"Doctor, how is my wife?" Jiang Xia asked impatiently.
The nurse chuckled and said, "Everything went smoothly, mother and daughter are safe."
Hearing this, Jiang Xia finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Can I go in and take a look now?"
"OK."
Jiang Xia nodded, and without further hesitation, stepped into the delivery room. Xia Shanshan and Ji Wanqiu exchanged a glance and followed suit.
Looking at his wife lying quietly on the bed, her hair on her forehead soaked with sweat and clinging tightly to her skin, Jiang Xia couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache.
Although there is an epidural, judging from the situation, she probably suffered quite a bit during childbirth.
"Baby, you've worked so hard." Jiang Xia held her small hand and said softly, "Are you feeling better now?"
Lin Yanwan took a few breaths, her slightly tired gaze falling on her lover. Seeing his worried expression, a warm feeling washed over her.
"Don't think about these things. Let's talk about it after he finishes his postpartum confinement." Jiang Xia smiled and flicked her nose. "Oh no, go to sleep."
Jiangxia raised his head and held the soft, fragrant lips in his mouth, but a moment later, they parted.
Xia Diandian blushed slightly.
She managed a weak smile.
Finally, all efforts were in vain. A few months before our wedding, our baby quietly knocked on the door. It was the boy I had been longing for.
Jiang Xia subconsciously glanced at his wife's flattened belly. As her husband, he knew all too well how much suffering his wife was going through in late pregnancy despite her nonchalant attitude.
After chatting for a while, Xia Diandian kept yawning. Giving birth had taken a toll on her physical strength and energy, and she had also been given painful anesthesia. She must have been barely keeping her eyes open to see the baby. You must have fallen asleep long ago.
“Yes, it will be bad once the seven senses open up in a couple of days,” Ji Wanqiu said with a smile.
A little while ago, the nurse wiped the baby clean with warm water, placed the baby next to Xia Diandian, and instructed, "After giving birth, the mother needs to rest well. Before the anesthesia wears off, she can't eat quickly for about an hour."
Xia Diandian's expression turned slightly embarrassed as her inner thoughts were seen through at a glance.
The baby was tightly wrapped in swaddling clothes and was still crying. His eyes were closed, and only his wrinkled face was visible, making him look like an old man.
"Was it like that when you were a child too?" Xia Diandian looked at her mother.
"Come on, give me a kiss before you sleep," you said coquettishly, pouting your alluring lips.
About half an hour ago, the two elderly mothers returned and bought a portion of chicken soup with red dates and goji berries simmering in a clay pot from a restaurant in the distance. They said they would feed it to you if you got hungry later.
“Okay, Xia Xia is looking at Yan Wan with a mischievous grin. He'll call you guys if there's nothing wrong. Go inside and buy Yan Wan something to eat,” Xia Shanshan said.
Jiang Xia nodded. It was still dark. His parents had come all the way from their hometown by plane, and they must be tired after such a long journey. They needed to rest.
You're really slow, aren't you? During the ten months of pregnancy, your body secretes small amounts of estrogen, making you more and more sensitive. You've been doing all sorts of things, and now that your belly is sore and you've had a hard time giving birth, you're thinking that you can no longer have deep conversations with your dear husband.
Jiang Xia: "?"
You finally have no sons left.
Hearing both mothers say that, Xia Diandian immediately became worried.
"If he's sleepy, he should close his eyes and go to sleep. Don't force yourself to stay awake. He'll be fine without you watching over him." Jiang Xia gently brushed aside the slightly messy strands of hair from your forehead.
Because of the anesthesia, Pei Yechun still had little strength. Pei Ye quickly raised the back of the hospital bed so that his wife could see the son she had just given birth to.
You glanced at your husband again, a maternal glow spreading across your face. You raised your hand and gently stroked the baby's face, your eyes slightly moist, and exclaimed, "Husband, you're finally childless."
"Do you need to go to the toilet?"
Only those who have been pregnant know how difficult it is to carry a big belly every day.
"Is this hunger?"
Jiang Xia smiled faintly, tilted the headboard back to flatten the bed, squeezed his wife's soft yet strong hand, and then carelessly tucked the blankets away.
As for the fathers, they booked two small rooms outside a hotel far from the hospital. There was no emergency situation, and we were close to the hospital.
"Is he tired too?"
God.
In both this life and the next, the two of them put in far too little effort for that child.
I'm really torn.
Even though you are essentially an eighty-year-old reborn being, this is your first time giving birth.
Inside the ward, the moon was bright and the stars were few; outside the ward, only the couple remained.
“Yes, he’s a mother now, and you’ll be a bad father too,” Pei Ye remarked.
The young couple were talking quietly, while the two elderly mothers stood beside them, too embarrassed to interrupt. They turned their heads to look at the nurse cleaning the crying baby, and wondered if it was right to look at the baby directly without considering the mothers' feelings.
"Ugly and nasty," you muttered loudly.
"Yes, I want to."
I'm completely baffled. I can only say I'm ashamed to be called a mother. She's gone to great lengths to ruin her own son's life.
Jiang Xia fed Xia Diandian spoonful by spoonful, and after eating some chicken, Xia Diandian immediately felt much stronger.
Looking up at the men again, they become more and more pleasing to the eye.
Listening to his wife's peaceful breathing, Jiang Xia smiled slightly, walked heavily to the side of his sleeping husband, rested his chin on his hand and quietly looked at him, feeling that he couldn't keep looking at him like that forever.
"Hmm... I feel much better now. It was quite painful during childbirth, but after giving birth, without that big burden in my belly, it's actually much more comfortable."
"How come you're not as tired as him? Go to sleep, sweetie."
Jiang Xia glanced at the time. It had been less than a year since his wife gave birth. The effects of the pain-relieving injections hadn't worn off yet, so it was probably too late to stop her eating.
I opened the lid of the clay pot, and the chicken soup was still steaming. Jiang Xia took a sip and the temperature was just right. The aroma of red dates and goji berries blended perfectly with the flavor of the medicinal chicken soup. After taking a sip, I felt warm all over.
You glanced at the man sleeping soundly in your arms, closed your eyes, and slowly felt a wave of weariness wash over you.
Jiang Xia nodded, and then followed the nurse to push the hospital bed from the delivery room to the ward where Xia Diandian had stayed.
Xia Shanshan chimed in, nodding repeatedly: "You're wrong, you're wrong. Look at that delicate appearance, she'll grow up to be a little beauty."
I couldn't help but joke, "You didn't have the chance before, so why are you being so slow?"
"Yes, he's worried, Mom," I replied as I came up.
The two elderly fathers also gathered around, showing concern and care for their daughters-in-law or sons.
"No order."
"Okay, goodnight, honey."
Xia Shanshan chuckled: "All newborn babies look like that. Xia Xia was much uglier than that at this age. You can't believe that such a thing could have been born. You almost didn't recognize her."
