The old woman screamed for help.
Su Weichuan heard everything clearly inside the room, but his face remained completely expressionless.
He propped himself up on the bed frame.
The old servant immediately got up and stepped forward.
"Master, would you like to go take a look?"
"I'm not going!"
Su Weichuan pushed his arm away and slowly walked towards the study.
"Your injury hasn't healed yet..."
The old servant anxiously reached out his hands from behind but dared not go to help.
Su Weichuan entered the study and slammed the door shut on the old servant.
They opened the secret room and went down floor by floor.
The icy jade made the air feel like the dead of winter.
Su Weichuan, however, seemed not to feel the cold at all.
He staggered down to the bottom level, where an ice coffin sat on the empty, cold, jade-like surface.
Inside the ice coffin lay a person dressed in a red brocade gown, with a phoenix dancing in the sky embroidered on the chest.
She wore a jade crown and her face was covered by a red veil with dragon and phoenix motifs.
Her stunning beauty is still faintly visible.
Su Weichuan walked forward in a daze, his hands trembling as he touched the ice coffin.
“Susu…”
She called out in a hoarse voice, tears streaming down her face.
It smashed onto the ice coffin.
He frantically tugged at his sleeve, wiping himself repeatedly. Gone was the imposing and stern demeanor of the dignified Prince Su; he resembled an ordinary man who had lost his beloved.
He hunched over and spoke in a low voice.
"I'm sorry for letting you lie in such a cold place for so many years. It's all my fault. When you come out, you can whip me hard, and I won't flinch again."
"The Heart of the Sea Dragon is gone, but don't worry, I have other ways. Even if the entire Great Zhou is devastated, I will definitely revive you."
"Don't feel any burden. This is all owed to you by the Great Zhou. They are the ones who owe you this."
He stroked the ice coffin with a fascination.
His gaze fell on the woman's hands, which were clasped together and placed on her chest and abdomen.
Between the pale fingers, a broken jade ring was visible.
A look of grief flashed in his eyes.
His finger rested on the jade ring.
He remained silent for a long time, then murmured to himself.
"Susu, if our daughter were still alive, she should be married by now, right?"
...
Inside Tingtao Xiaozhu (Listening to the Waves Cottage).
The servant boy trotted into the hall.
He said breathlessly, "Young Master, we've found out everything."
Zheng Chengye put down the book in his hand with great anxiety.
"Tell me quickly."
The servant breathed a sigh of relief.
"The master went to have dinner with the madam, but was scolded by her, and the two parted on bad terms."
Zheng Chengye's expression immediately changed.
"Although my mother has an impatient personality, she has always had a good relationship with my father. How come they can still argue even at mealtimes after so long? It seems that this time, my mother will not be so easy to accept that Miss Luo."
"Where did my father go? To Miss Luo's courtyard?"
The servant shook his head.
"No, Master went to his study alone. I heard him sighing the whole time, and he seemed very anxious."
Zheng Chengye slammed his hand on the table.
“Father is always busy with political affairs and never cares about matters within the household, so he must be troubled by this. It seems that the crux of the matter lies with that Miss Luo. If she can lower herself and be willing to become a concubine, and humble herself to coax Mother, Mother is kind-hearted and will surely accept her. Come, follow me to Miss Luo’s courtyard.”
The servant glanced at the ever-burning sandalwood incense and was secretly delighted.
"yes."
The two left Tingtao Xiaozhu and hadn't walked far when they ran into Granny Li.
Granny Li immediately paid her respects.
"Young Master, where are you going so late?"
Granny Li was an old woman in the county princess's mansion.
Zheng Chengye had seen this often in his childhood, and unconsciously let his guard down.
“I went to Miss Luo’s courtyard and advised her not to fight for the title of principal wife and upset my mother. If she could voluntarily become a concubine, my mother would definitely not make things difficult for her anymore.”
Granny Li nodded.
"Young Master's affection for Madam is truly admirable. However, this matter is neither up to Miss Luo nor Madam."
Zheng Chengye was stunned.
"What do you mean by that, Granny?"
Granny Li looked around mysteriously, and only after confirming that no one was around did she speak.
"Young master, you may not know, but the one who is in charge of the manor now is the princess. After that Miss Luo entered the manor, she had a falling out with the princess and displeased her. You are too honest to see this, and you still want to take her as a concubine out of gratitude, so naturally the princess is not happy."
"Madam treats the Prince like her own son and listens to the Princess Consort's every word. Naturally, she cannot tolerate this Miss Luo. Therefore, the key to resolving this matter lies with the Princess Consort. If the Princess Consort were to say a word of agreement to Madam, given Madam's trust in the Princess Consort, how could this cause such turmoil in the household?"
Zheng Chengye immediately realized that this made sense.
Although my mother had a bad temper, she was not an unreasonable person.
Miss Luo saved my father's life, so since he brought her back to the manor, he must have made some promise.
Given my mother's character, she would never be like this now.
It must be because of Jiang Qingwan.
The mother treated this woman's words as gospel.
Thinking of Jiang Qingwan, he somewhat disagreed with Li Mama's conjecture.
"Given my cousin's personality, she probably wasn't deliberately making things difficult. Otherwise, Miss Luo wouldn't still be staying in the manor. I suppose it's because she was bullied by the Qin family before and is worried that her father might also betray her mother like that scoundrel Qin Minglang."
"However, this matter is different from the Qin family's. My father has received a great favor from someone, how can he not repay it? I will explain it to her properly."
He nodded slightly to Granny Li and took his leave.
He strode towards the main hall.
Granny Li was somewhat taken aback by Zheng Chengye's attitude.
Didn't he always dislike Jiang Qingwan?
