Chapter 423 President Xi’s Plan
"I know."
Qi Moxun held her hand, and the warmth of his palm dispelled some of the coldness.
"Send someone to pick up Xunxun to play tomorrow. You can come too. I'll be there after I finish taking care of this."
Shen Hanxing shook her head: “I’m worried about you.”
Qi Moxun smiled, and the fatigue in his eyes was replaced by tenderness: "Don't worry, I won't give her the chance to hurt you and Xunxun."
The wind outside the window blew the fallen leaves against the glass, as if someone was peeping in the dark.
Chen Hanxing looked at the dark night outside the window, always feeling that something was lurking in the dark, ready to pounce out and bite off their tense nerves at any time.
She didn't want to distract Qi Moxun, so she could only nod.
…
The next morning, Shen Hanxing received an anonymous package in the guard room. The packaging was simple, with only a photo and a note inside.
The photo shows Qi Moxun and a strange woman drinking in a bar. The two are very close to each other, with the woman's hand on Qi Moxun's shoulder, and their posture is intimate.
There was only one line of words on the note: There are some things that you can't avoid just because you want to.
Shen Hanxing's fingers pinched the edge of the photo, and her knuckles turned white.
She knew the woman, a new project assistant at Qi Moxun's company. She had met her at the company's annual meeting a few days ago.
She knew that Qi Moxun was not someone who would easily cross the line, but the scene in the photo was too glaring, like a thin needle, gently piercing the calm she tried hard to maintain.
When she got home, she hid the photo in a dresser drawer under an old photo album.
The album contained a photo of her and Qi Moxun. In the photo, both of them were smiling with their eyes curved. The sunshine at that time was warm enough to melt the ice and snow.
She stared at the photo for a long time until her cell phone rang. It was her assistant saying that Xunxun suddenly had a fever and asked her to come over quickly.
When we arrived at the hospital, Xunxun was lying on the table crying, her little face flushed red.
I took my temperature and found it was 39 degrees.
Chen Hanxing picked up Xunxun, his eyes red with heartache.
The child mumbled in her arms, "Mom, did I do something wrong? Does Aunt Lingcui not want me anymore?"
Shen Hanxing's heart seemed to be tightened. She patted the child's back to comfort him: "No, Xunxun is the best. Aunt Lingcui is just busy and will come to see you soon."
While in the emergency room of the hospital, she met Han Lingcui.
The other person was holding a document in his hand. Seeing her holding Xunxun, he hurried forward and asked, "What's going on? What happened to Xunxun?"
"I have a fever. I just took my temperature and it's 39.5 degrees."
Shen Hanxing's voice was filled with tears, "The doctor said it might be a viral infection and I need to be hospitalized for observation."
Han Lingcui stuffed the documents into his bag, took Xunxun and held him in his arms: "You go and handle the paperwork first, I'll stay here with him."
Xunxun nuzzled herself into Han Lingcui's arms and whispered, "Aunt Lingcui, I didn't lie to you. I'm really sick."
"Auntie knows that Xunxun is the bravest."
Han Lingcui touched his forehead, her eyes red with heartache, "When you recover, I'll take you to fly a kite, the biggest one."
Shen Hanxing looked at the scene of them getting along, and the haze in his heart caused by the photo suddenly dissipated.
She turned around to go through the admission procedures. When she passed the corner of the corridor, she saw a man in a white coat talking in a low voice on his cell phone.
"Don't worry, the medicine has been added. There's no danger to their life. It'll just be a few days of fever, which will make them confused for a while."
Shen Hanxing paused.
She quietly retreated behind a pillar and watched the man hang up the phone and quickly walk into the doctor's office.
She remembered that this person was not among the doctors who had examined Xunxun. A chill ran down her spine. She took out her cell phone to call Qi Moxun, but her fingers were shaking with nervousness.
Qi Moxun was in the middle of a board meeting when he received the call. Upon hearing Shen Hanxing's words, he immediately suspended the meeting.
"I'll be right there. Don't alarm anyone. Wait until I get there."
Half an hour later, Qi Moxun rushed to the hospital with his bodyguards.
He asked bodyguards to guard all the exits of the inpatient department, while he and Shen Hanxing went to find the mysterious doctor.
But when they rushed into the doctor's office, it was empty.
Before he could take the white coat off the table, a business card fell out of his pocket with "Dr. Li from Private Hospital" printed on it.
"It's Xi Muxuan's people."
Qi Moxun held the business card in his hand, his eyes as cold as ice. "She wants to use Xunxun to force us to lose our composure."
Chen Hanxing leaned against the wall, his face pale: "How could she be so cruel? Xunxun is still a child..."
"She never had a heart."
Qi Moxun hugged her and said, "Don't worry, I have asked someone to check the background of this Doctor Li. I will definitely find some clues."
In the ward, Han Lingcui was telling a story to Xunxun. The child was delirious with fever, but still held her hand tightly.
Qi Moxun and Shen Hanxing walked in and saw this scene, feeling uncomfortable.
Han Lingcui looked up and saw them, and asked softly, "Did you find out anything?"
Qi Moxun nodded: "It was Xi Muxuan who did it. She wanted to distract us."
Han Lingcui's face darkened: "I'll go find her!"
"Don't go." Qi Moxun stopped her, "She just wants to make us lose our composure. We can't fall into her trap."
Shen Hanxing walked to the bedside and touched Xunxun's forehead: "The fever seems to have subsided a little."
"The doctor just came in and said the fever-reducing medicine is working." Han Lingcui stood up. "You guys stay here with him. I'll go get some food."
She walked out of the ward and just as she reached the end of the corridor, she saw a familiar figure.
Xi Muxuan, wearing a red dress, stood at the elevator entrance and smiled at her: "Long time no see, Miss Han."
Han Lingcui clenched his fists. "You did it? Don't you think it's too much to attack a child?"
"Excessive?"
Xi Muxuan raised her eyebrows. "Compared to you taking my things, this is nothing."
She took a step closer and lowered her voice, "Do you think Qi Moxun really believes you? He just wants to use you to stabilize Xunxun. When this is over, you will still be kicked out."
"I don't need you to sow discord between us." Han Lingcui turned to leave, but Xi Muxuan grabbed her wrist.
"Don't be in such a hurry to leave."
Xi Muxuan took out a USB drive from her bag and said, "Here's something I think you might be interested in."
Han Lingcui looked at the USB drive and hesitated for a moment. Xi Muxuan put the USB drive in her hand.
"Let's see how strong the relationship between Qi Moxun and Shen Hanxing is."
The elevator door opened, Xi Muxuan walked in, and waved to Han Lingcui: "See you next time."
Han Lingcui stood there holding the cold USB drive, feeling like something was blocking his heart.
She didn't know whether she should believe Xi Muxuan's words, but the seed of doubt in her heart quietly sprouted.
When I returned to the ward, Qi Moxun was on the phone, his tone serious: "We must find Dr. Li. We must see him alive or his body."
After hanging up the phone, he saw the USB flash drive in Han Lingcui's hand and frowned: "What is this?"
Han Lingcui hid the USB drive behind her back: "Nothing, I found it on the road."
