Chapter 76 I Don't Need

The doctors on duty in the office were all taken aback and stared at Shi Wan in surprise, not expecting that Dr. Shi would resist.

"Dr. Shi, my scheduling is based on consideration of the department staff. If you have any questions about my scheduling, you can go to the supervisor." Nie Shirong raised her eyebrows slightly, invoking the supervisor to pressure Shi Wan.

“Director Nie, I’ve only been back in the department for a week, and I’ve already worked four night shifts. Next week, you’re scheduling four night shifts for me directly. Emergency room doctors used to work one night shift a week, but now you’re scheduling four. I can push myself through without rest, but I’m worried that prolonged sleep deprivation will slow my brain’s reaction time, leading to incorrect judgments and potential safety issues while on duty. Therefore, I’m asking you to be cautious with the scheduling. If you want me to go to the leadership for this, I’m not unwilling to make a trip to their office, but I feel that problems that can be resolved internally shouldn’t involve higher-ups.” Shi Wan spoke clearly and seriously.

The doctors exchanged bewildered glances, but Nie Shirong's scheduling was truly outrageous. Why didn't she schedule four night shifts for herself out of seven days a week? In fact, she didn't schedule a single night shift for herself at all!

"Dr. Shi, are you questioning me? I have no choice. Some staff members are on leave, some are on maternity leave, and some are on sick leave. I don't have many people to schedule to begin with, so this is the only way I can arrange it. If you're really not satisfied, go talk to the supervisor. I can't change it." Nie Shirong publicly recounted her difficulties, a triumphant smile flashing across her lips.

Shi Wan frowned and stared intently at Nie Shirong. Shi Wan did not pursue the matter of Nie Shirong pushing her out to shield her from the knife that night. However, Nie Shirong blatantly made things difficult for Shi Wan because Shi Wan refused to sign Song Zhiqing's prescription.

One late night can be overlooked, two late nights can be tolerated, but after three or four times, it's simply unbearable.

Kindness must have an edge!

We cannot be blindly kind!

When it comes to scheduling, I will never back down!

Shi Wan nodded, her gaze resolute: "Alright, then I'll go up to the dean's office."

"Then how about I go to the dean's office too!"

The conversation was interrupted by a deep voice.

Everyone turned to look at the source of the sound, and saw Sikong Jingyu wearing a hospital gown, striding into the office with his head held high. His posture was upright, his expression was somewhat cold, his eyes were icy, and his aura was imposing. Even though he was wearing a hospital gown, it did not diminish his powerful aura in the slightest, as if a king had descended!

"Mr. Sikong, why are you in the office instead of resting in your hospital room?" Nie Shirong immediately fawned over him, bowing and scraping.

Sikong Jingyu glanced at Nie Shirong indifferently, then looked away and his gaze gradually fell on Shi Wan.

Sikong Jingyu looked at Shi Wan, his gaze softening slightly, and said with a faint smile, "What, do I have to report to Director Nie where I go?"

"No, no, I wouldn't dare," Nie Shirong said softly.

"I was wondering why Dr. Shi hadn't had time to see me these past few days. Turns out he's been working non-stop. Director Nie, if you don't know how to schedule shifts, you can delegate that to someone who does."

Sikong Jingyu's tone seemed casual, but it actually carried a warning. How could Nie Shirong not understand the unspoken meaning behind Sikong Jingyu's words?

Nie Shirong's expression changed, and she said through gritted teeth, "Dr. Shi's question is very valid. I was inconsiderate. I will revise the schedule right away. One night shift a week. Dr. Shi, is that acceptable?"

Shi Wan nodded.

Seeing Shi Wan nod, Sikong Jingyu smiled gently and elegantly, and slowly walked towards Shi Wan.

"Dr. Shi, do you have time to examine me now? My wound is still very painful today. Could you check it to see if it has torn open?"

After hesitating for a moment, Shi Wan nodded, "Okay."

Then, Shi Wan and Sikong Jingyu left the office and returned to the ward.

Nie Shirong stood there, watching Sikong Jingyu and Shi Wan leave together, her hands clenched tightly in jealousy, her nails digging deep into her palms.

After walking some distance from the office, Shi Wan calmed herself down, stopped, and turned to face Sikong Jingyu, who was following behind her.

"Mr. Sikong, thank you very much for speaking up for me today, but please don't do it again next time."

Sikong Jingyu frowned slightly upon hearing Shi Wan's words. He had expected Shi Wan to be grateful, but she didn't appreciate it.

"Why? Isn't it good to have someone backing you up?" Sikong Jingyu asked, his tone puzzled.

“Mr. Sikong, you think you’re standing up for me today, but once you’re gone, she’ll make me pay for all the humiliation I suffered today.” Shi Wan replied politely and gently, her voice soft yet clear.

"If she, a mere department head, dares to bully you, wouldn't you take advantage of my power to bully others?" Sikong Jingyu's words revealed a strong and arrogant attitude.

"We're already divorced." Shi Wan looked up, gazing intently at Sikong Jingyu, her eyes revealing a distant expression.

Sikong Jingyu raised an eyebrow, completely unconcerned and not feeling anything was amiss. Whether or not she got a divorce had no direct connection to whether or not she relied on her power.

"Even after the divorce, you're still my ex-wife. You can still come to me if you need anything. You can still rely on my influence." Sikong Jingyu said matter-of-factly.

However, Shi Wan felt that it wasn't so obvious.

Once you're divorced, you should completely cut off contact; that's what makes a good ex!

Shi Wan raised her head and asked in return, "Mr. Sikong, in what capacity should I come to see you?"

Sikong Jingyu smiled faintly, his deep voice gentle and pleasant to the ear: "No matter your identity, you can come to me, and I will make decisions for you."

His gaze was affectionate and tender.

However, Shi Wan didn't want to see his deep affection after the divorce, so she looked away and said with pursed lips, "But I don't need it."

Sikong Jingyu was stunned, his smile gradually fading, and an endless sense of loss welled up in his heart. He thought that by becoming Shi Wan's support, she would be happy, but he never expected that she didn't need it at all...

Sikong Jingyu paused for a long while before slowly asking, "...Why?"

Shi Wan raised her eyes to meet Sikong Jingyu's gaze and answered seriously, "Before the divorce, I never relied on your power, Mr. Sikong, and I don't need to after the divorce either."

Shi Wan's words made Sikong Jingyu's eyes flicker.

Staring into Shi Wan's eyes, Si Kong Jingyu felt a surge of pain in his heart. His voice lowered involuntarily, and his throat tightened with a soreness:

"Wanwan, I'm sorry for what I did to you. I really know I was wrong and I regret it. I apologize to you for the ignorant person I was in the past, and I will make it up to you."
