When Shi Wan first looked at the medical record, she did not recognize the patient as Grandma Sikong. Over the years, Shi Wan had not known Grandma Sikong's name. Since they met, Shi Wan had called her Grandma and had not paid attention to her name.
When Grandma Sikong saw Shi Wan come in, she smiled kindly and waved to Shi Wan, "Wanwan, come here quickly!"
Shi Wan felt a tightness in her chest and slowly took a few steps closer to Grandma Sikong, just a few steps.
"Wanwan..." Grandma Sikong called out affectionately, her expression tinged with guilt.
From the day she went missing, Shi Wan never answered Grandma Sikong's calls again. When she saw missed calls, she didn't call back. Grandma Sikong knew that Shi Wan harbored resentment towards her.
"Grandma, if you're not feeling unwell anywhere, I'll process your discharge later," Shi Wan said calmly.
"I can't be discharged from the hospital yet..." Grandma Sikong said, like a child who had done something wrong.
“You guys go check on the other patients first, I’ll talk to her,” Shi Wan said to her colleagues as she turned around.
The colleagues also noticed that the atmosphere between the grandmother and Shi Wan was obviously not right, and after listening to Shi Wan's suggestion, they all left the ward.
Only Shi Wan and Grandma Sikong remained in the ward.
"Wanwan, you blame Grandma, right? Grandma had no choice back then. Your parents passed away one after another, and Grandma had to protect your grandfather's family business and your father's hard work. It's not that I didn't want you; I wanted to protect you, so I switched your identity with Xiaojing's." Grandma Sikong said earnestly, her voice filled with guilt.
When Grandma Sikong spoke of Shi Wan's biological parents, her eyes reddened slightly. She wiped away her tears and continued, "Back then, I was a woman with you in your arms. I had no way to survive. I had no choice but to exchange you with Xiao Jing. I thought that after you came of age, you could get married and everything in the Sikong family would be back in your hands. I never expected that Xiao Jing would resist this marriage so much, and even divorce you!"
Grandma Sikong's face was filled with sorrow as she recalled the past.
Shi Wan felt a pang of sadness in her heart, but she still forced herself to hold it in.
"Wanwan, believe me, it's not that I don't love you, on the contrary, I really love you."
Overwhelmed with emotion, Grandma Sikong reached out to hold Shi Wan's hand to express her feelings.
Seeing Grandma Sikong's outstretched hand, Shi Wan took a step back and avoided it.
This was a subconscious action by Shi Wan.
Shi Wan is not a saint. If she says that she doesn't resent Grandma Sikong at all at this moment, she would be lying.
She did nothing wrong; she was abandoned shortly after birth.
Grandma Sikong thought her arrangements were the best for Shiwan, but she didn't even give Shiwan a chance to choose her own path in life!
On what basis does Grandma Sikong believe that women are inferior to men?
Looking at Grandma Sikong's face full of guilt on the hospital bed, Shi Wan couldn't offer any comforting words of understanding for the time being.
When Shi Wan spoke, her voice was distant and unapproachable: "Grandma, hospital beds are in short supply. If you don't need a bed, why don't you give it to someone who does?"
Grandma Sikong's face showed a hint of bitterness. "Wanwan, Grandma knows you can't accept it right away, but it's okay. It's Grandma's own fault. Grandma will wait until the day you forgive me."
"Then you should rest well. I'll go out and get back to work." Shi Wan said indifferently, turned and left the ward. She'd have someone else do the talking tomorrow.
Grandma Sikong nodded, watching Shi Wan leave, her eyes filled with sadness.
Grandma Sikong pretended to be sick and hospitalized to beg Shi Wan for forgiveness. When Sikong Jingyu found out, he followed suit and deliberately tore open a wound on his shoulder to be admitted to the emergency room. For a while, the emergency room was bustling with activity.
The richest man in Yuncheng is a common sight among doctors and nurses, and he is either begging for forgiveness from doctors or on his way to beg for forgiveness from doctors.
"Wanwan, it hurts."
"Just bear the pain."
Seeing her wound, which had finally healed, tear open again, Shi Wan felt somewhat resentful towards Sikong Jingyu for not taking care of his body.
"Wanwan....."
Sikong Jingyu tried to play the victim again, but Shi Wan simply ignored him.
"It's late!" A gentle male voice rang out from not far away.
As dusk fell, he turned around and saw Sean.
Shi Wan smiled faintly and replied, "Senior brother."
"The hospital is organizing an academic conference this afternoon about new targeted drugs. Do you have time to attend?" Sean asked with a smile, his eyes gentle.
"Yes," Shi Wan replied.
"Wanwan..."
"Don't speak!" Shi Wan interrupted Sikong Jingyu.
"I......"
“You’re not allowed to come along either!” Shi Wan said.
Sikong Jingyu opened his mouth, but the words he was about to say stuck in his throat.
Sikong Jingyu gave a helpless, bitter smile.
"Let's go, senior."
Sikong Jingyu couldn't afford to offend her, so he could only watch helplessly as Shi Wan left with another man, his heart filled with melancholy.
Sean could sense the subtle tension between Shi Wan and Sikong Jingyu. Once they were out of Sikong Jingyu's reach, he said earnestly, "He seems quite sincere."
Shi Wan paused, avoiding a direct answer and instead jokingly asked with a smile, "Senior, when did you start working as a matchmaker?"
Sean smiled slightly and didn't pursue the question any further.
Shi Wan and Sean walked into the conference room together.
The meeting room was full of people. Shi Wan and Sean arrived late, and there were almost no seats left when they got there.
"Sean, over here!" Just a few steps into the conference room, a woman's voice called Sean's name from the front row.
“Okay!” Sean replied.
Sean and Shi Wan walked over, but there was only one seat available.
There were two people, but only one seat.
That was awkward.
"I'm sorry, Doctor Shi, I didn't know you were coming, so I only got a seat. I'll get you a seat next time," the girl said.
