Chapter 93 Encountering a Snake

Jiang Qingwan was startled by Mo Yunhan's bold words.

Her face instantly turned bright red.

"You...you're insane."

I drank quite a bit last night, and some of my words went too far.

She was a little annoyed when she woke up this morning.

But now that Mo Yunhan had pointed it out to his face, it was truly infuriating.

Mo Yunhan seemed completely unconcerned.

A smile played in his deep, seemingly indifferent eyes.

"It's a fact, so why can't it be said?"

Jiang Qingwan kicked his black boots with gold embroidery, unceremoniously smearing the mud from the soles onto his shoes.

"Ah! A snake! There's a snake!"

The people digging the hole suddenly yelled and scattered in fright.

Suddenly, countless small snakes of various colors swarmed out of the half-person-high pit they had just dug.

They swarmed outwards in dense numbers.

With the withered grass no longer obscuring the ground, the view was both clear and eerie.

Lian'er screamed in fright and jumped onto Qing Sui.

Qing Sui drew her short sword and gave a deep reminder.

"There are poisonous snakes inside, stay away."

Li Dou, holding a shovel, protected his men as they retreated.

Ye Qi had already landed in front of him to guard against any unforeseen events.

In that tense moment when my scalp tingled, I heard Jiang Qingwan's displeased anger.

"Mo Yunhan, put me down."

Everyone looked over.

Then Mo Yunhan picked the person up in his arms and stepped back a few paces away.

Jiang Qingwan, whom he was holding, was glaring at him with a look of disgust.

The atmosphere was completely devoid of any ripples of ambiguity; in fact, it was somewhat amusing.

Mo Yunhan coughed awkwardly.

"There's a snake."

"I'm not afraid."

Jiang Qingwan suddenly broke free from his hand around her waist and landed on the ground, angrily kicking his shin again.

The Qilian Mountains are teeming with snakes, insects, rats, and ants; why would she be afraid of such things?

After landing, he took out a blank talisman, quickly drew on it, and threw it into the pile of snakes.

As if summoned, the snakes swarmed around the fallen talisman, intertwining into a huge ball of snakes, but quickly rolled in one direction and disappeared into the rocky mountain a moment later.

The men who were digging the pit with Li Dou were so frightened that their legs went weak.

"A snake's nest in the graveyard is a very bad omen. Should we still dig it up?"

"That's right, with so many snakes, the feng shui must have been ruined long ago."

Ye Qi approached the edge of the pit and looked down. Beneath the dry mountain soil, the area had become damp and muddy due to the snakes' comings and goings. He could even see small holes from which the snakes had crawled out, from which water was seeping out.

Even though he didn't understand feng shui, he could tell that this place was probably not suitable for burying people.

"Madam Jiang, this place isn't right."

Jiang Qingwan had already walked over, looked at the bottom of the pit, and then looked at the compass in her hand.

She doesn't use this thing often, so it's unlikely that she would mess up something as simple as checking a grave or looking at its feng shui.

Thinking of this, she bent down, reached out and picked up some soil, then rubbed it between her fingertips.

There was a chill in the dampness.

She turned to look at Mo Yunhan.

"Was the Yun family also court officials before?"

Mo Yunhan came to her side and squatted down like her.

"Yes, Yun Xiaoran's father and grandfather were both military men who fought alongside Marquis Weiyuan in battles across the country. He was Guo Hao's father. After making meritorious contributions, he was granted an official position and the Yun family was established. Later, when the Great Zhou destroyed the Great Sui, Yun's grandfather led a vanguard team and was ambushed by the Great Sui's mechanical camp during a surprise attack. He died on the battlefield."

Jiang Qingwan frowned.

How could he have died in that great battle again?

"Have the remains been brought back?"

Mo Yunhan shook his head.

"The Sui Dynasty's mechanical arts were very advanced. The fire was too intense, and the bodies were severely burned, making it impossible to distinguish who was who. So they were buried on the spot and a hero's tomb was erected. As for the Yun family ancestral cemetery, only a cenotaph was erected for the living to remember them."

Jiang Qingwan gave a cold laugh.

“The area is overgrown with weeds, and the living have not paid much attention to it.”

Mo Yunhan knew she was referring to Yun Xiaoran, so he pursed his lips and changed the subject.

"With so many snakes appearing, has someone tampered with the cemetery?"

Jiang Qingwan rolled her eyes at him.

"No."

"When the incense is cut off, the spirits of the dead are left to languish. Like the wild grass covering the mountains, over time, it has become a land without a master. Snakes, insects, rats and ants can come and go as they please, without needing to ask heaven and earth or consult their relatives."

She turned and waved to Qinghui and Lian'er.

"Bring that live rooster, cut its neck, and pour its blood around the grave."

"Then move that tank of fish over here and put it in..."

She looked around and pointed to a location.

Li Dou threw down his shovel and went to help, quickly getting everything done.

Ye Qi suddenly exclaimed "Eh!"

"The water has seeped in."

Several men peered down and couldn't help but marvel.

They were all freelancers, and they had seen strange and unusual things during burials. Whenever they encountered snakes, the feng shui masters would not disturb the snakes, but would choose to avoid them.

This is the first time I've ever seen a snake make room for a dead person, and the family is still going to proceed with the burial.

Jiang Qingwan went over and scooped up another handful of soil and crushed it.

The chill hadn't dissipated, but it no longer pierced the skin with the same malicious intent as before.

She nodded with satisfaction.

The skeletons in the coffins were all victims of violent deaths, buried in the mud of a dry well. They couldn't be buried in the usual way, but the snakes have actually helped.

This location is not only shady but also cold. As long as the yang energy of rooster blood is used to avoid water, it will be the most suitable place for these vengeful spirits and broken bones to land.

Master said that the yin and yang of the world is a great cycle.

Although no one has ever actually seen a person enter the cycle of reincarnation after death, if reincarnation truly exists, a good burial place might be the last protection of justice in this world for them.
