Chapter 196 A Belated Respect

"Just eat your food," Yan Zhi said with a smile, changing the subject.

Okay, Su Rao could tell that Yan Zhi really didn't want to talk much about President Leng, so Su Rao had no choice but to eat.

Yan Zhi ate her meal in silence. Su Rao asked Yan Zhi if she felt any joy, and Yan Zhi's answer was: No.

A month ago, Yan Zhi would probably have been overjoyed.

But now, there really isn't.

Before meeting Leng Linli, Yan Zhi had already experienced great sorrow in her life. She was overjoyed to meet Leng Linli.

If she were to lose touch with Leng Linli, Yan Zhi would be able to accept it calmly.

The sudden passing of Feifei made Yan Zhi realize that no matter who she met or lost in her life, all they could offer was temporary companionship.

In this world, there are unexpected encounters and unforeseen joys, as well as unpredictable partings and merciless farewells.

Only by being free from love can one feel truly at ease.

A tall figure stood indistinctly at the door of the ward. The person was leaning against the wall, with their hands in their pockets, their head slightly lowered, and they stood there without saying a word.

Looking at him from the side, his face looked tired, his eyes were dull, and he seemed somewhat dejected.

Su Rao followed Yan Zhi's gaze and tentatively asked, "President Leng was already standing there before I arrived. Should I call him in?"

Yan Zhi stared at the door, her gaze deep and complex, before finally speaking, "Okay."

Su Rao was overjoyed upon hearing this, quickly packed up her lunchbox and slipped away: "Then I'll come see you again tomorrow."

Yan Zhi smiled and said, "Okay, drive carefully."

"OK!" Su Rao made a cute hand gesture and disappeared from the ward.

"Su Rao said you called me, what's wrong?" Leng Linli hurriedly entered the ward, his voice somewhat hoarse and low, thinking that Yan Zhi wanted to see him about something.

Yan Zhi gazed at Leng Linli's somewhat haggard face and shook her head slightly: "It's nothing, you don't need to stay outside, go back."

Upon hearing this, Leng Linli frowned, his face instantly darkening: "I won't come into the ward."

Yan Zhi changed her approach: "You have to go to work tomorrow."

Leng Linli pursed her lips, her tone softening slightly: "I'm fine."

Yan Zhi sighed; she hadn't expected Leng Linli to be so stubborn.

“These potted plants are taking up space in the hospital. Call someone to move them away,” Yan Zhi said.

“This is a hospital under the Leng Group, no one dares to say anything. I’ll have someone bring it home after you’re discharged,” Leng Linli said. Buying potted plants was indeed a clumsy method, but doing something was better than doing nothing.

After speaking, Leng Linli paused for a moment, looked at Yan Zhi, and hesitated.

Seeing Leng Linli's hesitant and reluctant expression, Yan Zhi couldn't help but speak up: "Mr. Leng, is there something you need...?"

"I'm sorry," Leng Linli suddenly said.

It was a little difficult to speak at first, but once I got it out, it flowed much more smoothly afterward: "I shouldn't have acted foolishly."

Yan Zhi was taken aback, wondering what Leng Linli was apologizing for. She smiled faintly and said, "Thank you for your belated respect, no matter what you're referring to."

Yan Zhi was unaware of Leng Linli's intentions. If he apologized, she would accept it, hastily maintaining the basic decorum expected of an adult.

Leng Linli gave a helpless and desolate smile. He couldn't blame Yan Zhi for being cold today; he hadn't really been very good to her before.

The ward fell silent.

After a long silence, Leng Linli could see that Yan Zhi was uncomfortable, so he finally spoke up: "I'll be right outside. Call me if you need anything."

Yan Zhi nodded gently: "Mm."

Leng Linli didn't linger and turned to leave.

The moment she turned around, her cold and sharp eyes were filled with desolation. Apart from maintaining basic politeness, she didn't even want to look at him again.

Giving up on communication, to some extent, is giving up on the other person.

For several days in a row, this went on. Yan Zhi didn't call Leng Linli, and Leng Linli just quietly stayed at the door of the ward. The patients on the same floor thought that the patient in that ward had some kind of strange disease and that his family needed to be isolated outside the ward.

Leng Linli stood guard at the door of the ward until Yan Zhi called him before he went in.

If Yan Zhi didn't call him, he really would just stay at the door.

Leng Linli's insistence left Yan Zhi feeling somewhat at a loss. She didn't know how to face him or how to handle this stalemate.

Fortunately, they can finally be discharged from the hospital today. Su Rao came early to pack Yan Zhi's belongings, waiting for Leng Linli to come and pick them up after paying the bill.

Leng Linli was about to return to Yan Zhi's ward after settling the bill when he encountered Bai Lian on the way. The commotion at the outpatient building was quite significant, as an ambulance had arrived.

The ambulance door opened, and Bai Lian was helped out. Her clothes were covered in blood, and she looked extremely disheveled, with her hair in disarray and her face pale.

"Brother..." Bai Lian saw Leng Linli as soon as she got out of the car. She called out softly, her eyelids drooping, as if she was about to faint at any moment.

Several Leng family employees carried Bai Lian into the emergency surgery department.

"How did you do that?" Leng Linli asked coldly.

"Today, Assistant Bai was at the construction site when a steel bar suddenly popped out and cut her arm," one of the girls explained in a low voice. She knew that Bai Lian was adopted by the Leng family and was President Leng's sister. Now that Bai Lian was injured, the girl was afraid of being punished by Leng Linli, so she spoke even softer.

Leng Linli glanced at Bai Lian and saw that her face was pale, her lips were bloodless, and her brows were furrowed.
