Time seemed to seep out like water droplets from a crack in the rock, passing very, very slowly.
Jiang Xia never expected that he would run into Lin Yanwan here. Or perhaps the two of them had met frequently in high school, but were not familiar with each other back then and would subconsciously ignore each other's presence.
As if sensing the gazes of others, Lin Yanwan looked up and her expression immediately froze.
When their eyes meet, couples who have shared a bed for eight years can clearly understand each other's meaning even from the slightest change in expression.
There was no doubt, only surprise and unexpectedness, and a slight sense of relief—the worries in my heart finally subsided.
However, the eye contact lasted only a moment before the two of them tacitly averted their gazes.
Instead of turning her head, she looked away, her heart pounding wildly.
"Yanwan, what's wrong?" Shen Ying looked at her.
Lin Yanwan shook her head slightly, silently brushing past him, her calm expression revealing nothing of her thoughts.
Their first meeting after their rebirth was uneventful; both of them remained calm and composed.
Jiang Xia looked at the teaching building across the street, its white tiles reflecting the bright light. He squinted, then turned his head to look at Lin Yanwan's back again.
His tall black ponytail swayed gently with his steps, and his fair neck revealed a youthful vitality he had never seen before.
So this is what she looked like in high school. It's rare to see her like this after marriage. And... she's quite cute.
But the look she gave me just now... did it mean she had also been reborn?
Jiang Xia wasn't sure for a moment.
"Old Jiang, what are you looking at?" Wang Ming came out of the restroom and stood next to Jiang Xia, following his gaze.
"It's nothing." Jiang Xia calmly withdrew her gaze and casually tossed him a bottle of Xiaohaha mineral water. "Let's go back to the classroom."
Wang Ming gently stroked his chin: "If I'm not mistaken, that's Lin Yanwan from Class 1, right?"
"You can recognize this?" Jiang Xia asked with a strange expression.
"The class beauty of Class 1 is pretty and has good grades, but she is said to be rather aloof."
Jiang Xia remained silent. In fact, Lin Yanwan was not aloof at all, but simply a homebody or someone with mild social anxiety. Despite having excellent qualities in all aspects, she did not like to interact with people, and over time, she came to be perceived as aloof by others.
"What's wrong? You have a crush on someone too?" Wang Ming glanced at him and teased.
"Don't talk nonsense, that's not true."
The two whispered to each other as they walked away. Lin Yanwan suddenly stopped and turned around, but her view was already blocked by other classmates.
"What's wrong?" Shen Ying asked.
Lin Yanwan shook her head slightly and said absentmindedly, "It's nothing."
Even though I had already decided to stop paying attention to everything about this person, fate just had to make me meet him so early.
And that look in his eyes...
She wasn't sure if Jiang Xia had also been reborn with her, but that subtle, hesitant expression was indeed his habitual gesture.
If that's the case, then why doesn't he talk to me?
However, I don't have the guts to do it myself.
She couldn't help but smile bitterly to herself. No wonder they had been husband and wife for eight years; they were truly in sync on certain matters.
"Yanwan, how about I ask you for leave? You can rest well for half a day. With your grades, it won't make a difference if you take a short break."
Hearing her best friend's concern, Lin Yanwan stopped insisting. She did need some time to calm herself down.
"Thank you, Yingying."
"We're good friends."
◇
Following Wang Ming to the classroom door, Jiang Xia looked up at the class sign hanging on the wall—Class 6 of Senior Three. Memories associated with it slowly moistened her heart like a gentle stream.
He sat in the second-to-last row, by the window. His deskmate was a girl with light freckles on her face named Chen Yao. She had shoulder-length short hair, a youthful appearance, and a petite figure. Her only flaw was that she was too introverted, focusing solely on her studies and disliking talking to others.
In their previous life in high school, the two had a fairly good relationship, and Chen Yao would talk a little more than usual when she was with him.
Unfortunately, after they went to university, they went their separate ways and gradually lost contact. I heard that they got divorced and he was raising his young daughter alone.
"You keep staring at me. Am I acting strange today?" Chen Yao adjusted her glasses, her thick bangs falling down to cover the faint freckles on her cheeks. "Did you not do your test again?"
Jiang Xia's thoughts were interrupted, and he caught his breath. He didn't know anything. He quickly took out the test paper from his desk. Although it wasn't completely blank, he had only done a small part of it.
Looking back, I was really pretty useless back then. My academic grades were below average, and I only managed to get into the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute by performing exceptionally well during the exam.
She kept her head down, only glancing at Jiang Xia out of the corner of her eye, and couldn't help but sigh.
"Jiang Xia, although you are an art student, you still have to take the academic exams. For many people, the college entrance exam is the only chance to change their lives. I've left the exam paper here. You can't copy it. Look at the questions you don't know how to answer."
Jiang Xia smiled and agreed, then turned to concentrate on doing the test paper.
Now that he's been given a second chance at life, and he has a natural advantage in professional painting, he should at least get into the Central Academy of Fine Arts or the China Academy of Art, right?
However, just a few minutes later, Jiang Xia was dumbfounded. He couldn't do any of the math problems on the test paper; he had long forgotten everything he had learned.
It seems he has to relearn all the knowledge from the three years of high school within a limited time in order to have any chance of doing better than in his previous life.
