After taking a shower, Wang Ming lay in bed and secretly checked his phone to see if Shen Ying had posted anything today.
He usually wouldn't comment, but would just silently watch Shen Ying update her status, guessing from a few words how she was doing lately. Sometimes she would post some sentimental sentences, and Wang Ming would start to have all sorts of random thoughts.
"So annoying!!!"
"I should have never come back!"
"Sometimes I really doubt whether I am their biological child."
Three posts today suggest that Shen Ying is not in a good mood right now, with the most recent one being ten minutes ago.
After hesitating for a long time, Wang Ming finally decided to send a message to ask about the situation, wondering if Shen Ying was asleep.
"Are you there?"
Shen Ying sat alone on the corner of the bed, the old electric fan in the bedroom humming and providing a weak breeze.
She was staring blankly out the window when her phone suddenly vibrated slightly. She glanced down and saw Wang Ming's soldier profile picture slowly moving.
Seeing his message after clicking on it made me feel a little better.
"Um."
"You're still awake?" Wang Ming typed quickly.
Shen Ying replied, "I can't sleep."
"What's wrong? You seem to be in a bad mood. Do you want to tell me?" Wang Ming replied casually.
After sending the message, Wang Ming felt a little nervous. He knew that Shen Ying was in a bad mood, and that she might have had a fight with her family. He was worried that she was keeping everything bottled up inside, and he was also afraid that he would meddle and cause the conversation to end.
Shen Ying sniffled slightly, typed a lot of words, hesitated for a moment, and then deleted them all, simply replying, "It's nothing."
Wang Ming sighed softly. As expected, Shen Ying was still unwilling to say anything. It made sense; even if she had something to be unhappy about, she should confide in her best friend. He was the one who had been rejected by her, so he had no right to do so.
"Okay. By the way, did you go home for National Day?"
"Um."
Shen Ying clearly didn't want to talk much about herself, and Wang Ming was too embarrassed to ask her directly, as it was easy to make a mistake in such a situation.
Just as he was at a loss for words and they were at an impasse, Shen Ying suddenly asked him, "Is Aunt Li in the capital now?"
"Yes, I've been here for over a week now."
"That's wonderful." Her words betrayed a hint of envy.
As one of the founding members of Qitian Animation Company, she is now the only one still in Chongqing. The others have all moved to Beijing, and some have even moved their companies there.
If she hadn't been constantly in the company group chat, I would have felt like I was being abandoned.
As her new colleagues joined the group one by one, she could only silently lurk and watch. Although Lin Yanwan kept telling her that her workstation would always be reserved for her, she always thought that the company would thrive even without her.
As the days went by, these thoughts grew stronger. She could only see her colleagues chatting in the group chat, but she dared not say anything.
"Wang Ming, how's the new company?" she asked slowly.
"It's great. It's very spacious and currently under renovation. Although we haven't officially started working yet, it's becoming more and more like a legitimate animation company," Wang Ming answered honestly.
Shen Ying imagined what a proper animation company would look like, and assigned each of the new colleagues in the group to a specific job. Compared to the small company with only four people before, it was undoubtedly much better.
"Then you'd better keep an eye on my workstation and not let anyone else take it," she said half-jokingly, but she was actually quite afraid. If even these old friends gradually distanced themselves from her, she would truly be all alone.
“Okay, I’ll keep it for you.” Wang Ming replied affirmatively.
"Haha, thanks a lot then. By the way, where did you go for the National Day holiday?"
Wang Ming sighed softly, "Schools gave us time off for National Day, but the company didn't."
However, he didn't think that holidays were so great. Many college students would go out and stay up all night to surf the internet during their holidays. In his opinion, this was a sign of wasting one's time and energy. He felt that it was more fulfilling to draw a few pictures in his dorm room.
"Huh? Didn't Aunt Li post an announcement in the group saying that we'd officially start work on October 8th?"
Shen Ying did want to visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and see the portraits of great figures. She originally had the opportunity to reunite with them in the capital during this National Day holiday. Even though the round-trip airfare was expensive, the money she earned during the summer vacation was enough to cover it.
After much hesitation, I went home, and ended up arguing with my family.
"Yes, but there are still many things to finish at the company, so we have to work overtime every day. I just got off work not long ago."
Shen Ying stared blankly at the sentence, lost in thought. After more than ten seconds, she slowly typed a reply: "I really envy you guys being able to get together anytime."
She was far away in Chongqing, and even if she wanted to help the company, she couldn't even watch from the sidelines.
"When you come, we can still get together every day."
Shen Ying felt a pang of sadness. By the time she went to the capital, it would be around the time of her senior year internship. Three years had passed, and everything had changed. Would the scene be the same as it is today?
"What have you been busy with lately?" she asked instinctively.
"Hmm..." Wang Ming thought for a moment, wondering whether he should tell her the details, but it seemed like there was nothing to hide.
"It's nothing much, just that Lao Jiang is teaching me how to write scripts and draw storyboards."
After pressing send, he added, "It's very difficult to learn, and I can't make any progress."
"fine."
Even if Shen Ying didn't know much about animation, she had at least worked in company operations for a few months and could tell at a glance that Jiang Xia was heavily cultivating Wang Ming, wanting to train him to be a true right-hand man. Perhaps soon, Wang Ming would take over the Tom and Jerry project.
Everyone else is making progress, but she's stuck in the same place, only able to continue running her Tom and Jerry online account to avoid becoming completely transparent.
"Don't rush, just take your time to learn. With your talent, you'll definitely be able to learn it."
Wang Ming scratched his head; this was the first time Shen Ying had ever praised him.
"Old Jiang said the same thing, but being an animation director is really difficult. I get scolded by him all day long."
Upon saying this, Wang Ming couldn't help but feel deeply helpless. Jiang Xia's requirements were too high, especially his understanding of the script. If the storyboard was even slightly off, he would make him redraw it.
"He personally taught you and you still complain? If you learn even a fraction of his skills, you can create Tom and Jerry on your own."
"Haha, that's what I think too."
