"Mo Yunhan, even if you are the Ninth Prince, you cannot treat the heroes who fought against the bandits like this."
Su Yulan lost control of her emotions and shouted, "Under the emperor's nose, do you really think you can control everything? For the sake of a woman, you have repeatedly suppressed my husband, and now you are humiliating him like this. What exactly do you want to do?"
The scandalous rumors that the Ninth Prince of the court abducted the wife of a second-rank general and took her for himself are nothing new.
At this moment, all the parties involved were present, and a crowd of people gathered around, looking at each other in bewilderment, but none of them dared to utter a sound.
Mo Yunhan rode his falcon, looking down at her from above.
"I have just entered the city and the battle report has not yet been submitted to His Majesty. How do you know that it was I who suppressed him, and not that he committed illegal and disorderly acts?"
Su Yulan said anxiously, "Impossible! My husband is devoted to serving his country. He must have been framed and plotted against by you!"
Mo Yunhan gave a cold, curt smile.
The horse's hooves pounded lightly, and the whip in his hand tapped gently against his palm.
"I have not taken any official roads or passed through any official post stations along the way, and not a single piece of information about the battle has been leaked. Yet you claim that I framed you. Where is your evidence?"
Su Yulan felt a pang of panic.
He pointed to Qin Minglang, who looked utterly disheveled at the back of the group.
"My husband was a second-rank general and the Chief Justice of the Court of Judicial Review when he left, but now he's in this state. If it weren't for you..."
Mo Yunhan interrupted her with a light snort.
"Qin Minglang privately amassed troops and harbored selfish motives on the day of the bandit suppression, intending to reap the benefits like a mantis stalking a cicada. I did not execute him on the spot, which is already giving the Su family face. If you are not satisfied, you may enter the palace to file a complaint."
His voice was clear and resonant.
The surrounding people were all pointing and whispering.
"They actually dared to hoard troops without permission! This is a crime punishable by the extermination of nine generations of their family."
"General Qin hasn't uttered a word, so it seems to be true. Princess Su even came to pick us up in a grand manner. We're doomed now."
...
Su Yulan was completely stunned.
Mo Yunhan would never make such a charge of unauthorized troop stockpiling without evidence.
Combined with Qin Minglang's smug words before his departure, she felt as if she had been struck by lightning.
"Get out of the way!"
A sharp shout startled her, causing her to instinctively step back and stumble, falling to the ground.
Mo Yunhan rode past on his horse, leisurely approaching Jiang Qingwan. He leaned down gently, his eyes deep and affectionate, his voice alluring.
"Go back to the manor and wait for me. I'll come back as soon as I finish my errand."
Having said that, he left without lingering and led his group away.
The streets, which soon became empty, were filled with people looking at each other in bewilderment.
Suddenly someone exclaimed in surprise and doubt.
"So the Ninth Prince and Ninth Princess are so loving, it's truly enviable."
One voice rises, and the others echo it.
Where can anyone still see the splendor of Su Yulan's grand arrival?
Jiang Qingwan, however, deliberately chose to shift the focus away from the scenery.
He smiled faintly at Su Yulan, who was getting up in a disheveled state.
“Princess Su is right. The Prince was very pleased to see me. It’s just a pity that the gongs and firecrackers you prepared could not be used. Let’s take them back to the mansion and set them off later. After all, going from a general to a prisoner is not something worth celebrating with a bang in front of the public.”
Su Yulan's face was contorted with anger.
Just then, Qinghui arrived with the carriage.
Hearing this, she added fuel to the fire, "Your Highness, the sedan chair bearers from the county princess's mansion just warned us in the alley to wait and see how they would embarrass themselves. Unexpectedly, we actually saw it, and it was quite embarrassing."
The sedan chair bearers following closely behind, their faces pale and heads bowed, had completely lost their earlier imposing manner.
Su Yulan glared angrily, "Jiang Qingwan, what are you so smug about? The Emperor hasn't made a decision on this matter yet, and the outcome is still uncertain. If I find out that the Prince framed her, I will definitely..."
"Smack!"
He slapped her hard across the face.
Qing Sui flexed her wrists, her smile chilling and terrifying.
“A mere county princess dares to repeatedly address my princess by her given name; she deserves a beating.”
Su Yulan's face was swollen from the slap, and she covered her face in disbelief, angrily shouting, "You...you dare to hit me?"
Jiang Qingwan looked at her innocently with her beautiful eyes.
"Princess Su, backed by the old Prince Su, is spoiled and arrogant. She dared to lead her soldiers to harass the people, forcibly occupy the road, and intercept the returning army in the street to question them. Such rudeness and disorder are really damaging to the old prince's reputation. If this gets to the palace, how will it be handled? Do you know that the people's hearts are what truly matter, not power?"
After saying this, he sighed softly, seemingly helpless, and, with Qinghui's help, got into the carriage and soon drove away.
The surrounding people were stirred by her last words.
Several people who had just been pushed and injured by Su Yulan's soldiers couldn't contain themselves any longer.
"This is the main street of the city gate. When did it become the official road of the county magistrate's mansion? Relying on their power, they run rampant and seize it. Do they think they are just treating us common people like straw dogs?"
"Old Prince Su once devoted himself to the Great Zhou Dynasty, how could he have raised such a granddaughter? We offer sacrifices and pay taxes to raise this noble county princess, yet she humiliates us like this, it's too much."
"Give us justice! Give us justice!"
The crowd's anger escalated.
Su Yulan gritted her teeth in anger.
“A bunch of lowly bastards, how dare you insult me, the county magistrate? What are you all standing there for? Beat them! If you kill them, it’s my responsibility.”
These words further enraged the people.
The situation was completely out of control. Just as the county magistrate's guards were about to take action, Madam Cheng rushed over.
"Stop! All of you, stop!"
Su Yulan was furious and was unwilling to let things end so embarrassingly.
"Mother, we are just a bunch of lowly people..."
"Smack!"
Cheng slapped her across the face, and Su Yulan's other cheek swelled up as well.
