Leng Linli also stopped, his tone calm and his face serious: "The premise of the secret marriage was that no one could hurt you, but now, because of the secret marriage, some people have set their sights on you. I want to protect you, I want to make those who have ill intentions towards you think twice, so that they will never dare to touch you again."
Once she leaves tomorrow, no one will be able to harm her in the slightest. If you really think about it, all the hardships Yan Zhi has endured were brought about by Leng Linli.
A complex emotion flashed in Yan Zhi's eyes, but she finally stopped arguing: "Forget it, let's not talk about this anymore."
She lowered her head and continued walking forward.
Leng Linli stared at her retreating figure, a dark glint flashing in his deep eyes.
A flash of green appeared quickly in the grass. Leng Linli strode forward, reached out and pulled Yan Zhi into his arms protectively: "Be careful!"
Hearing the cold, sharp voice, Yan Zhi turned around and heard only rustling sounds. The grass swayed slightly, and a patch of green quickly disappeared.
Yan Zhi was stunned for a moment, then realized what was happening. She quickly pushed Leng Linli away, her eyes filled with anxiety: "Are you hurt?"
"Hmm... I feel like my foot was bitten." Leng Linli's voice was still relatively light, and his gaze, which had been fixed on the bushes, gradually shifted to Yan Zhi's face.
Upon hearing this, Yan Zhi immediately squatted down, lifted Leng Linli's trouser leg to check, and sure enough, she saw two small cuts on the inside of his left ankle, with blood seeping out slightly.
Yan Zhi quickly took out her phone and called a hospital under the Leng Group: "120? I'm at Shengquan Villa right now. Mr. Leng has been bitten by a snake... I don't know what kind of snake it is, but I can vaguely see that it's bluish-green. Doctor, please hurry."
Yan Zhi didn't know if the snake was poisonous, and was afraid that the toxins would spread faster through the bloodstream if she moved, so she helped Leng Linli sit down.
Without a second thought, Yan Zhi lifted Leng Linli's trouser leg and bent down to suck out the toxins from his wound.
Just as her lips were about to touch Leng Linli's calf, a hand pushed Yan Zhi away slightly. Yan Zhi looked up, her eyes filled with confusion.
Perhaps due to the pain, a few beads of sweat appeared on Leng Linli's forehead, glistening faintly in the morning light.
Leng Linli's thin lips were slightly pursed, his cold and stern face was tense, and his deep eyes were fixed on Yan Zhi. He forced a smile and slowly opened his lips: "No need, let's wait for the ambulance."
Yan Zhi opened her mouth: "But..."
"I don't want you to take any risks," Leng Linli said. He was already overjoyed that Yan Zhiyou had sucked out the venom for him!
Seeing Yan Zhi's worried face, Leng Linli smiled and comforted her, "Don't worry."
"How could I not be worried? You look so weak." Yan Zhi frowned, her eyes filled with deep concern.
Leng Linli gazed at Yan Zhi with tenderness: "I'm fine, don't worry."
Hearing Leng Linli's words of comfort, Yan Zhi was even less convinced that he was alright. She straightened up and looked at Leng Linli with reproach in her eyes: "Leng Linli, you really don't need to do this. Right now, I can't reciprocate your overflowing love. What if something happens to you? How can I explain it to Grandma?"
She'd rather go out alone at night to enjoy the evening breeze and take a walk in the dark than spend time getting to know someone again. Compared to having her emotions controlled by others, Yan Zhi is more used to being ignored. Perhaps being alone is the best sense of security.
Leng Linli gave a bitter laugh, his voice weak: "It's alright if you don't respond, just don't push me away."
Yan Zhi stubbornly raised her head and said, "Why do you have to be so humble?"
"I don't feel ashamed to love you." Leng Linli smiled faintly, but his smile was bitter.
"When you get tired, weary, and don't want to put in the effort anymore, you'll blame everything on me again. So, you really don't need to be so cold and ruthless." Yan Zhi really didn't want to see that day come, when he and she would exchange harsh words over trivial matters.
Leng Linli looked firmly into Yan Zhi's eyes, patted her shoulder, wanting to give her confidence and want her to trust him again.
He spoke slowly, his voice more sincere than ever before: "I won't. Love may fade, but I won't."
Yan Zhi looked at Leng Linli; his expression was truly serious, and he seemed genuinely sincere, but...
Yan Zhi smiled bitterly, a hint of sadness flashing in her clear eyes, which she quickly concealed: "Love is no longer a necessity for me. The peak of love has a time limit. You have to understand that love is not lasting; it's just something to add to the beauty of life. Leng Linli, do you understand what I'm saying?"
The sadness that flashed across Yan Zhi's eyes was fleeting, but Leng Linli still caught it. He hated himself even more for his foolish decision back then. If there hadn't been extreme joy, how could there have been extreme disappointment and sadness?
"There won't be a next time. I will never hurt you again." Leng Linli's eyes were low and his voice was sorrowful, with a hint of pleading.
What exactly does he need to do for Yan Zhi to believe that he truly loves her, so that she won't give up on him or push him away?
He knew he had really made a mistake.
In a moment of weakness, he lost her.
When he came to his senses, she no longer wanted to wait for him there.
He personally lost the woman who once had eyes for him.
Leng Linli closed his eyes briefly, suppressing the surging emotions in his chest, and slowly returned to normal.
After a moment of hesitation, Leng Linli stared at Yan Zhi and asked in a hoarse voice, "Yan Zhi, if I die, will you... cry?"
Will you cry your heart out like you did when Feifei died?
Yan Zhi paused, but did not answer immediately.
