Shi Wan wondered, didn't Grandma know that she had been transferred to the countryside?
Shi Wan had always thought that her grandmother had removed the trending topic because she knew that Shi Wan had been transferred to a rural health center. But now it seems that her grandmother was unaware of these things.
The entire Sikong family consists of only Grandma and Sikong Jingyu. If it wasn't Grandma, then the trending topic about the defibrillator incident... was removed by Sikong Jingyu!
Thinking of this, Shi Wan was slightly surprised. Sikong Jingyu had done so much for her without her knowledge.
Shi Wan felt somewhat conflicted. Si Kong Jingyu and she were already divorced, so there was absolutely no need for him to help her anymore.
However, Sikong Jingyu did a lot for Shi Wan even when there was no need to help, which made Shi Wan feel unworthy.
It was late, and I couldn't pay back the money.
Especially what Sikong Jingyu wanted.
Shi Wan's voice was much lower as she tentatively asked, "Grandma, are you home alone?"
Grandma Sikong sighed, feeling somewhat helpless and powerless: "That good-for-nothing boy is always busy with work and doesn't care about the family. You're busy with work too. It's just me, an old woman in my seventies, sitting here in this huge house, staring blankly at the empty rooms!"
From her grandmother's words, Shi Wan could tell that Sikong Jingyu was still not returning to the old house, just like before. Shi Wan could also sense the loneliness in Sikong's grandmother's voice. With a slight thought, since Sikong Jingyu was not there, it was the perfect opportunity for Shi Wan to visit her grandmother.
Shi Wan said softly, "Grandma, I'll come over to have dinner with you tonight."
Hearing Wanwan say this, Grandma Sikong beamed with joy: "Really? Grandma is so happy that Wanwan can come, good, good!"
After hanging up the phone, Grandma Sikong turned and dialed her eldest grandson, Sikong Jingyu, pretending to be angry: "You rascal, where are you now? Why haven't you come home for so long? Have you forgotten that you have a grandma?"
Sikong Jingyu's gentle, jade-like voice, tinged with a hint of amusement, slowly rang out: "Grandma, what are you saying? I could forget anyone but you. I'm not just busy with work."
Grandma Sikong leaned on her cane and snorted, "Hmph, you're always trying to brush me off with that! I don't care, you have to come home tonight!"
"I have a date tonight, I'll come back to keep you company tomorrow night," Sikong Jingyu coaxed patiently.
Grandma Sikong frowned, her tone becoming more stern: "You must come home tonight. If you don't come back tonight, then you don't need to come back at all. Just let this old woman die alone in the old house."
Usually, whenever Grandma would threaten to kill herself to trick him into returning to the Sikong family mansion, it was always to get him to go back and cultivate his relationship with Shi Wan. Could it be...?
Will you be going back to the old house tonight?
Sikong Jing was silent for a moment, then agreed: "Okay, I'll go back tonight."
"Come back and have dinner with me, don't be late again!" Grandma Sikong instructed again.
"Um."
Sikong Jingyu hung up the phone, rubbing his throbbing temples, his deep eyes flashing with complex emotions.
In the evening, before I even reached my doorstep, I saw my grandmother standing at the door waiting for me from afar.
"Grandma!" Shi Wan waved to her grandmother.
After getting out of the taxi, Shi Wan handed over the local specialties that her mother had prepared to the maid.
"It's good that you're here. You must be exhausted carrying so much stuff." Grandma Sikong took Shi Wan's hand, touched her cheek with joy, and her kind eyes reddened slightly.
Shi Wan shook her head and smiled gently, "I'm not tired. My mom prepared this in advance and asked me to bring it to you."
"Your mother... she just misses me."
A hint of sadness flashed across Grandma Sikong's eyes, but then she smiled again. "Come on, come inside with Grandma, it's cold outside."
Grandma Sikong led Shi Wan into the house, muttering, "Wanwan, the car I bought for you when we got married is almost gathering dust. Haven't you gotten your driver's license yet? I suggested arranging a driver to take you to and from get off work, but you refused. If you could get your license, you could drive wherever you want without having to hail a taxi."
Shi Wan smiled bitterly, pursing her lips: "Grandma... I'll try my best."
Grandma Sikong nodded in satisfaction.
What Shi Wan didn't say was that the car was too luxurious and too high-profile. If Shi Wan drove it to work at the hospital, she would be drowned in gossip. She was already an employee, and hiring a driver to take her to work was extremely extravagant.
As the food was laid out on the table, Shi Wan had just picked up her chopsticks when a tall, imposing figure walked into the living room. His black suit was paired with a long black trench coat, which made him appear even more majestic and extraordinary.
Shi Wan looked up at the familiar yet unfamiliar figure following the sound.
Sikong Jingyu...
Shi Wan's breathing became disordered for a moment. She had clearly asked her grandmother beforehand that Sikong Jingyu was not at home before she came over.
Why did he suddenly come back?
She had just told Sikong Jingyu that they shouldn't see each other again, but now that they'd run into each other at his house, her previous words seemed somewhat untenable.
Sikong Jingyu's eyes were calm, his expression indifferent, and his face was as resolute as if carved by a knife. He slowly took off his trench coat and handed it to the maid, then strode into the living room.
"Grandma, I'm back."
Sikong Jingyu called out softly, his gaze falling lightly on Shi Wan's face, his eyes dark and deep, before he subtly looked away.
Sikong Jingyu stood before Shi Wan, as always, noble and elegant, indifferent and aloof.
"You little rascal, you've finally decided to come home. Hurry up and sit down to eat." Grandma Sikong glared at Sikong Jingyu reproachfully.
Sikong Jingyu slightly parted his thin lips and gave a brief reply: "Mm."
The phrase "I'm back" that was said to Grandma was actually a message to Shi Wan that he had arrived.
"Wanwan is here tonight too, it's rare for the whole family to get together." Grandma said with a smile, but as she spoke, her eyes couldn't help but well up with tears.
"Wanwan, you've suffered so much these past few years!"
Shi Wan was stunned. Had Sikong Jingyu not told his grandmother about the divorce yet?
The reason why Sikong Jingyu hasn't told his grandmother about the divorce yet is that he's afraid she'll get high blood pressure if she can't accept it right away due to her age.
Secondly, Sikong Jingyu believed that he could definitely win Shi Wan back and remarry her.
Since they're going to remarry anyway, whether or not they talk about the divorce becomes unimportant.
Seeing tears welling up in her grandmother's eyes, Shi Wan quickly put down her chopsticks: "Grandma, it's all in the past, let's not talk about it anymore, okay?"
"Alright, it's over now. You two should live a good life from now on." Grandma Sikong took Shi Wan's hand and placed it in Sikong Jingyu's hand.
Shi Wan lowered her eyelashes and remained silent for a moment.
Seeing her grandmother sad, Shi Wan felt inexplicably distressed, but she knew she would never be able to fulfill her grandmother's wishes in this lifetime.
Sikong Jingyu looked at Shi Wan, his gaze slightly lowered.
The silence at that moment was deafening.
Nothing could defeat him except the silence of the evening.
Sikong Jingyu looked tired and weak. He turned his palm over and held Shi Wan's hand tightly in his own, saying softly, "Grandma, we'll be alright."
