something other than magic to protect herself.

She had dismantled countless mechanical puppets, and although she wasn't an expert, she could spot the mechanism of these two wooden barrels at a glance.

She knocked on the door without much effort, bypassing the doll.

The wooden door opened almost immediately, and a little boy looked at her, then at the two motionless wooden barrels outside.

He didn't say anything but made a gesture of invitation.

Seeing that they could go inside, Qin Minglang immediately turned around to greet Su Yulan.

"Lan'er, come here quickly, let's go inside together."

Su Yulan's face turned green with anger.

"Why didn't the barrel attack her? Why are you going in with her? I'm your wife now!"

As she spoke, she glared at Jiang Qingwan, having long since lost her composure and rationality.

"You really have some tricks up your sleeve. You seduced Liu Ruzhi, and now you can come and go as you please at Luo Jiu's gate. I've heard that Luo Jiu is already over fifty, and you really don't discriminate against anyone! You're even worse than a prostitute!"

The little boy inside the door stomped his feet playfully.

"You're spouting nonsense, get out!"

He then slapped the two wooden barrels a few times, and the barrels quickly returned to their original state.

The child still seemed dissatisfied.

They then opened the top of the wooden bucket and poured in a packet of medicine powder from each of them.

"If you dare to break in again, I'll poison you all."

Su Yulan pointed at Jiang Qingwan and angrily rebuked her.

"You let a lowly divorced woman into your home, yet you keep this county princess out. Do you even know that I am a member of the Su family!"

The child, however, did not give him any face at all.

"I don't care who you are. Master said that if you can get through the wooden barrel formation, you can knock on the door and see him. If you're so capable, go ahead and try. If you break Master's barrels, even if you get in, it'll be useless!"

Qin Minglang simply didn't believe Jiang Qingwan had the ability to break the formation; he was convinced she had gotten the advantage because he had just defeated two puppets. He immediately began to argue.

"It was I who broke the formation, not her."

Jiang Qingwan turned to look at him, "If that's the case, then break it again."

After saying that, he stepped through the door and entered.

The child slammed the door shut after she came in.

The moment the door closed, the barrel was started up again.

Su Yulan could not bear being overshadowed by Jiang Qingwan.

"What are you standing there for? Go break the formation!"

Qin Minglang had no choice but to bite the bullet and try again.

He spent five years at the border.

Although he didn't fight on the battlefield every day, he still had a few heroic moments.

But for some reason, ever since he returned to Beijing, he has felt powerless.

He felt it when he fought that lackey named Li Dou last time; he clearly had many moves in his head, but he couldn't execute them.

He instinctively reached for his waist.

But he couldn't touch the familiar piece of red jade, and his heart grew increasingly uneasy.

Chunmei, who had recovered, returned to Su Yulan's side with a look of horror on her face.

"Miss, don't you think Jiang Qingwan has a slightly eerie quality?"

Su Yulan was in a bad mood and glared at her when she heard this.

"What were you standing there for? Don't tell me she put a spell on you that immobilizes you!"

When they were in their fiefdoms, they often invited people to perform plays at their residences.

I've heard a lot of these fancy things, but I've never believed them.

Chunmei quickly explained.

"Miss, I can't move. It feels like a ghost is grabbing my arm."

Su Yulan felt a little uneasy after hearing what she said.

Suddenly remembering the nightmare from last night, her face paled even more.

At this moment, Qin Minglang ran back, panting heavily.

"Lan'er, why don't you think of another way, I..."

Su Yulan was furious.

"Aren't you a second-rank general? You can't even handle two wooden barrels?"

Qin Minglang felt uneasy.

"The boy said that the doll must not be damaged, so I'm just being hesitant to do anything about it."

"Why don't we wait for Jiang Qingwan to come out? She must have come here for me. Let her go and sound out the situation first. If she can't persuade Luo Jiu, we'll think of another way."
