Chapter 404 Opening Up

The other side's men released Chen Hu. At first, Chen Hu timidly and hastily escaped from Hu Lan's clutches.

After coming out, he saw his underlings and began to hurl insults at them: "That bastard, he's a bully who relies on his master's power."

One of the henchmen, noticing Chen Hu's bad mood, stepped forward and offered a suggestion: "Brother Chen, we guys don't like him either, especially since he bullies you. Why don't we find a way to beat him up?"

Chen Hu slapped the other man on the back of the head: "What are you saying? This is a society ruled by law. You can hit him if you want. Aren't you afraid of retaliation from the Hu family?"

However, his younger brother gave him an idea. He gathered a few of his confidants together and said, "We've grown up together as sworn brothers. Can you help me get revenge on Hu Lan?"

"We must get revenge. He tricked us last time and took you away alone. I've wanted to get rid of him for a long time."

"But we need to think of a way to avoid giving them any leverage."

After thinking it over, Chen Hu thought, "I heard that Hu Lan is going to the city for a meeting in a few days. I'll call a few of us to wait for him there."

The others also agreed with Chen Hu's idea. Hu Lan was going to the city to discuss business in a few days, so she told her assistant, "Go and book a hotel for three days."

When Hu Lan led his group to the hotel, Chen Hu and his henchmen followed him furtively.

Hu Lan was checking in when a young man stood guard at the door. Seeing Hu Lan dragging her luggage toward the elevator, he said into his headset, "Almost there, she's heading toward the elevator."

At that moment, the younger brother swaggered in and asked the hotel receptionist, "Are there any rooms available right now?"

However, his eyes were constantly fixed on the direction Hu Lan had gone. Once he saw Hu Lan enter the elevator, he said to the receptionist, "Alright, no need to make a reservation. I have something to do, so I'm leaving now."

The receptionist rolled her eyes at him as the underling strolled out the door. A loud crash was heard behind him. After leaving the house, the underling quickly ran to the car and started the van.

After circling around, they arrived at a blind spot in the surveillance system, picked up Chen Hu and the others, and then drove away.

Hu Lan gripped the elevator handrail, breathing heavily with trepidation: "What happened?"

The assistant turned on the flashlight on his phone and said, "It looks like there's a power outage."

"That shouldn't be the case. Elevators usually have backup power supplies." Hu Lan keenly sensed that something was wrong.

However, there was no signal in the elevator, so none of them could send messages or make calls.

Just then, Chen Hu and his group came face to face with Jian Ruoxi, who was entering the city. Chen Hu had a smug smile on his face and showed no fear when facing Jian Ruoxi.

Jian Ruoxi felt uneasy. For some reason, she made a phone call to Hu Lan, but no one answered.

She called several times, but no one answered. She asked Gu Hao, "Do you remember where Hu Lan said he was going yesterday?"

Gu Hao remembered that he immediately turned the car around and drove towards the hotel: "The Swan Hotel, which I just checked into today, Chen Hu and his group might do something."

The two rushed to the hotel and found it in complete chaos. Jian Ruoxi grabbed a waiter and asked, "What happened? Have you seen Hu Lan?"

The waiter looked at Jian Ruoxi with a look of horror: "I'm sorry, ma'am, our hotel has suddenly lost power and the elevator is also malfunctioning. As for the gentleman you mentioned, we are currently unable to check his information on the computer."

The waiter thought Jian Ruoxi had come to confront him, and he was very nervous.

Jian Ruoxi found the lobby manager, who happened to be the one who checked Hu Lan in, and learned that Hu Lan was trapped in the elevator.

She took the manager's megaphone and shouted into the elevator, "Hu Lan, everyone is preparing for a rescue, don't panic."

These words traveled through the elevator, offering some comfort to Hu Lan, who was already struggling to breathe. Hu Lan sat on the floor, shaking her legs, trying to look out through the elevator crack, but there was nothing there.

Jian Ruoxi continued from outside, "The firefighters will be here in a minute, don't be nervous."

The manager took the megaphone and added, "Our elevators all have anti-fall systems, so there's no need to worry."

When the firefighters arrived, Hu Lan and the others had been trapped inside for more than ten minutes. The main reason was that Chen Hu and his group had placed a dilapidated van in the middle of the road, blocking the way.

The fire truck had to take a detour, and Jian Ruoxi led Gu Hao to guide it.

Fortunately, the hotel's preventative measures were adequate, so their lives were not threatened.

Firefighters dismantled the elevator, and people inside were rescued one by one. However, Hu Lan's condition caught Jian Ruoxi's attention.

She watched as Hu Lan sat in the chair, breathing heavily, sweating profusely, his muscles trembling slightly. She poured him a cup of hot water from the side and handed it to him.

However, Hu Lan's hand trembled and the water in the cup spilled out. Seeing this, Jian Ruoxi guessed that Hu Lan might have claustrophobia and had an attack during the time she was locked in the elevator.

Jian Ruoxi immediately stepped forward and comforted Hu Lan: "Are you alright? It was just a simple power outage, nothing serious."

"Elevator malfunctions are common, and no one has been injured or killed."

Hu Lan gradually calmed down under her comforting words, and when he looked up, he saw Jian Ruoxi's warm and radiant smile.

It felt like my heart had been struck by something, and I emerged from the fear I had just felt.

Seeing that he was alright, Jian Ruoxi said, "Since there's nothing else, we'll be going now."

"I like you." Hu Lan expressed her love for Jian Ruoxi directly.

However, Jian Ruoxi said, "I'm already pregnant."

This statement is a way of implying to the other person that they are about to get married and have a child, so they shouldn't have any other thoughts about them.

However, Hu Lan bluntly stated: "I have a five-year-old daughter, and I don't mind if you get pregnant."

Jian Ruoxi asked him, "So you're divorced now, right?"

“That’s right. I was in a car accident three years ago. I was trapped inside the car, but my driver abandoned me and ran away.”

"It was because of this incident that I developed claustrophobia," Hu Lan recalled.

Jian Ruoxi said, "I understand your fear, but people always have to look forward."

“We’re already divorced, so you don’t need to worry. I’m single now,” Hu Lan explained her current marital status.

However, Jian Ruoxi wasn't worried about whether Hu Lan was married or had children. What she couldn't let go of was Lu Shen. The two of them had a deep friendship and had gone through so much to get to where they were now.

She felt she still couldn't let go of Lu Shen and said to Hu Lan, "I'm sorry, I still can't accept it."
