Chapter 181 An Unreasonable Request

"Did you secretly switch the cups yesterday when I wasn't looking? Did you deliberately make me get it wrong?" Sang Lishu gritted her teeth.

"So Secretary Sang was in the break room all day yesterday, trying to copy me!" Yan Zhi said with a faint smile, using a statement of certainty.

"Who wants to copy you? Don't make false accusations! I'm just trying to please President Leng and borrowing from him... What, you've patented these teas? Can't I use them?" Sang Lishu was exposed by Yan Zhi's words and tried to make a guilty excuse.

"Oh..." Yan Zhi responded lightly, her gaze falling on the tray, her smile faint, her tone soft and casual: "Judging from Secretary Sang's expression, she must not have pleased President Leng. What a pity!"

"Hmph, don't be so smug!" Sang Lishu snorted coldly, turned around and walked to her workstation. She was furious. She hadn't managed to steal a chicken, but had instead lost the rice!

Yan Zhi watched Sang Lishu's retreating figure, a smile playing on her lips, before continuing to bury herself in her work.

A moment later, the phone at her workstation rang. Yan Zhi picked it up, and a cold, sharp, yet pleasant voice entered her ears through the receiver: "Bring in a drink."

";good.";

Yan Zhi hung up the phone, hesitated for a moment. Leng Linli's exam scope was getting wider and wider. She could bring him a drink, but who knew what he wanted to drink?

While pondering, Yan Zhi inadvertently glanced at the tray on her workstation.

That was what Sang Lishu threw down in a fit of anger.

An idea suddenly popped into Yan Zhi's mind: Why not send in the few glasses of water that Sang Lishu left here?

With that thought in mind, Yan Zhi got up, picked up the tray, and knocked on the cold, imposing door.

Yan Zhi was holding onto a sliver of hope; what if Leng Linli wanted to drink one of those six drinks?

Pushing open the door, Yan Zhi saw Leng Linli sitting in a leather chair, his long, slender legs crossed, looking relaxed.

Yan Zhi placed the tray she was carrying on the coffee table in front of Leng Linli and said with a gentle smile, "President Leng, please!"

His cold, sharp eyes swept lightly over the tray on the table, and he raised an eyebrow: "You prepared this?"

......no.

"Yes." Yan Zhi smiled, composed and at ease.

A smile played on Leng Linli's lips as he picked up the green tea and sniffed it.

"It smells wonderful." Leng Linli praised without reservation.

Yan Zhi lowered her eyes, concealing the emotions within them. She let go of her uncertainty and smiled faintly, "As long as it suits President Leng's taste."

I didn't expect Sang Lishu to be such a good tea brewer. Yan Zhi really got lucky... she's just passing on her good fortune.

He picked up the teacup, held it to his lips, took a small sip, savored it, and looked satisfied.

After taking a few more sips of tea, Yan Zhi saw that Leng Linli's expression was still quite pleasant, so she decided to leave. Just as she was about to go, her phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. Yan Zhi hesitated for a moment, then, seeing that it was a local number, she pressed the answer button.

Yan Zhi's phone was very loud, and the sound from the call could be heard throughout the room.

"Yan Zhi?" A gentle male voice entered Yan Zhi's ears, the tone very kind and friendly.

"I am, but I don't know who you are..." Yan Zhi hesitated.

"I am Zhuang Yan. We just met at the restaurant yesterday. Have you forgotten?" Zhuang Yan teased.

Yan Zhi was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and said, "I haven't forgotten. I wonder if President Zhuang called me because of the cooperation?"

"To be honest, no," Zhuang Yan said frankly.

"What is that?"

There was a pause of a few seconds on Zhuang Yan's end before his voice came through again. He smiled and said, "I do have a favor to ask. If it's alright, I'd like to invite you to lunch."

Without even thinking, Yan Zhi refused outright: "I'm sorry, President Zhuang, I have an urgent project today, so I'm afraid I can't go."

"And what about tomorrow?" Zhuang Yan asked again.

"Tomorrow won't work either; I have to go out for research tomorrow," Yan Zhi said.

"And the day after tomorrow?"

"The day after tomorrow won't work either, we already have plans for that day," Yan Zhi said.

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone. Yan Zhi thought Zhuang Yan must have realized that she didn't want to go out to dinner with him and assumed he was about to hang up.

The next second, Zhuang Yan's voice came again: "I remember you used to be very close to Wen Fei. I still have a notebook here that she forgot with me before. The contents are quite detailed. I have never been willing to throw it away. I asked you out for dinner to ask if you want this notebook. If you don't want it, I was planning to throw it away too."

Yan Zhi paused for a moment, then spoke again, her voice trembling slightly: "Could you please send it to me? I'll send you the address."

"If Secretary Yan is willing, we can meet at noon and discuss the cooperation," Zhuang Yan said politely.

Yan Zhi frowned. Before she could reply, Zhuang Yan began to warmly comfort her: "Secretary Yan, you don't need to be so wary of me. I have no ill intentions."

Yan Zhi remained silent, but in the end, she agreed.

That was Feifei's notebook. Feifei had left very little behind, so this notebook couldn't just be thrown away.

She has to go... and get it back.

Yan Zhi hung up the phone in a daze. Although her expression was calm, her mind was no longer at peace. She looked up inadvertently and saw Leng Linli staring at her with a sinister look.

"You're having lunch with him?" The cold, stern tone didn't sound very friendly.

"Yes... I have some personal matters to attend to," Yan Zhi explained.

Leng Linli sneered noncommittally: "I never expected that my Mrs. Leng and President Zhuang of Huasheng would have private matters. My Mrs. Leng has truly impressed me."

The cold, sharp tone carried a hint of sarcasm, causing Yan Zhi to frown.

Forget it, let Leng Linli say what he wants. He doesn't know anything anyway. Getting the notebook back is the most important thing right now.

Yan Zhi's silence infuriated Leng Linli, but more than anger, he felt a strange sense of panic.

For the first time, Leng Linli asked uncertainly, "Can't we not go?"

Leng Linli also heard on the phone just now that Zhuang Yan asked Yan Zhi out not because of work, but just incidentally. Besides, no one knows whether Zhuang Yan and Yan Zhi actually talked about work in the end.

"No," Yan Zhi said calmly.

Leng Linli clenched his fists tightly, suppressing the anger surging in his chest, and forced a smile, saying, "Fine... I understand. You can go now. I wish my Mrs. Leng a pleasant lunch in advance!"

With other men.

Yan Zhi nodded slightly: "Thank you for your concern, President Leng."

After saying that, Yan Zhi turned and walked out.

Watching the woman walk further and further away, Leng Linli suddenly called out to her: "Yan Zhi... I don't want you to go, can you... not go?"
