Unable to resist, Lin Yanwan's heartstrings were plucked by Jiang Xia, and her face flushed red in the night.
She hid in the darkness, not letting Jiang Xia see her burning red face, and scoffed, "Sweet talk? I'm not an 18-year-old girl. I won't be happy with your cheesy pick-up lines."
Jiang Xia smiled silently, knowing that his wife had a proud and aloof personality, so he didn't expose her and continued to go along with her wishes: "If one sentence isn't enough, then a hundred sentences will do, until you're happy."
"Then tell me!"
Jiang Xia suddenly stopped, her gaze sharpening as she looked around: "Baby, can you smell anything?"
"Huh?" Lin Yanwan sniffed around suspiciously, then said in confusion, "No, there isn't anything there."
"No? Then why does the air around you feel sweet?" He took a deep breath and suddenly pulled out a rose from behind his back as if by magic.
"Flowers for a beautiful woman, this is for you, my beautiful lady." Jiang Xia smiled slightly and handed her the roses with gentlemanly manners.
Lin Yanwan felt as if she had eaten honey. She took the rose from his hand and was too shy to look him in the eye for a moment.
"Hey, when did you buy it?" she asked, bending down to take a gentle sniff.
"I didn't buy it. I just picked it when I passed by your community's flowerbed," Jiang Xia said with a grin.
"Watch out, the security guards might yell at you."
"No, the security guard at that flowerbed can't see it," he said with a smile, gently squeezing his wife's soft, boneless hand. "Are you happier now?"
"Just... a tiny bit."
"One or one hundred million?"
"One! One sound!"
Lin Yanwan sniffled haughtily, knowing she would never admit it.
“My darling, your arrogance has faded away.” Jiang Xia suddenly leaned closer and whispered in her ear.
She squeezed his hand tightly, embarrassed and annoyed: "Just one sound! No, now there's not even a trace left!"
"I'll have it right away."
"It's gone!"
Seeing that she didn't understand what he meant, Jiang Xia couldn't help but burst into laughter. Oh well, he decided not to tease her anymore.
Someone who is clearly very smart becomes stupid when in love.
But being clumsy is also cute.
Seeing him laugh so loudly, Lin Yanwan suddenly felt confused, wondering if she had fallen into his trap again, but after thinking it over carefully, she couldn't find anything wrong.
"Wandering around?"
"Um."
The two walked away hand in hand. Lin Yanwan held a rose in her hand and noticed that he had carefully removed all the thorns from the stem, just so she wouldn't hurt herself.
The sweetness in my heart grew a little stronger.
Before they knew it, the two arrived at a night market not far from their home. The night market was small, but it had everything they needed.
Ignoring the hawking food vendors, Jiang Xia bought two bowls of ice jelly from an old man. On summer nights, this is the kind of thing you should eat—it quenches your thirst and cools you down.
Jiang Xia asked, "Want to try your hand at ring toss?"
Lin Yanwan glanced at the stall next to her. The stall wasn't big, but it was densely packed with trinkets, but she wasn't interested.
"No, that's a waste of money."
"All right."
Jiang Xia sighed. There really wasn't much fun in this era, except for going online. But these two reborn individuals were already used to eating flour, so how could they swallow coarse chaff? Going to an internet cafe was not as good as the two of them taking a stroll under the moon.
While enjoying some ice jelly, the two casually strolled around the night market before heading home.
Just then, Lin Yanwan suddenly heard a cat meow, which sounded so faint and weak in the night market filled with all sorts of noise.
"What's wrong?" Jiang Xia stopped and turned to look at his wife, who was standing still.
"Shh..." Lin Yanwan put her finger to her lips and whispered, "There's a kitten meowing."
Jiang Xia knew that his wife loved cats. Sometimes when she saw kittens in other people's shops on the street, she couldn't help but pet them. So he listened carefully, but he couldn't hear anything except the noise of people and cooking.
Are you sure you heard that?
"Absolutely, definitely, and without a doubt! I just heard it right here." Lin Yanwan nodded emphatically, pointing to the green belt in front of her.
Jiang Xia had no doubt about his wife's sensitivity to cats. She finished her ice jelly in a few bites, threw it into the nearby fried rice trash can, and then called out "slurp slurp slurp" while crouching down and turning on her phone's flashlight to search around in the bushes.
"Do you have it?"
"I haven't seen it yet, and it doesn't respond when I call it. But there's a lot of greenery here, so it might have run off to hide somewhere else."
Jiang Xia pursed her lips and suddenly said, "Baby, speaking of which, do you still remember taro balls?"
Lin Yanwan was taken aback. Taro Ball was her cat of ten years, so of course she remembered it.
I remember that winter break when I was a sophomore in college, the two of us went home together, and it seems that we ate a bowl of noodles with minced meat sauce at this night market, but then we encountered a dirty stray cat begging for food from us.
Jiang Xia only fed it some slurped noodles, and then it followed them all the way to Jinxiu Huacheng residential area.
This was clearly a scam, a pretense of escaping and trying to cling to them. Lin Yanwan couldn't bear to push the poor cat away, so the two of them decided to adopt it, and ended up raising it for ten years.
"You mean... this could very well be taro balls?" Lin Yanwan's eyes immediately lit up.
“I’m just guessing. When we found Yuyuan, it was already an adult, and we don’t know how long it had been wandering outside. But what if it had been surviving on discarded food in this night market all along? It could very well be a kitten now. Of course, it could also be another cat,” Jiang Xia said after thinking for a moment.
"I'll search with you!"
Without saying a word, Lin Yanwan finished her ice jelly and then crouched down with Jiang Xia to search in the green belt.
"Taro Ball~ Meow Meow~" she called softly.
Jiang Xia turned to look at her with a strange expression: "We don't even know if it's Sanhua yet, how can you be so sure it's taro balls?"
Lin Yanwan ignored him. She had a strong feeling that the kitten meow she had just heard was Yuyuan!
Unexpectedly, after she kept meowing, a soft kitten meow actually responded.
"Listen, did you hear that?" Lin Yanwan's eyes lit up with joy. "That voice is exactly the same as when Yuyuan is being cute!"
Jiang Xia couldn't tell the difference anyway. In his opinion, all kittens' meows sound pretty much the same, and besides, this was a night market with plenty of stray pets, so the chances of it being Yu Yuan were extremely low.
Lin Yanwan immediately followed the sound, but unfortunately, it stopped making any noise after that one, probably because it had become wary of humans.
She looked at the green belt, where the kitten was hiding and impossible to find.
"What do we do now? The taro balls won't come out."
Lin Yanwan turned to look at Jiang Xia.
