After Huo Chenyu's gaze shifted from confusion and shock to disbelief, he lowered his head and asked:
"When did you start to doubt Uncle Sheng?"
That's a very strange question.
Tang Li was somewhat surprised:
"I thought you would ask me when I learned about your background."
Huo Chenyu looked into her eyes:
"I know you too well; you would never do anything nonsensical."
Tang Li smiled bitterly:
"But this is a ridiculous thing. Do you remember that time in Lucheng? When I first met Song Boying, he mistook you for Fourth Brother and thought you were Uncle Sheng's son. From that moment on, I had a very bold and ridiculous idea."
Lucheng.
Huo Chenyu thought for a moment:
"Just because of one sentence he said?"
Tang Li scratched his head awkwardly:
“I know it’s unbelievable, but it’s just a professional habit of mine. I always felt that he couldn’t have said you two looked alike for no reason. Before the competition with Han Ruoling, I almost mistook your back view for Uncle Sheng’s. I showed you a photo of Uncle Sheng when he was young. You might not be able to tell anything from his face because the camera resolution wasn’t high back then, but look at Uncle Sheng’s profile and back view. He really looks a lot like you.”
Tang Li kept all those photos on her phone.
When he took them out and pointed to Huo Chenyu one by one, he immediately saw the group photo.
Only when he saw Xi Haitang and Sheng Chaosheng in the same photo did Huo Chenyu dare to believe that what Tang Li said was true.
Perhaps he needed time to process this fact; Huo Chenyu stared at the photo for a long time without saying a word.
Tang Li tried to say something several times, but choked up each time.
Until Huo Chenyu asked:
"Then why won't he acknowledge me?"
It's not that he refuses to acknowledge you.
He didn't even know you existed.
But how should I put this?
Tang Li looked very troubled, repeatedly revising her words in her mind. Seeing this, Huo Chenyu suddenly burst out laughing:
Do you think I'm blaming him? Is that why you don't know how to speak up for him?
Tang Li's expression was complicated. Huo Chenyu then said:
"Don't worry, my expectation is that I will never find my biological father in this lifetime, but what does it matter? If he doesn't need me to support him in his old age, or to be by his side to fulfill my filial duties, then why should I interfere in his originally peaceful life?"
Um?
Tang Li made countless assumptions.
I never expected him to be so... understanding.
"Don't you have any of your own emotions involved?"
Tang Li was afraid that he was pretending to be indifferent, so she comforted him:
"It's okay, I understand you're upset, after all..."
Huo Chenyu grabbed her hand instead:
"Lili, do you want to hear the truth?"
Of course I want to.
Tang Li nodded:
"Nobody wants to hear lies, right?"
Huo Chenyu pondered for a moment:
“I knew long ago that I was not a member of the Huo family. At that time, I never thought about looking for my biological father. I could almost imagine that he must have abandoned us when my mother needed him the most. So it would be a lie to say that I had no resentment.”
"But since losing you, I suddenly realized that we are all trying our best to live the life we want in this world. Just wanting what we want is enough to make us chaotic. Who can care about others?"
"So later I wanted to find him, just to help him as much as possible, if he needed it, in case he had lived a life of hardship and poverty all these years?"
These words immediately amused Tang Li:
"Turns out, your own father is richer than you!"
When this was mentioned, the two of them hugged each other and laughed like idiots.
After laughing, Huo Chenyu cupped Tang Li's face and said:
"Wife, thank you."
Tang Li pouted and asked:
"Thank me for what? I didn't do anything."
Huo Chenyu pecked her little mouth:
"Thank you for everything you've done for me. Although I don't know why Uncle Sheng doesn't acknowledge me, even if I appear in front of him, he still treats me like someone else's child. I also don't know why you can't tell me everything. But I am very content at this moment."
He seems to know everything.
It's as if they know nothing at all.
Tang Li was about to tell the truth when Huo Chenyu cut him off again:
"If you feel that now is not the right time, we have a lifetime to slowly share this secret, there is no need to rush."
He was clearly using a strategy of retreat as a means of advancement.
Tang Li gritted his teeth:
"What I'm about to say might make you angry, sad, or find hard to accept. That's okay. If you really can't suppress your emotions, I can accept your emotional backlash. But please don't say anything until I've finished speaking, okay?"
She was afraid that if Huo Chenyu interrupted her, she wouldn't dare to tell the truth anymore.
Huo Chenyu nodded solemnly:
"good."
From the moment Tang Li opened his mouth to the moment she patted his shoulder and said:
"Alright, you can speak now."
Throughout the entire process, Huo Chenyu maintained a smile.
He showed absolutely no anger, no resentment, and not a trace of negative emotion.
This surprised Tang Li, and she playfully poked him in the chest:
"I've released your pressure points, you can speak now."
Huo Chenyu suddenly cupped her face and kissed her until she was dizzy.
They almost couldn't stop.
Tang Li finally regained her composure and pushed him away:
"Huo Chenyu, say something! How are you feeling right now? Are you sad? Do you hate him?"
