Chapter 498 Found the key

Chapter 498 Found the key

Han Lingcui stood in front of the Xuanyuan Group's office building and raised his hand to adjust his collar.

She was wearing the most ordinary beige shirt today, with her cuffs buttoned up to the top, and her hair tied into a neat low ponytail, looking just like the "down-to-earth and obedient" newcomer when she first joined the company.

I spent half the night in front of the mirror practicing a "confused" expression, and now I remember Xuanyuan Pavilion's advice.

I couldn't help but clench the photo in my pocket with my fingertips. The sharp edges of the photo rubbed against my palm, like a silent reminder.

The elevator stopped on the 18th floor, and the door opened to Jiang Shutong's office area. The secretary saw her and greeted her with a smile.

"Sister Han, Mr. Jiang is waiting for you inside. He specially asked me to make Pu'er tea."

Han Lingcui nodded in response, slowed down his pace, and glanced at the cubicles in the office area.

No one dared to look up, only the sounds of keyboards came one after another, revealing a depressing silence.

"Come in." Jiang Shutong's voice came from the office. Through the frosted glass, her figure could be seen sitting in front of the tea table.

When Han Lingcui opened the door, she saw Jiang Shutong using a tea needle to pry the tea cake apart slowly, and her eyes curved into a gentle arc when she smiled.

"Lingcui, sit down. I told you yesterday that there was something going on with Shen Hanxing, so I specially sorted out the information today."

The tea table was made of dark rosewood, with a set of white porcelain tea sets on it. Jiang Shutong poured her a cup of tea. The tea soup was red and thick, and the hot steam wafted over with a mellow fragrance.

Han Lingcui took the cup with both hands, and when his fingertips touched the temperature of the cup wall, he felt it was even colder than the wind from the back mountain yesterday.

"Thank you, Mr. Jiang. Thank you for your help."

"Why are you being so polite to me?"

Jiang Shutong put down the teapot and took out a brown paper file bag from the drawer, but instead of handing it over directly, she tapped the bag with her fingers.

"My people followed her for two days and saw him go to a paternity testing agency and even ask someone to find an old birth certificate. Do you know what he was going to do?"

Han Lingcui's heart skipped a beat, but confusion remained on his face.

"A paternity test? With whom?"

"Who else can I talk to?" Jiang Shutong frowned, her tone filled with a hint of anxiety as if she was worried about her.

"She has a child named Xunxun, about five or six years old. This time they're doing a paternity test just to falsify the report and prove that the child is yours!"

"Mine?" Han Lingcui looked up suddenly, and a few drops of tea in the cup spilled onto his hand without him noticing.

"Don't disbelieve it."

Seeing her reaction, Jiang Shutong's tone became even more serious: "Chen Hanxing knows that you are investigating him, and she is afraid that you will really find something to hold against her. Using the child to tie you down and make you soft-hearted is the easiest way she can think of!"

"Lingcui, you have to be careful and don't be fooled."

Han Lingcui lowered his head and watched the tea leaves sinking to the bottom of the cup like a tangled mass of threads.

She deliberately looked a little flustered and scratched the edge of the cup with her fingers.

"I...I understand. Thank you, Mr. Jiang, for reminding me. Then...the information?"

Seeing her like this, Jiang Shutong's eyes flashed with a barely perceptible relief, and she pushed the file bag in front of her.

“This contains the recent records of Shen Hanxing’s dealings with the paternity testing agency. Take a look at it first.”

"Don't rush to give me the results. Take your time to investigate. You're now working at the Qi Group, under her watchful eyes. She can investigate thoroughly, but it's also dangerous. You have to be careful."

"Okay." Han Lingcui put the file bag into his bag.

She clenched her phone, looked up and smiled at Jiang Shutong, with a hint of timidity as if she was "frightened".

"Then Mr. Jiang, I'll go back and look at the information first. I'll report back to you if there's anything."

"Go ahead."

Jiang Shutong waved her hand and lowered her head to pry up the tea cake, as if what she had just said was just an insignificant matter.

Han Lingcui walked out of the office slowly, and only breathed a sigh of relief when he got into the elevator.

She was the only one in the elevator. Her face was reflected in the mirror. Her complexion was pale, but her eyes were clear.

Jiang Shutong's words were half true and half false, but the two words "paternity test" and "search" pierced her heart like nails.

She took out her cell phone and wanted to send a message to Xuanyuan Pavilion, but her finger paused as it hovered over the screen.

If this is Jiang Shutong's test, will she be targeted if she contacts Xuanyuan Pavilion now?

The elevator reached the first floor, and Han Lingcui followed the crowd out of the office building. Instead of taking a taxi directly, he walked into the alley next to it.

That was a shortcut to the subway station, and it was also the "backup route" she had discussed with Xuanyuan Pavilion last night.

She walked to the alley entrance and deliberately stopped in front of a stall selling soy milk. She pretended to pay for the soy milk, but her eyes were fixed on the gate of the office building.

About ten minutes later, Jiang Shutong's car drove out.

It wasn't the black sedan she usually rode in, but a nondescript grey SUV.

Han Lingcui had an idea, paid the money, and followed with the soy milk.

The SUV finally stopped in front of a cafe in the old town.

The storefront is very small and the paint on the sign has fallen off in some places. It is called "Old Time Cafe".

Jiang Shutong got out of the car, without wearing glasses, changed into a dark windbreaker, buried her head in the collar, and walked in quickly.

Han Lingcui hid behind the newsstand opposite, took out a hat from her bag and put it on, then pulled up her mask to make sure no one was paying attention to her before slowly moving to the window of the cafe.

The windows were frosted, and only the silhouettes of people inside could be seen.

Jiang Shutong was sitting by the window. Opposite her sat a person with long, burgundy hair. He was raising his hand and saying something to Jiang Shutong in an excited manner.

Han Lingcui took out his cell phone, switched it to video mode, and held it against the glass to take a picture.

Although I couldn't hear the sound, I could see the expressions of the two people.

Jiang Shutong frowned and tapped her fingers on the table rapidly, as if she was angry.

The woman opposite was even more excited. She slammed the table so hard that her coffee cup shook. She pointed at Jiang Shutong, her face flushed red, and she shouted something.

About twenty minutes later, the woman suddenly stood up, grabbed her bag and walked out. When she passed by the window, Han Lingcui saw her face clearly!

She had heavy makeup on, her eyes were upturned, and she had a fierce arrogance. When she left, she glared fiercely at the people in the cafe, as if she had suffered a great injustice.

Two minutes later, Jiang Shutong also came out with a very ugly look on her face.

He took out his cell phone and made a call in a very aggressive tone. After hanging up, he kicked a stone on the side of the road hard before getting in the car and leaving.

Han Lingcui waited until the SUV drove away before walking out from behind the newsstand.

She walked into the cafe. The seats where the two of them had sat had not been cleared yet. There were two empty coffee cups on the table, one of which had a lipstick mark on the rim, and a few drops of coffee stains on the tablecloth. It was obvious that they had just had a fierce argument.

She asked the waiter for a glass of warm water and pretended to be waiting for someone, but in fact she was using her mobile phone to check the woman's information.

Soon, a photo of that woman appeared on the Internet—Xi Muxuan!
