Chapter 191: Taking credit

The explosions that rang out again at the city gate made Qin Minglang even more certain that Mo Yunhan was doomed to lose this battle.

He opened the back window and listened intently to the sounds outside.

The air was thick with the stench of blood, while the sounds of fighting at the city gate grew fainter and fainter.

Lanterns were already lit up on the street, as if welcoming the true masters of this village.

A cold smile crept into his eyes.

"This is the moment we've been waiting for."

As he spoke, he drew a signal flare from his waist and shot it into the sky.

He then quickly donned his armor, picked up his spear, and strode out with great flair.

Jiang Qingwan stood in the courtyard, watching the fireworks soar into the sky, her eyes narrowing slightly.

Lian'er asked, "Miss, what is that?"

Before Jiang Qingwan could speak, Qin Minglang interrupted her.

"That's your lifeline."

As he spoke, his gaze swept over Jiang Qingwan, but this time he didn't ask her choice. He just gave a cold snort, and with a kind of indomitable spirit, he pulled the reins of the warhorse tied in the yard, mounted it, spurred it, and charged out.

Lian'er looked completely bewildered.

"Miss, isn't the fight over? What is he going to do?"

Jiang Qingwan yawned leisurely.

"Go ahead and do something stupid. I'm sleepy, go back to your room and sleep."

At this moment, the battlefield had already been swept through the city gates. The fireballs were extremely powerful, and most of the rebels were killed or wounded, leaving only a dozen or so people covered in dust and being held captive in a corner.

Luo Jiu was instructing people to collect the scattered hidden weapons and carefully check for any remaining gunpowder.

Everyone was doing their job when they suddenly heard the sound of horses' hooves and all looked up.

Warhorses galloped wildly through the streets, their resounding roars awe-inspiring wherever they went.

"You have colluded with traitors, and your crimes are unforgivable. Anyone who dares to obstruct this general will be cut down by him."

The villagers were so frightened that they all retreated, not knowing what had happened.

Qin Minglang galloped all the way to the city gate, his heart pounding with excitement, but when he saw Mo Yunhan and the others standing there unharmed, he was so shocked that he almost fell off his horse.

Wang Hao carried a large sword, his face still covered in blood, and smiled coldly.

"Isn't General Qin seriously ill and unable to fight? I see that he rides the horse quite well."

The other deputy general chuckled twice.

"Not only is he a good rider, but the way he shouted all the way here was really powerful."

The soldiers, who had just experienced life and death, looked at them with disdain.

Although Mo Yunhan had not been on the battlefield for a long time, his courage and ability to protect a hundred people had already impressed everyone.

In contrast, Qin Minglang, as a general appointed by the emperor, feigned illness to evade responsibility, and then tried to steal credit after the matter was over, which was truly despicable.

Mo Yunhan looked at him coldly and spoke in a cool tone.

"What does General Qin mean?"

Wang Hao is the one who can't hold back his words.

"Your Highness, what else could it be? They're here to steal credit, of course. They'll go back and say with a straight face that they repelled the thieves. How shameless!"

Qin Minglang's intentions were exposed on the spot, and his face turned red. He tried to remain calm and explained, "I just wanted to lend you all a hand, and I didn't mean to take credit for anything."

He had barely finished speaking.

Then they heard rustling footsteps not far away, accompanied by deliberately lowered voices.

"It seems General Qin has the situation under control. Let's quickly rendezvous with him. Today's great achievement will be ours, brothers! Charge!"

Suddenly, the sounds of fighting were deafening. Dozens of people dressed in black rushed over, all carrying crossbows.

Just as they were about to shoot, they realized something was wrong.

There was no way to back down now. The people behind kept bumping into those who had stopped in front, making them stagger and expose them to everyone's eyes.

Wang Hao didn't react in time.

Thinking there were more traitors, he grabbed his knife and was about to charge.

The other deputy general, however, reacted extremely quickly.

"Qin Minglang, you're really cunning. We're fighting to the death here, and you've actually been hiding troops?"

Another lieutenant shouted angrily.

"Surround them, and don't let a single one escape."

Seeing that the situation was not good, the dozens of people immediately turned around and tried to scatter like birds and beasts.

Mo Yunhan spoke coldly.

"As long as you are in the military, none of you will escape!"

Those people paused for a moment, then quickened their pace.

"Whoosh!"

Mo Yunhan raised his hand, and a long sword flew out, killing one of the people involved.

"If you dare to escape again, kill us on sight!"

Now no one dared to run anymore.

Qin Minglang was extremely anxious and immediately dismounted to stop Mo Yunhan from interrogating him.

“Your Highness, they are my former subordinates. It is not that I am hiding a way out for myself. I just want to have an extra layer of protection in case of any unexpected events. I hope Your Highness will not make things difficult for them since they have come to help.”

Wang Hao spat.

"Do you think I'm deaf? They were just shouting that they were here to steal the credit."

Ye Qi echoed.

"Putting aside their purpose for coming, so many people couldn't have come all the way from the capital. Yet they suddenly appeared outside Qingfeng Village. Your Highness, isn't this considered unauthorized troop deployment?"

Qin Minglang broke out in a cold sweat.

“Such a serious crime cannot be arrested so easily. They…they are not soldiers, but my former subordinates. After I returned to the capital, they contacted me, wanting to join me. However, my appointment was blocked at every turn, and I have not been able to settle down. Now that I have been ordered to come and eliminate the traitors, I know that this is a rare opportunity, so I notified them to gather here. It is by no means a private mobilization of troops. I hope Your Highness will understand.”

He spoke with such sincerity and righteousness, as if he were devoted to his old troops and remnants.

The group of people quickly agreed.
