Just as Jiang Qingwan's carriage arrived at the Prince's residence, Song Yushu arrived.
She had clearly heard about what happened at the city gate.
"Is what happened to Qin Minglang true?"
Jiang Qingwan nodded. "Has anything unusual happened in the manor these past few days?"
Song Yushu followed her to the backyard.
"No, everything is fine at Fengyazhu. Yun Xiaoran did come over to ask a few times, but I dismissed her each time. She doesn't know you went to Qingfeng Village."
Jiang Qingwan had just passed the stone pavilion when she suddenly stopped.
At this moment, Little Red, who was in Lian'er's arms, also jumped down alertly and sniffed around.
Qingsui had already flown up to the roof to take a look.
The sudden tension startled Song Yushu.
"What's wrong?"
Jiang Qingwan raised her hand and gently rubbed the wind between her fingertips.
The fragrance of flowers is warm, and so is the warmth of the sunshine.
Yet, there was a faint chill in the wind.
Has anyone been in the backyard?
Song Yushu shook his head.
“I specifically instructed the guards not to allow anyone to trespass.”
At that moment, Qing Sui landed back beside her.
"Your Highness, there is no one here."
Xiao Hong, however, started digging in one spot.
It moved incredibly fast, and in no time it had pulled out a yellow talisman. It opened its mouth as if to eat it, but when it got close, it spat it out in disgust and shoved it aside with its paws.
Lian'er went over to pick it up, but Jiang Qingwan stopped her.
Don't touch it.
As she spoke, she stepped forward and bent down to look at the talisman, which was surrounded by a layer of blood-red light.
"Witchcraft and sorcery?"
There is a side branch in the Xuanmen Taoist arts.
It combines Western Region witchcraft and sorcery, similar to evil cultivators, but its methods are even more vicious.
Song Yushu had obviously heard of it before, and his expression changed drastically upon hearing this.
"Is it a sorcerer? Who wants to harm you?"
Jiang Qingwan condensed a wisp of spiritual energy and enveloped the talisman paper, then had Lian'er bury it again.
Lian'er was puzzled.
"Miss, this thing is harmful. Why bury it back? Why not burn it?"
“If you burn it, that person will know.”
Jiang Qingwan glanced around indifferently.
As the talisman was reburied, the lingering yin energy around it diminished considerably.
The enemy is in the shadows; it's not time to alert them yet.
Song Yushu was not at ease.
"Qingwan, you should move to the front yard. There are more people in the mansion, making it harder to take action and it's safer there."
Jiang Qingwan did not refuse this time.
"Then I'll trouble you, Madam, to tidy up the courtyard for me."
Song Yushu joked with a smile.
"Since you and Yunhan have been betrothed, you will naturally live in the main hall. I prepared a lot of wedding items a few days ago, which will be just right. I will have them laid out now, and you can move in tonight."
She turned and left happily.
Jiang Qingwan was still lost in thought when, by the time she came to her senses, she was nowhere to be seen.
Currently, all her cultivation is in Mo Yunhan's possession, so living with him is the best option.
But that person...
She thought of the debauchery she had experienced in her mind's sea of consciousness, and her face flushed slightly.
Lian'er buried the talisman and finally found a chance to talk to Jiang Qingwan alone.
"Miss, Li Dou... something's not right."
Jiang Qingwan was stunned for a moment.
Looking back at Li Dou, who was silently packing his things in the corner, I didn't see any evil aura about him.
"What's wrong with him? Hasn't he recovered yet?"
Lian'er didn't know how to describe it, and she was so anxious that she scratched her head and cheeks.
"Miss, I can't explain it clearly, but his eyes, his eyes are very frightening."
Jiang Qingwan glanced at Li Dou again.
I am absolutely certain that he has not been tainted by anything bad.
Just then, Li Dou looked up.
Jiang Qingwan's gaze, which she hadn't yet withdrawn, met his, and she immediately felt a chill.
That person... wasn't Li Dou.
Or rather, it's not the Li Dou of the past.
Seeing that she didn't speak, Lian'er became even more anxious.
"Miss, is he possessed by a ghost? Ever since he fell into the river that day, I've felt he's eerie. Could it be a water ghost looking for a substitute? And Li Dou... is Li Dou still in that river?"
She became increasingly alarmed as she spoke, her voice trembling.
Jiang Qingwan ignored her and called out, "Li Dou, come here."
Li Dou obeyed and stood a step away with his head down.
"Miss."
"Raise your head!"
Jiang Qingwan gazed at him calmly. Even as they drew closer, she didn't sense anything amiss, but there was something very wrong with his eyes.
"Did something come to mind?"
Since it wasn't a case of possession, then regaining consciousness is the only reasonable explanation.
A hint of hesitation flashed in Li Dou's eyes, and he pursed his lips without speaking.
Jiang Qingwan already understood.
“I picked you up, there’s no contract of servitude, you can leave anytime.”
Upon hearing this, Lian'er immediately panicked and knelt down on the ground with a thud.
"Miss, you can't abandon him! Please don't send him away."
Jiang Qingwan sighed.
“Lian’er, I didn’t chase him away. I just gave him a choice. Everyone has the right to choose their own path, and so do you. If you have a reason to leave someday, I won’t stop you.”
Lian'er only half understood what Li Dou was saying, and looked up at him.
Li Dou still kept his eyes downcast, his face expressionless, but his hands, hanging at his sides, were clenched tightly.
Lian'er, unaware of what he was thinking, anxiously tugged at his arm.
“Say something! Miss treats you so well, why can’t you tell her if you have any difficulties?”
Li Dou remained frozen, still silent.
Seeing his reaction, Jiang Qingwan didn't press him further.
