Chapter 154 Pretending, Whitewashing the Truth

"Is Mr. Leng trying to lie to me again?"

"I'm not lying to you this time," Leng Linli replied with a faint smile.

Yan Zhi wanted to pull her hand away, but upon hearing Leng Lin's harsh words, she looked downstairs and saw that her grandmother was indeed watching them.

Recalling the standoff between her and Leng Linli at the hospital yesterday, Yan Zhi stopped what she was doing and grasped Leng Linli's hand in return.

"That way, Grandma can rest assured," Yan Zhi thought.

Feeling Yan Zhihui grasp his hand, Leng Linli instantly felt a surge of pleasure, his lips curving upwards involuntarily, and he gripped Yan Zhihui's hand even tighter.

The two walked downstairs side by side, and Yan Zhi greeted her with a smile, "Good morning, Grandma."

"It's rare to have breakfast with Grandma, please sit down." Grandma Leng took Yan Zhi's hand.

Yan Zhi sat down and took the opportunity to pull her hand away from Leng Linli's grasp.

Leng Linli felt Yan Zhi's strength and his brows twitched slightly. He had only been holding her hand for a short while!

Although reluctant, he still let her go.

"Honey, could you please pick up a xiaolongbao for me?" Yan Zhi looked at Leng Linli with a smile in her eyes.

Leng Linli remained calm and accommodating, readily granting Yan Zhi's request and placing a bowl of brown sugar water with eggs in front of her.

"Thank you, honey." Yan Zhi smiled, munching on a xiaolongbao (soup dumpling).

Leng Linli looked at Yan Zhi quietly for two seconds, then brought his lips close to her ear and whispered in a voice that the two of them could hear, "It's a bit deliberate."

After understanding Leng Linli's meaning, Yan Zhi paused in her eating of xiaolongbao, and after a moment, she returned the favor in the same way, with a bright smile: "I learned it from President Leng too."

Upon hearing this, Leng Linli's eyes flashed with a complex emotion, and he smiled helplessly.

His motives were different from hers.

He doesn't need to pretend; if he doesn't want to, no one can force him.

He took her hand simply because he wanted to hold her hand.

That's all.

...Just like why he got the marriage certificate first and then confronted her later, it was because he was willing to get the certificate with her, even though he knew she had deceived him, he still wanted to get the certificate with her.

Actually, Leng Linli had another selfish reason: now that they were married, even if Yan Zhi wanted to leave, the marriage certificate would bind them together, and she wouldn't be able to leave anytime soon.

Leng Linli casually picked up another small steamed bun and placed it in Yan Zhi's bowl, his eyes full of tenderness: "Have another one."

"Thank you, honey." Yan Zhi smiled sweetly, continued to eat her xiaolongbao, and handed a boiled egg to Leng Linli.

Leng Linli looked at the boiled egg Yan Zhi had given him, and after a few seconds, he slammed it on the table and began to peel the shell with his slender fingers.

After peeling the egg, Leng Linli placed the egg in Yan Zhi's bowl and picked up a napkin to wipe his hands.

Yan Zhi stared blankly at the smooth, jade-like egg that had suddenly appeared in the bowl... Leng Linli had misunderstood. She gave Leng Linli the egg so that he could eat it, not so that he could help her peel it.

If she needs Leng Linli to peel an egg for her, then she's being far too fussy, and it would be a waste of Leng Linli's talent.

Yan Zhi handed the egg to Leng Linli: "It's for you to eat."

Upon hearing Yan Zhi's words, Leng Linli paused slightly in wiping his hands, a glint of light flashing in his eyes, and the corners of his mouth gradually turned up.

Secretly pleased.

Since the night they got their marriage certificate, Yan Zhi hasn't cared about him for a long time.

Suppressing the involuntary upward curve of his lips, Leng Linli took a bite of the egg from Yan Zhi's hand, chewed it slowly, and then looked up at Yan Zhi: "It tastes good."

