She would naturally avoid such banquets as much as possible.
Not only did Lin Qinghao try every means to refuse to attend, but everyone who had slandered Tang Li that day, including Wang Ning, also tacitly missed the event.
The reasons are varied.
"Lin Qinghao said she was hospitalized due to a mango allergy and can't come."
Wang Ning suffers from menstrual cramps.
"Chen Ting said she had a relapse of depression."
Jingjiu counted on his fingers: "What's even more outrageous is that three other people made up the same lame excuse, saying that their grandmother had suddenly had a heart attack."
Being their grandmother must be really unlucky.
Tang Li smiled faintly:
So what's the truth?
"Hospitalization my foot! Of the three of them, one of them has a grandmother who is still alive, but the old lady lives in the countryside. Today happens to be market day, and she's selling dozens of kilograms of corn at the market with great enthusiasm."
Knowing they wouldn't come, Jingjiu had already investigated them.
"The other two are even more absurd. One's grandmother passed away a few years ago, and the other has never seen what his grandmother looks like since he was born."
These reasons are really nothing new.
"And then there's Wang Ning, she suffers from menstrual cramps, haha, when she gets here, she'll have a hard time."
Tang Li didn't press Tang Li for details, as he had only left half of the conversation in the Beijing-Kowloon dialect.
Seeing that she was becoming more and more like an older sister-in-law, Tang Li enjoyed the feeling of being protected by her own family.
"By the way, didn't Chen Ting say she had a relapse of depression and needed to see a psychologist? Let her see one then, just wait and see the show."
"Also, Lin Qinghao is allergic to mangoes. I recently learned how to make mango pomelo sago milk tea, so she's lucky. I'll definitely make her try my cooking tonight."
But...
"Didn't they all not come?"
Tang Li rested his chin on his hand, looking at Jingjiu with amusement.
Jingjiu smiled smugly. Her eyes, which had been fixed on the doorway, suddenly brightened. She reached out and patted Tang Li's arm:
"Let's go, little sister, we've got work to do."
Tang Li looked up and saw Chen Ting standing at the door, looking somewhat flustered.
He was still holding a phone with the screen lit up, probably checking some information.
Jingjiu led Tang Li over.
"Ms. Chen, didn't you go to see a psychologist? What are you doing here?"
Tang Li almost burst out laughing. This Chen Ting had probably fallen into the trap set by the Beijing-Kowloon Railway.
Chen Ting was startled when he saw Tang Li.
Upon closer inspection of the address the doctor sent on WeChat, it dawned on me.
The doctor made an appointment with her here.
"This is the place I made an appointment with Dr. Zhao."
Fortunately, there was a reservation text message, and Chen Ting answered confidently.
Jingjiu said "oh" twice, then took out his phone and made a call:
"Senior, a patient is looking for you."
Soon, a bespectacled, well-mannered man came out, glanced at his watch, and said to Chen Ting:
"We agreed to meet at 10 p.m., but it's only 7 p.m. now."
Is it 10 o'clock?
"Dr. Zhao, our appointment is at 7 p.m.
Chen Ting specifically asked a friend to help introduce her to Dr. Zhao tonight in order to avoid the banquet time.
Dr. Zhao said with a smile:
"It seems that Ms. Chen's depression is still quite severe. You asked me if I had time at 7 p.m.? My answer to you is that I happen to be in this building at 7 p.m., but I won't have time until 10 p.m.."
Chen Ting carefully reviewed the text message and realized that it was indeed his oversight.
She glanced at Tang Li somewhat timidly:
"Since Dr. Zhao is not available now, I will come back at 10 p.m.
Jingjiu warmly took Chen Ting's arm:
"Oh, since you're already here, why not stay for the dinner party? Maybe you'll make some new friends and your illness will be cured on its own."
Tang Li also chimed in at the opportune moment:
"I don't know much about mental health, but I've heard it said that spending half an hour with a friend is equivalent to seeing a psychologist six times."
Dr. Zhao nodded in agreement:
"Ms. Tang is right. People's lives are too fast-paced nowadays, and many people's emotional breakdowns are caused by loneliness. Ms. Chen might as well stay and spend more time with friends, which will be good for your depression."
What else could Chen Ting say?
She wasn't sick at all.
Now that they've fallen into another trap, getting out won't be so easy.
Taking advantage of the fact that Jingjiu and Tang Li were still relatively polite to her, she wisely stayed:
"Then I'll go get some snacks first. I was afraid of being late, so I didn't even have time to eat a meal when I came."
Jingjiu released her arm and stepped aside:
"Miss Chen, please come in."
After Chen Ting went inside, Dr. Zhao also went to the main venue. Tang Li crossed his arms and looked at the Jingjiu Stadium.
"Why do I get the feeling that what you did today was a bit like catching a turtle in a jar?"
Jingjiu reached out and pinched her cheek:
"You're right, my trick is called 'catching a turtle in a jar'."
Tang Li reminded her:
"Don't forget, offending them isn't a big deal, but they each have a family behind them. Aren't you afraid of causing trouble for your family's business?"
Beijing-Kowloon Railway:
“I used to treat you as a friend, and it was inappropriate for me to interfere too much in some things, but things are different now. Now, if anyone dares to bully you, I, Jingjiu, will be the first to object.”
Tang Li teased her on purpose:
"Then tell me, how is it different now?"
Jingjiu cried out and pushed her away:
"You know perfectly well why you're asking, Tang Li. Let me tell you the truth: I've taken a liking to your brother. And it's not just a casual fling. I really want to get married, have children, and grow old with the person I love."
