After Jian Ruoxi escaped, the assassin only glanced at her indifferently before focusing his attention on the kidnappers opposite him.
"No, aren't you going to pursue her?"
He had originally planned to play the hero and save the damsel in distress.
Ideally, the assassin would continue chasing Miss Jane, and then he would bravely stop the assassin. That would be incredibly heroic.
"She can't escape."
“No matter how far my prey runs, I can always find it.”
"Now, I'm more interested in knowing where your limits are."
He had just run out of bullets, and taking advantage of this lull, he reloaded with a new one.
The kidnapper's lips twitched.
"No way, they're doing it again?"
The assassin gently wiped his pistol, as if caressing a precious treasure.
"You only have one bullet left to fight."
The kidnapper's heart skipped a beat. "What...what do you mean?"
Don't think I can't see that you're procrastinating.
"After one bullet, I'm too lazy to play with you anymore."
"That woman who ran away just now, she only has a little time left. I suppose she's pregnant, so she can't have gone far."
After saying that, the assassin immediately fired at the kidnappers.
The speed and frequency of the shooting this time were significantly faster than before.
He could only use all his strength to dodge, and he kept praying for Jian Ruoxi in his heart.
"Miss Jane, you must escape as soon as possible!"
In the woods.
After running for a while, Jian Ruoxi was out of breath and took a short rest by holding onto a tree trunk.
At that moment, I suddenly felt discomfort in my lower abdomen.
She placed one hand on her lower abdomen, wearily comforting the baby inside.
"Baby, can we hang in there a little longer?"
"We'll be safe once we escape or see a crowd."
She didn't dare linger there for too long, so she gritted her teeth and continued walking forward.
She hadn't been gone long.
A sinister voice suddenly came from behind, "You actually managed to run this far; I underestimated you."
Has he caught up?
Could it be the kidnapper?
Jian Ruoxi quickened her pace.
No, I need to hurry.
If we hurry, we'll see people, and both she and the kidnappers will be saved.
The assassin followed slowly behind, showing no concern that Jian Ruoxi would actually escape.
He had already surveyed the forest before coming here. If it weren't for the production team needing to film a program, no one would have come here at all.
He didn't forget to "kindly" remind Jian Ruoxi, who was focused on escaping.
"Can you handle this strenuous exercise?"
"But I think the baby in your belly might not be used to it yet."
The discomfort in my stomach is getting stronger and stronger.
But she dared not stop; the assassin was right behind her, ready to shoot at any moment.
He actually knew he was pregnant.
It was Li Anran who told him, wasn't it?
It seems that Li Anran has placed her last bet on this assassin, determined to kill both her and her unborn child.
"Prey are all like that; they always feel that as long as they don't give up, there is still a glimmer of hope."
The assassin looked up at the dim sky and said expressionlessly.
"Prey is always like this, always thinking that there is still a sliver of hope for a successful escape."
"The result is still the same."
Without even glancing at Jian Ruoxi, who was only focused on running away, he raised his pistol, pointing the muzzle at her head.
His gaze was cold and indifferent, as if the person on the other side was just a dead man.
He gently pulled the trigger, and a gunshot rang out suddenly in the forest.
The assassin's pupils widened, and blood slid down his cheeks, dripping onto the ground.
Until his very last moment, he didn't know how he died.
Across from him, the muzzle of Lu Shen's gun was still smoking.
Seeing the assassin fall to the ground, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Luckily, I made it in time."
God knows, his heart was in his throat when he saw the assassin raise his gun.
He looked at Ruoxi, who was curled up in a ball opposite him, her body still trembling, and his eyes revealed deep heartache and self-blame.
He should have arrived sooner; Ruoxi wouldn't have suffered so much.
When the gunshot rang out, he clearly saw Ruoxi almost instinctively crouch down, her hands immediately protecting her lower abdomen.
He walked slowly toward her and knelt down in front of her.
Sensing someone approaching, Jian Ruoxi kept backing away.
"No, don't come any closer!"
"Don't hurt my child."
Lu Shen reached out and stroked her head gently, one stroke at a time.
"Ruoxi, it's me, Lu Shen."
"Don't be afraid, I've already taken care of the assassin."
Hearing the all-too-familiar voice, Jian Ruoxi slowly raised her head, her face streaked with tears.
"Lu Shen?"
Although the person in front of her was him, she could hardly believe it.
One second you're about to step into hell, the next you're in heaven.
"It's me."
Jian Ruoxi pursed her lips, and tears of grievance immediately streamed down her face.
"Lu Shen, why did you take so long to show up!"
She punched him in the shoulder, then wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I was kidnapped and I even encountered an assassin."
“That’s the man.” She pointed behind her to where the assassin had been standing. “He was going to kill me and my child.”
Lu Shen gently patted her head, soothing her in the gentlest tone.
"It's alright, it's alright now. I'm here, no one will hurt you."
Jian Ruoxi buried her face in his shoulder and cried loudly, as if she wanted to vent all her grievances and fears.
"It's all your fault for being so late!"