Then, using Yan Zhi's hand, he ate the remaining half of the egg.

Yan Zhi was caught off guard. Leng Linli didn't even pick up the egg; he just ate it from her hand.

They're so used to being waited on hand and foot...

Yan Zhi calmly withdrew her hand, pretending nothing had happened, and continued to eat the xiaolongbao, one bite after another.

Yan Zhi's lack of refusal brought a surge of pleasure to Leng Linli's heart.

Grandma looked at her beloved grandson with a puzzled expression and asked, "Didn't you dislike eating eggs when you were little?"

Grandma's words made Yan Zhi pause for a moment. Doesn't Leng Linli like to eat eggs?

But before the two of them confronted each other, he ate all the tea eggs, poached eggs, and boiled eggs she bought for Leng Linli.

Doesn't he...like eating it?

Perhaps Leng Linli wasn't hungry when he was a child. When a person is really starving, there's nothing they can't eat. After all, being alive is the most important thing.

“You can eat it too,” Leng Linli replied gently, his tone casual.

Grandma Leng looked at her eldest grandson, who seemed worthless, then glanced at her granddaughter-in-law, and smiled with sudden realization. "So that's how it is."

Yan Zhi didn't understand her grandmother's sense of humor, so she didn't say anything and continued to eat her xiaolongbao.

Grandma Leng was overjoyed to see her grandson and granddaughter-in-law interacting. She had been worried that they would quarrel over contraception, but now it seemed that she had worried too much.

Yan Zhi didn't know what made her grandmother happy, but she knew what made Leng Linli happy. Her grandmother's happiness put Leng Linli at ease.

Getting along well with Leng Linli would make Grandma happy, and Yan Zhi was willing to cooperate. Anyway, there were only a few days left, so she pretended to be at peace.

"Zhizhi, Grandma wants to eat the hot pot you cook," Grandma Leng said with a smile.

Yan Zhi smiled sweetly and said, "Okay, I'll go to the supermarket to buy groceries later."

Grandma Leng held Yan Zhi's hand and smiled kindly: "Let's go together."

Turning to Leng Linli, she asked, "You don't have any work scheduled for today, do you?"

"No," Leng Linli replied indifferently.

"Then take me and Zhizhi to the supermarket and pick up the groceries while you're at it," Grandma Leng instructed.

Yan Zhi glanced at Leng Linli and thought it was unlikely.

Yan Zhi couldn't imagine having Leng Linli carry the groceries.

With Leng Linli not around, Yan Zhi felt a bit more at ease. Thinking of this, Yan Zhi came to Leng Linli's rescue: "Grandma, I can carry the groceries."

A cold, sharp voice came through: "Fine."

Yan Zhi was stunned. He actually agreed?

Grandma Leng laughed even more heartily. Although her grandson seemed aloof, he was exceptionally filial. Raising Leng Linli into the person he was today was a great success in her life.

Grandma Leng patted Yan Zhi's hand and instructed, "In the Leng family, women are here to enjoy themselves; physical labor is left to the men."

In the supermarket.

After walking around for a while, Grandma Leng said, "I haven't walked far, and my old leg pain has flared up again. You two go ahead and buy groceries. I'll wait for you at the exit."

As she spoke, Grandma Leng found a place to sit down and rest.

Yan Zhi looked at her grandmother, then at Leng Linli, her eyes full of worry: "Why don't you take Grandma to the hospital? I'll go buy the groceries myself."

"Grandma's fine, Grandma just needs a few minutes of rest," Grandma Leng said with a smile, her eyes full of love.

Grandma Leng glanced at Leng Linli, winked at him, and gave him a look of disdain, as if he were an incorrigible child: "What are you standing there for? Go buy groceries with your wife."

Leng Linli and Yan Zhi exchanged a glance and realized that their grandmother was faking it, her purpose being to create an opportunity for them to be alone.

Yan Zhi didn't expose the old woman and nodded, "Grandma, then you wait for us here, we'll be out soon."
