Chapter 448: Just Want to Please My Son
"Will you teach me next time?" Xuanyuan Ge's voice was filled with a barely perceptible expectation.
Xunxun hesitated for a moment, then nodded: "If you want to learn."
The street lights in the park were on, casting dim light on the path.
Xuanyuan Ge walked in front, Xunxun followed behind, keeping a distance of two steps.
When passing by the flower bed, Xunxun suddenly stopped and squatted down to look at a snail.
"It crawls so slowly," he said.
“But it keeps creeping forward.”
Xuanyuan Ge also squatted down and watched the snail slowly crawling across a leaf.
"Mom said it's okay to take it slow, as long as you're heading in the right direction."
Xunxun stretched out her finger and gently touched the snail's shell. "It's just like me learning to tie my shoelaces. It took me a week to learn it."
Xuanyuan Ge recalled that when he was a child, his father taught him how to tie his shoelaces. After teaching him only twice, he became impatient and said that children of the Xuanyuan family should not be so stupid.
He hid in the cloakroom and cried for a long time that day, until the housekeeper sneaked in and demonstrated it to him ten times with a red rope, and he finally learned it.
"You learn very quickly." Xuanyuan Ge said.
Xunxun raised her head, glanced at him, and suddenly said, "Uncle Xuanyuan, you are so outstanding. You must have been very good when you were a child, right?"
"Not really, but now, I know a lot of things. If you want to learn, I can..." Xuanyuan Ge's heart skipped a beat.
"No."
Xunxun shook her head. "Dad takes me to read picture books every day. I can learn a lot from him!"
He stood up and patted the dirt off his hands. "Let's go, it's time to go home."
Xuanyuan Pavilion: “…”
Is he really not as good as Qi Moxun?
When we reached the park entrance, Xuanyuan Pavilion's car was parked on the side of the road.
The driver wanted to get out of the car and open the door, but was stopped by him.
"I can do it myself."
He opened the back door and wanted Xunxun to get in, but the child shook his head.
"That's a bit bad," he said. "Mom said children should wear safety seats in the back seat, but your car doesn't have one."
Xuanyuan Ge was stunned.
He had never had a child safety seat installed in his car, and this was the first time someone had reminded him of it.
"I'll install it next time," he said.
Xunxun didn't respond. She opened the car door and got in, not forgetting to put her schoolbag on her lap and fasten her seat belt.
The movements were done in one go, as if they had been rehearsed many times.
The car drove very slowly. Xuanyuan Pavilion deliberately avoided the main road and took a longer route.
The street lights cast flickering shadows on the car window. Xunxun leaned back in the chair, looked at the shadows of the trees passing by outside the window, and suddenly said.
"The trees here aren't as pretty as the ones in our neighborhood. Mom planted a lot of hydrangeas, and they're blooming now."
"Really?" Xuanyuan Ge tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "Can you go take a look when you have time?"
Xunxun turned her head and looked at him seriously: "Mom said that only friends are welcome in our yard."
Xuanyuan Ge's Adam's apple rolled. "Can I be your friend?"
He asked, his voice so low as if afraid of being blown away by the wind.
The child was silent for a long time, so long that Xuanyuan Pavilion thought he would not answer. Then he heard him say, "Mom said that you have to make friends slowly."
When the car turned into the residential complex where Shen Hanxing lived, the security guard saluted them.
Xuanyuan Ge parked the car downstairs and watched Xunxun unbuckle her seat belt and pick up her schoolbag.
"Go up," he said.
Xunxun didn't move, just looked at him and suddenly asked.
"Uncle Xuanyuan, why do you suddenly want to play with me?"
Xuanyuan Ge was stunned.
He wanted to say that it was because you were his son, that dad owed him too much, and that he wanted to make it up to him, but when the words came to his lips, they only became a sentence.
"Because... I wanted to see if you were doing well."
"I'm doing fine."
Xunxun's voice was very serious. "Mom makes me strawberry jam sandwiches every day, Aunt Han teaches me how to draw, and Dad Qi takes us fishing on weekends."
He paused, his small hands tightly gripping the straps of his schoolbag. "We're all fine, we don't need any help."
Xuanyuan Ge's fingertips turned white.
He knew who Xunxun was referring to as "someone else".
Over the years, he was used to solving problems with power and money, but for the first time he discovered that some things could not be bought with money.
For example, the trust in the child's eyes, and the time he was absent from but was filled by Qi Moxun...
"I see."
He took a deep breath and tried to sound calm.
"Well... can we play together sometimes in the future? Like today, do pottery, go to the park."
Xunxun lowered her head and looked at her shoes.
They were a pair of blue sneakers with a small Ultraman logo on the upper. It was a birthday gift from Qi Moxun to him.
He raised his head, his eyes sparkling but with unquestionable determination.
"Uncle Xuanyuan, thank you for taking me out to play today, but I still want to be with my mother."
"I see."
Xuanyuan Ge turned his head and looked out the window.
The lights were on on the balcony of Shen Hanxing's house, and the shadow of a little rabbit was printed on the curtains, probably Xunxun's favorite doll.
Xunxun opened the car door, jumped out, turned around and waved at him: "Goodbye, Uncle Xuanyuan."
"Goodbye, Xunxun."
Xuanyuan Ge looked at his back. The small figure ran across the lawn, and the dinosaur tail on the schoolbag bounced up and down.
Shen Hanxing probably heard the sound, opened the door, and stood at the door waiting for him.
She was wearing a beige sweater and holding Xunxun's favorite rabbit doll in her arms.
When she saw Xunxun, she bent down and touched his head, then raised her head and glanced at Xuanyuan Pavilion's car, her eyes calm but with clear boundaries.
Xunxun ran into Shen Hanxing's arms, turned her head, and glanced in the direction of the car window.
Xuanyuan Ge waved at him, but the child quickly turned around and followed Shen Hanxing into the corridor.
The light in the corridor flickered on and then dimmed, like a star blown out by the wind.
When the car drove out of the community, Xuanyuan Ge realized that his heart was full of resentment.
He suddenly remembered what Xunxun said in the park, that sunflowers are afraid of the dark, so they follow the sun.
What about him?
Over the years he has been chasing power and wealth, thinking that is the sun.
But it wasn't until today that he realized that what he really wanted was to be like this, looking at the lighted window and knowing that there was a child sleeping peacefully inside.
Even if the light is not on for him.
The street lights outside the car window formed a strip of light, like a road with no end.
Xuanyuan Ge held the steering wheel and drove slowly forward.
In fact, it is not without gain.
At least, today he knew that Xunxun liked making pottery, liked eating sunflower-shaped sugar paintings, would feel sad when sugar paintings were broken, and would take care of others like a little adult.
These small, real moments make him feel more at ease than any board resolution.
He pulled out his phone and sent a message to his assistant: "Have someone install a safety seat in the car tomorrow."
Then he added, "Order another set of pottery tools, especially for children."
