After leaving Wang Ming's house, Jiang Xia called his wife.
"Baby, have you eaten?"
"You're coming over, aren't you? Just bring me any takeout." Lin Yanwan saw through his intentions at a glance.
What would you like to eat?
"Hmm, shredded pork with garlic sauce over rice."
"Okay, I'll be there in a bit."
After hanging up the phone, it was lunchtime. Jiang Xia went to a small shop that he thought had pretty good food and ordered a bowl of shredded pork with garlic sauce over rice to go. After thinking for a moment, he also bought her a cup of taro milk tea.
He carried the takeout upstairs and saw the closed security door. Jiang Xia coughed lightly and knocked on the door.
"Hello, Meituan Waimai (Meituan Takeout)".
A few seconds later, Lin Yanwan opened the door for him, giving him a disapproving look: "There's no such thing as Meituan these days."
Jiang Xia walked in with a grin: "Me? I'm your personal deliveryman, the kind that's always available."
"My personal delivery guy is taking so long, I'm starving." Lin Yanwan snorted softly, took the food from her hand, and felt a little smug.
"Why is there only one serving? Aren't you going to eat it?" she asked, glancing at her pocket.
Jiang Xia replied, "I already ate at Lao Wang's house."
She nodded; Jiang Xia had texted her earlier about it.
"How did your chat with his mother go?" Lin Yanwan opened the lunchbox, took a deep sniff, and the aroma of the shredded pork with garlic sauce made her mouth water.
"It's alright, they've already agreed to be my negotiation consultant."
Jiang Xia went to the kitchen to get a spoon, then sat down next to her, resting his chin on his hand as he watched her eat slowly and deliberately.
"How does it taste?" he asked with a smile.
"It's alright. Anything tastes good when you're hungry, but there's a bit too much scallion."
"Then we won't eat the scallions." Jiang Xia carefully used disposable chopsticks to pick out the scallions and put them on a paper towel. What was left was all shredded meat, wood ear mushrooms, and shredded carrots.
Looking at his serious profile, Lin Yanwan suddenly scooped up a spoonful of rice mixed with shredded meat and held it to his mouth.
"Ah—open your mouth."
"What? I've already eaten."
“There’s too much food for me to finish. Even if I’ve eaten, I still need to have a bite. Ah—” She smiled gently, like she was nursing a child.
"Okay, just one bite." Jiang Xia opened his mouth and ate it, but as soon as he swallowed, Lin Yanwan smiled and brought the spoon to his mouth again.
The result was a bowl of shredded pork with garlic sauce over rice. The two of them took turns eating it, and in the end, half of it ended up in Jiang Xia's stomach.
"Next time I should just bring you two steamed buns, since you can't eat that many anyway."
"No steamed buns, but small cakes are fine!"
Lin Yanwan said earnestly, taking a tissue to wipe the oil stains off Jiang Xia's lips. The latter blinked, opened his mouth, and took her slender finger into his mouth.
"Um, you... let go."
She felt both ashamed and angry, and couldn't help but think of some embarrassing scenes.
Jiang Xia chuckled and agreed. Lin Yanwan blushed and withdrew her finger, giving him a resentful glare.
"You're disgusting." She wiped herself clean with a tissue.
"Why don't you slurp it back?"
Jiang Xia blinked, put her finger to Lin Yanwan's lips, and Lin Yanwan's eyes rolled. She opened her mouth and bit down.
"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! You really bit me!"
"Hmph, who told you to be a hooligan?"
She stuck out her finger and flashed him a triumphant look, revealing her neat, white teeth.
Looking at the teeth marks on his fingers, Jiang Xia felt like crying.
"Does it hurt a lot? I didn't use much force." Lin Yanwan pursed her lips, a little embarrassed.
"Look at the teeth marks yourself, they're so deep."
Lin Yanwan gently rubbed the spot where she had been bitten, and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, I hurt you."
"A kiss from the baby will make the pain go away."
She hesitated slightly, and although she knew that Jiang Xia was taking advantage of her, she still leaned in and kissed his fingers.
"Baby, it's a kiss on the lips, not a kiss on the fingers," Jiang Xia said shamelessly.
She tossed her head back and threw the takeout box into the trash can: "Dream on. Anyway, I've already kissed it, so it's none of my business if my fingers hurt. Hmph."
Seeing her innocent and romantic appearance, Jiang Xia let out a silent laugh.
In fact, my finger didn't hurt much at all; I just wanted to tease her.
After dinner, Lin Yanwan sat on the balcony, picked up her guitar, and gently hummed a song. The tune was melodious, and her voice was beautiful. Jiang Xia recognized it as "Heart Wall," composed by JJ Lin. He had been a fan of JJ Lin back then and sang it countless times.
I wonder if, after their rebirth, a tiny crack has appeared in the wall between their hearts?
As the song slowly came to an end, the melodious and smooth voice lingered in her heart. Jiang Xia couldn't help but walk over and put his arm around her waist from behind.
"Baby……"
The murmured voice sounded in her ear, and Lin Yanwan's body stiffened, then gradually relaxed.
"What's wrong?" She put down her guitar and gently rubbed her cheek against his face.
"On the day of the earthquake, the ceiling fell down, and the walls must have collapsed too, right?" he said softly, with a hidden meaning.
"Perhaps."
Lin Yanwan gave a noncommittal answer, turned her head and gently kissed him on the cheek, then stood up and sat back down at the piano.
He looked at the midday sun and sighed softly. His wife's lack of a direct answer meant that a wall still existed between them. But from another perspective, wasn't he the same?
Ultimately, dating and marriage are different. He was equally worried that the two of them might repeat the mistakes of their past life, an outcome that neither he nor Lin Yanwan wanted to see again.
"If you're bored, go to my room and go online. Don't bother me; I haven't finished my work yet," she said, opening the video call without turning around.
"All right."
Jiang Xia sighed silently, thinking that his wife was deliberately avoiding the topic. He walked into the bedroom and gently closed the door, as if separating the two worlds.
Lin Yanwan's gaze unconsciously drifted to the bedroom door. She was lost in thought, and even though she knew Jiang Xia's feelings last night, she still didn't dare to give a definite answer.
Compared to the uncertainty of the future, she inexplicably felt that continuing their current relationship was good enough.
That thin layer of paper, though seemingly delicate, lacked the courage to break through.
unless……
She sighed softly, realizing it was too early to be thinking about these things.
The nimble fingers pressed the piano keys one after another, while the other hand used chopsticks to strike the bottom of the bowl. The sound effect produced by the combination of the two was perfectly matched with the current scene of the animation.
Hearing the sounds returning to the living room, Jiang Xia perked up and logged onto his QQ account to send an email to the Chongqing TV station.
