The Empress Dowager was taken aback; there wasn't a single palace servant attending to her in the hall.
She looked up and glanced outside the hall.
Through the tightly closed palace doors, the moonlight could be faintly seen.
"Why has the Emperor come at this hour?"
Mo Yunzhao remained silent for a long time with a somber expression.
Suddenly he said, "I want a coup."
The Empress Dowager was greatly surprised.
"You've gone mad! Emperors have never been allowed to kill their fathers. How can you bear such a stigma?"
Mo Yunzhao sneered.
"I cannot kill my father, yet my father is constantly trying to kill me. Do you know that tonight, three of my personal guards were beheaded by his men and their heads were thrown in front of my bed? He is telling me that if I disobey in the slightest, he can slit my throat at any time! How can I sleep peacefully, how can I govern the country, how can I be the emperor of this Great Zhou!"
He was so angry his chest felt like it was going to explode.
The Empress Dowager, however, sensed something amiss.
"What did you send your personal guards to do?"
Mo Yunzhao didn't intend to hide it.
"Go and assassinate Jiang Qingwan."
The Empress Dowager was displeased.
"Why make such a fuss over a woman? If she could cause any trouble, why would she have been bullied and driven away by the Qin family?"
Mo Yunzhao's anger subsided slightly.
"The Emperor Emeritus ordered her to accompany him to Xuanling Mountain. Inside the imperial mausoleum, she personally told Yan Yunqing that she could repair the Nine Dragons Formation. How can such a person remain by the Ninth Prince's side?"
The Empress Dowager, however, did not believe it at all.
"It's just a trick to fool the Emperor Emeritus. If she really had that ability, would she have been completely helpless when you lashed the Ninth Prince thirty times that day? Besides, aren't the Qin family members still alive and well?"
Seeing the coldness on Mo Yunzhao's face dissipate, she said gently, "You should not take any further action on this matter. She is just a woman; your mother will handle it herself."
