Chapter 157 Recording

Yan Zhi also saw Bai Lian's name on Leng Linli's phone screen.

Stepping aside automatically, Yan Zhi smiled and gestured, "I'll go buy groceries first."

She had absolutely no intention of interfering with Leng Linli's phone call.

Leng Linli watched as Yan Zhi took the initiative to distance herself. This sensible sense of propriety drove him crazy. He grabbed Yan Zhi's wrist, his eyes deep: "There's nothing you can't hear."

Yan Zhi looked at Leng Linli, a faint smile slowly curving her lips, her eyes clear: "You answer the phone, I'll go buy groceries, that way it'll be faster, Grandma is still waiting outside."

Yan Zhi's smile made Leng Linli feel uncomfortable. She spoke so nicely, as if there were no flaws, but in reality, she just didn't care. In reality, she just wanted to escape.

Leng Linli's brows furrowed tightly, showing no sign of letting go.

"President Leng, please let go." Yan Zhi smiled and spoke softly.

Her smile was bright, her expression gentle, but her eyes were calm as still water, and her tone carried a subtle, almost imperceptible, distance.

His cold and stern expression was stubborn; he refused to let go.

Yan Zhi stopped struggling in vain and could only let him be. She answered the phone with a cold, sharp voice, and Bai Lian's soft voice came through the receiver: "Brother, the doctor said I can be discharged today... Do you have time... to pick me up?"

"No." Leng Linli refused directly, his tone cold and sharp.

Yan Zhi stood to the side, listening to the voice coming through the receiver, and the cold, ruthless rejection... which made her feel somewhat awkward...

"elder brother......"

Bai Lian paused, her voice trembling with tears, "Please come pick me up, okay? About that recording we talked about..."

Yan Zhi really didn't want to continue listening to their private phone call. She didn't have a penchant for prying into other people's secrets. Yan Zhi looked a little embarrassed and tried to lower her voice: "I can actually buy groceries by myself. If Mr. Leng is busy, you can leave. I'll just make up an excuse to tell Grandma later."

Leng Linli's expression changed as he looked at Yan Zhi. His fingers stiffened slightly, and he stared at her, his tone stubborn and hard: "I'm not in a hurry!"

After saying that, he hung up the phone.

As Bai Lian heard the sudden beeping sound from the receiver, her exquisitely made-up face gradually twisted into a ferocious expression.

She just heard Yan Zhi's voice. It must be Yan Zhi playing tricks to prevent Leng Linli from picking her up from the hospital!

Undeterred, Bai Lian dialed the number again, but Leng Linli rejected the call after only one ring.

Bai Lian gripped her phone tightly. "Yan Zhi, you damned bitch!"

Leng Linli looked at Bai Lian's name on his phone screen, feeling somewhat annoyed. He dialed the driver's number: "Go pick up Bai Lian from the hospital."

After hanging up the phone, Leng Linli's expression remained cold and stern. He looked up at Yan Zhi and said, "Now you can go grocery shopping."

"..." Yan Zhi didn't argue anymore, just gave a faint "hmm" and continued picking out vegetables.

Although Leng Linli and Yan Zhi stood side by side, neither of them spoke again. Leng Linli disliked this feeling and felt a tightness in his chest.

I picked out a few more side dishes, grabbed two boxes of beef and ribs, quickly paid the bill, and went to meet up with my grandma.

Back at the old house, Yan Zhi led her grandmother into the living room, where they saw Bai Lian sitting obediently on the sofa.

Yan Zhi paused for a moment, then walked towards the sofa as if nothing had happened, with Leng Linli following behind carrying the groceries.

"Grandma! Brother! Sister-in-law..." Bai Lian's joyful voice came, but when she called out to Yan Zhi, her voice became a little lower.

Leng Linli's face darkened when he saw Bai Lian: "Why are you here?"

For some reason, Leng Linli couldn't help but feel a bit disgusted when he saw Bai Lian.

Perhaps it was because Bai Lian played that recording for him, Leng Linli couldn't quite explain it, but he just felt inexplicably annoyed whenever he saw Bai Lian.

Ignoring Bai Lian, Leng Linli carried large and small bags of ingredients into the kitchen.

"I haven't been home in a long time, so I came to see Grandma today." Bai Lian's voice was full of ingratiating laughter. She affectionately linked her arm with Grandma Leng's and said with a sweet smile, "Grandma, I haven't been to visit you in a long time. How have you been feeling lately?"

"That's good." Grandma Leng smiled faintly.

Grandma Leng had seen a lot in her life and was an elder, so she maintained her dignity and didn't expose Bai Lian.

Ignoring Bai Lian's coquettishness, Grandma Leng pulled Yan Zhi to sit down on the sofa: "Zhizhi, you must be tired after shopping all afternoon, take a rest first."

Bai Lian's expression froze on her face. Grandma Leng's coldness made her feel somewhat embarrassed. She reluctantly forced a smile and said, "I'll go pour my sister-in-law a cup of tea."

When is it necessary to pour tea?

Of course, this applies when there are outsiders present.

Yan Zhi smiled; Bai Lian was subtly implying that she was an outsider.

There's nothing to worry about; in this family, she is indeed an outsider.

Bai Lian made a gesture to pour tea, but then heard, "She can't drink tea."

A cold, sharp voice came from the kitchen, and then the person came out of the kitchen.

"Hmm?" Bai Lian looked at Yan Zhi with a questioning expression, as if to ask: Is that so?

"She can't drink tea during her period, or her stomach will hurt again," Leng Linli said calmly.

Leng Linli's voice was neither warm nor cold, but it sounded extremely harsh to Bai Lian's ears. Someone as aloof and arrogant as Leng Linli actually went to search for things that shouldn't be eaten during menstruation just because Yan Zhi had menstrual cramps.

She grew up with Leng Linli since she was a child, and she had never seen Leng Linli be so considerate of her when she had a headache or fever.

Bai Lian's smile stiffened further, but she still tried to maintain it: "I'm sorry, I don't know... So, what would you like to drink, sister-in-law?"
