The shopkeeper was overjoyed upon hearing this.
"What you say is true."
Su Yulan looked disdainful.
"With so many people watching, do you think I, the county magistrate, would shortchange you?"
The shopkeeper finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He immediately took out twenty taels of silver from the money box and handed it to Lian'er.
"Miss Lian'er, this is the deposit. Please take it back."
Lian'er's chest heaved with anger.
"How could you do this, shopkeeper? How could you go back on your word? I'm not taking this deposit back."
Su Yulan looked at him with disdain.
"They look like a poor family, aren't they just trying to extort more money? Shopkeeper, give her ten times the amount back, and I, the county magistrate, will reward her with this money."
She deliberately put Jiang Qingwan in a superior position, and felt a sense of satisfaction watching everyone point fingers at Jiang Qingwan.
She has now returned to the Cheng family. With the money Cheng Nan gave her, plus her salary as a county princess, she is now extremely well-off.
I don't feel bad about spending more money.
Jiang Qingwan said calmly, "Shopkeeper, let's put the deposit aside for now. Since we've both taken a liking to this cloth, the highest bidder wins, and the lowest bidder has no one to blame but themselves."
The shopkeeper was overjoyed.
He deliberately looked at Su Yulan with feigned difficulty.
"What are your thoughts, Madam?"
Before Su Yulan could speak, Jiang Qingwan slapped her small hand onto the fabric.
"I'll offer one tael of gold and one bolt of cloth."
This gold is worth a hundred taels of silver.
This price isn't too high.
Not to be outdone, Su Yulan directly held up five fingers.
"Five taels of gold!"
Everyone gasped in surprise.
Even if this moon-shadowed gauze is expensive, it can't be more than five taels of gold.
The shopkeeper was secretly overjoyed.
Lian'er felt it wasn't worth it.
He whispered a reminder, "Miss, this is the fabric we ordered. Why should we compete with her?"
Jiang Qingwan waved her hand.
Seemingly a little tipsy, he said, "I'll offer ten taels of gold."
Su Yulan's expression was rather unpleasant.
Chunmei reminded her in a low voice.
"Princess, why don't we just give up on it and let that bitch Jiang Qingwan waste all this gold? Let's just make her furious."
Just as Su Yulan was about to nod, Jiang Qingwan suddenly said in a low voice, "The prince's foster mother, a county princess of the current dynasty, could it be that she's just trying to put on a show by bidding here because she can't afford the gold?"
Everyone turned to look.
Su Yulan couldn't possibly let go of her pride.
He counted the money in his pocket and shouted, "Fifteen gold coins!"
Fifteen taels of gold for a bolt of cloth?
That's an astronomical price.
Jiang Qingwan covered her mouth in astonishment.
“Princess Su is truly wealthy and generous. I will not argue with you about this bolt of cloth.”
Su Yulan chuckled.
He seemed to have finally overpowered Jiang Qingwan and was quite pleased with himself.
"Jiang Qingwan, you've finally met your match."
Jiang Qingwan ignored her attitude and said to the shopkeeper, "Hurry up and bring out the cloth so that Princess Su can pay the gold. I'm afraid she'll just want to save face and then change her mind after we leave."
The shopkeeper, who was basking in the joy of making a fortune, realized that this made sense.
I was just about to go to the back to move all the goods over.
Su Yulan sneered and dumped the silver notes and money pouch on the table.
“This county princess is of noble birth, would I be short of a little money? This is enough to exchange for fifteen gold pieces.”
The shopkeeper looked troubled after inspecting the goods.
“Madam, what you have is indeed enough to exchange for fifteen taels of gold, but fifteen taels of gold is a bolt of cloth, and my shop has ten bolts of Moon Shadow Gauze. Do you still want…”
"What? Ten horses?"
Su Yulan was instantly at a loss.
One horse costs fifteen gold coins, so these ten horses will cost one hundred and fifty gold coins.
She doesn't have that much money.
He immediately pointed at the shopkeeper's nose and cursed back.
"Are you and she teaming up to extort money from me? Believe me or not, I'll smash up your shop!"
The shopkeeper looked completely innocent.
“Madam, you can’t say that. This batch of Moon Shadow Gauze was originally ordered by this noble lady. You insisted on taking it, and you also promised to buy all the Moon Shadow Gauze in the store. You even set the price yourself. How can you go back on your word now? If you didn’t have the money, why would you pretend to be so generous?”
The last sentence was spoken in a much lower voice.
But all the onlookers heard it.
"How shameful! They robbed us but couldn't pay up. It was all just empty talk."
"This is a county princess, a prince's foster mother, and she made such a grand entrance, but it turns out she's just an empty bag with nothing inside."
Su Yulan blushed.
But she really couldn't come up with that much money.
But this sense of face is something that absolutely cannot be lost.
He immediately snatched the moon-shadow gauze from the table and stuffed it into Chunmei's hands.
"Who says I can't afford it? I, the county magistrate, will not be swayed or manipulated by you. I've bought this Moon Shadow Silk, and you've accepted the fifteen gold pieces. As for the rest, you didn't bring them out beforehand, so how would I know you had more? Don't try to pin this debt on me."
After speaking, he glanced at Jiang Qingwan again.
"Since you like Moon Shadow Silk so much, the shopkeeper has nine more bolts. I won't fight you for them. If you're so capable, buy them all!"
Fifteen taels of gold for a bolt of silk—that'll rip this bastard off!
The shopkeeper dared not keep such expensive fabric for fear of being stuck with it, so he immediately said, "Honorable sir, Miss Lian'er, why don't you just take it? This fabric is expensive, and it's even more difficult to store. If you hadn't paid a deposit and said you wanted it, I certainly wouldn't have been able to buy so much."
Lian'er was furious.
"Shopkeeper, you deserve this! These things are clearly ours, yet you insisted on making such a scene. Now you're begging us? Have you no shame?"
For the shopkeeper, money is everything; he doesn't care about saving face.
He immediately smiled and bowed repeatedly.
"Please forgive my rudeness, I apologize to you here."
