Compared to the harmonious atmosphere of other families, Shenying has long been used to her parents' normal lifestyle after so many years. They have been married for most of their lives, and have had many ups and downs. As long as they don't quarrel, everything is fine.
"Dad, wash your hands, dinner is almost ready."
"good."
Dinner consisted of four dishes and a soup: sweet and sour pork ribs, shredded pork with green peppers, pan-fried tofu, stir-fried bok choy, and the classic tomato and egg soup.
Compared to usual, today's meal was quite lavish. When Shenying was away at school, the elderly couple would just eat whatever was available to get by.
"Yingying, how long is your winter vacation?" Ye Qiuju asked with concern as she placed a piece of sweet and sour pork ribs in her daughter's bowl.
"It will take about a month, and school will officially start in March," Shen Ying replied.
"Oh, that's good."
Shen Ying ate the food her mother had made in small bites, pursed her lips, hesitated for a long time, and finally tentatively said, "Dad, Mom, I...I'm in love."
Shen Jianjun, who was eating quietly to the side, was stunned for a moment. Looking at his daughter's somewhat nervous face, he stopped chewing his food and swallowed it whole after about two seconds.
As he pondered how to bring it up, Ye Qiuju swallowed the vegetables in her mouth, frowned slightly, and asked, "Did you talk about it in college?"
"Um……"
Where is your boyfriend from?
“We went to the same high school in our area, but we weren’t in the same class.” Shen Ying was worried that her parents would think she was dating in high school, so she quickly added, “We started dating gradually after we got to college.”
Ye Qiuju nodded and continued, "How long have you been talking?"
"About two...two years."
Shen Jianwei frowned slightly. His daughter was a junior in college and had been dating for two years. In other words, the two got together not long after she started college.
However, her daughter is doing very well academically and receives scholarships every year, and dating doesn't seem to have affected her studies.
"So, you're in the same class now?"
"No, no, no, his grades are much better than mine. He got into the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the college entrance examination, which is considered the best among art academies. He is now studying in Beijing."
Shen Jianjun was stunned, and subconsciously said, "Then how did you two get together? You're so far apart."
Shen Ying blushed slightly, feeling a little embarrassed, but still answered honestly: "I happened to be traveling home with him during the Spring Festival two years ago, and we usually keep in touch by phone."
So that means it'll be hard to meet up?
"Hmm...hmm, more or less."
Shen Jianjun sighed, put down his chopsticks, and looked at Shen Ying earnestly, saying, "Daughter, it's not that I'm criticizing you, but you were a bit rash in agreeing to this relationship. He's in the capital, and you're in Chongqing. The two of you are so far apart. How can you be sure he won't change his mind?"
"Even if we take a step back and consider the worst-case scenario, after graduation, will you go to him or he come to you? You two live too far apart, and the future is uncertain. I think you two aren't a good match for now, and I'm afraid you'll be deceived."
Upon hearing this, Shen Ying immediately became anxious.
"Dad, no, we have a great relationship. I like him a lot, and he likes me a lot too..."
“Yingying, I think you should listen to your dad about this.”
Ye Qiuju suddenly said, "You're still studying. If you two are truly in love, you can put your feelings aside for now and talk about them after graduation. But if he's just playing around, you'll be wasting your best years and you'll regret it for the rest of your life."
Seeing that her parents said so, Shen Ying gritted her teeth and decided not to hide it any longer. She went back to her room, took out a lot of photos from her suitcase, and handed them to her parents.
"What is this...?" The elderly couple exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with confusion.
“These are all photos I took when I went to see him,” Shen Ying said.
"You're going to find him? Go to the capital? All by yourself?" Ye Qiuju's voice suddenly rose several octaves.
She looked down at the photos; the background included the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square… it seemed she had visited quite a few places.
Without exception, there was also a handsome young man in the photo.
These things were unknown to the two parents; it seems their daughter had been keeping many things from them.
"When did you go to the capital?" Shen Jianjun asked in a deep voice.
“Summer vacation, and the year before last during Chinese New Year,” Shen Ying said.
"Didn't you say you were going to work? So you were lying to us?"
No, not at all.
Shen Ying picked out a few photos from a pile of pictures, showing her wearing her employee badge and sitting at her desk working diligently, proving that she was indeed not lying.
She then took out her employee ID card, which contained her personal information.
Company: Qitian Animation
Name: Shen Ying
Position: Network Operations Supervisor
Shen Jianjun frowned slightly. He seemed to have heard the name Qitian Animation somewhere before.
Ye Qiuju pointed to the boy in the other photos and asked, "Is this the boy?"
“Yes, his name is Wang Ming. He’s currently the director of Qitian Animation. The boss is actually my classmate, Jiang Xia. Mom, do you remember Lin Yanwan? My best friend. They got married, and they started this company. I’m basically working for them now,” Shen Ying said in one breath.
"Uh... wait a minute, it's a bit messy, let me sort it out first."
Shen Jianjun pondered for a moment: "You mean, your classmate started an animation company, and you and that guy named Wang Ming both work at the same company. He's the director, and you're in charge of publicity."
"Yes."
Shen Jianjun was speechless. It wasn't that he didn't believe it, but as an ordinary low-voltage electrical worker, he found it hard to imagine what kind of company a few college students who hadn't even graduated could run.
