It takes more than an hour for a horse-drawn carriage to travel from Chang'an District to Majia Village in the eastern suburbs.
Jiang Qingwan had just taken a nap.
When they were almost there, Lian'er woke her up.
"Miss, the driver refuses to go any further, fearing he might catch a disease."
Jiang Qingwan stretched her limbs slightly, then bent down and stepped out of the carriage.
The air smelled of mud from the riverbank.
The driver was still struggling with Li Dou.
“Many people in the village are sick because they drank the water from this Dadong River. You still dare to come and catch fish? No way, no matter how much money you offer, it won’t work.”
“We’ve eaten it, and we won’t get sick at all.”
Li Dou was the dumbest, and he was so anxious that his face turned red.
Jiang Qingwan stopped him and had Lian'er give him the money.
"Please wait here, uncle. We need to go back to the city soon."
The coachman thought for a moment and agreed, then led the carriage to the side and tied up the horses.
Jiang Qingwan looked towards the riverbank, which was still some distance away.
"Lian'er, Li Dou, extend your left hands."
The two of them quickly did as instructed.
Jiang Qingwan drew an exorcism talisman on each of their palms.
She has cultivation to protect her, so even the plague cannot harm her.
With the exorcism talisman, Lian'er and Li Dou can be kept safe.
"Let's go take a look."
Li Dou ran happily towards the riverbank, like a child having a great time.
Lian'er found it both funny and infuriating.
“Miss, you don’t know, back when we were in the Qin family, Li Dou liked to come here. Once, I made fish soup, and the young master… Qin Run threw a tantrum and refused to drink it. You tasted half a bowl and said it tasted very fresh. When Li Dou heard this, he often went to catch fish. Once he almost fell into the river.”
Hearing her say these things, Jiang Qingwan felt a warmth in her heart, and the corners of her mouth couldn't help but turn up.
At this moment, Li Dou had already taken off his shoes and entered the water, raising his hand at them.
The two of them quickened their pace.
There are many pebbles near the riverbank, which are very smooth due to long-term trampling.
The Dadong River is very large and flows through several villages, but only Majia Village relies on fishing for a living.
To make it easier for fishing boats to dock, the village chief also led people to build several wooden docks.
They got off the bus not far from one of the docks, where several wooden boats were moored, but there was no one there, making it seem strangely deserted.
"Fish, there are fish."
Li Dou suddenly shouted, and Jiang Qingwan immediately looked over. She saw a plump fish escape from Li Dou's hand, splashing water all over his face.
Lian'er burst into laughter.
"You're so stupid, go and catch it!"
Jiang Qingwan found a stable rock to stand on, lifted her clothes, and put her hand into the water.
A slight chill swept over me, but nothing else.
There is nothing wrong with the river water.
She looked up at Lian'er and asked, "Where did you dig the yellow mud last time?"
Lian'er pointed ahead.
"Over at the dock, there are several large pits dug there, and there's yellow mud a bit further from the riverbank. Would you like to go see, Miss? I'll accompany you."
Seeing that they were having fun, Jiang Qingwan shook her hand and stood up.
"No need, just catch a few more. Make a spicy one tonight; I want spicy grilled fish."
Li Dou patted his chest repeatedly.
"Miss, I'll definitely catch the biggest one."
Jiang Qingwan smiled at him and walked towards the dock. Sure enough, there were several large pits dug by man on the riverbank. The bottom of the pits was yellow mud, and the mud that was dug out must have been used to build the dock.
The remaining large pits, being close to the riverbank, are filled with seeping groundwater, which mixes with yellow mud and becomes very murky.
Jiang Qingwan stretched out her arm to reach into the yellow mud, but before she could reach it, someone grabbed her by the neck and pulled her out.
A faint, cool fragrance wafted over, and when she looked up, she saw Mo Yunhan's unbelievably handsome face.
"Why is it you?"
What are you doing here?
The two people asked the question at the same time.
Jiang Qingwan broke free from her restraints, her small face tensing up.
Where I go is none of your business, and I don't need to explain it to you.
As she spoke, she squatted down again to reach for the yellow mud.
The next moment, a long sword was drawn, and she felt a flash of light before her eyes. The next moment, a small lump of yellow mud was placed in front of her by the tip of the sword.
"I'm not afraid of falling headfirst into it."
The man's tone was disdainful.
Jiang Qingwan glanced at him, but didn't make things difficult for herself. She reached out and tucked some into her palm.
Sure enough, she sensed death again.
The deathly aura in the yellow mud that Li Dou dug back last time was even stronger.
She looked down at the large pit in front of her again.
"You should dig down further, preferably close to the bottom of the pit."
Mo Yunhan held the long sword, moving as lightly as a swallow in flight, easily retrieving the item without getting a speck of mud on it. This time, the yellow mud was still dripping with water.
Jiang Qingwan felt a little envious.
The third senior brother was the best in martial arts. He could easily brush past the pine trees on the mountain, catch birds and take their eggs, and even get the medicinal herbs growing halfway up the mountain.
However, her physical condition was damaged, and she could not practice martial arts.
She glared at the man with displeasure, then picked up some more yellow mud.
As she expected, the yellow mud was even more deathly.
What was found?
Mo Yunhan lowered his head and asked her.
Jiang Qingwan didn't reply to him, but stood up and took a handkerchief to wipe her hands.
Which direction is Majia Village in?
Ye Qi, who was standing to the side, pointed.
Jiang Qingwan looked over there; the problem wasn't with the river, but with the village.
If it is not investigated, the entire river will soon be invaded by the deathly aura seeping from the groundwater. At that time, not only Majia Village, but all the villages along the entire Dadong River will suffer.
But this is troublesome.
Li Dou suddenly shouted in this direction.
"Miss, I've caught him."
Lian'er exclaimed, "Miss, this one is so big!"
