Chapter 6 Difficulties

Shi Wan frowned slightly, suppressing the surging emotions in her chest, and tried her best to maintain the basic politeness and dignity that an adult should have. She spoke calmly: "Mr. Sikong, not everyone is like you, a privileged child born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Many people put in more effort than others, and humble themselves to do things that go against their conscience. They may never reach your level in this lifetime, and may not even be able to win a single project. Despite all this, you still casually gloss over it and bring up gender."

"Are you trying to gain sympathy or attack me?" Sikong Jingyu's tone was indifferent, his eyes displaying a half-smile.

"No, what I'm trying to say is that gender is never the key to success or failure; prejudice is."

Shi Wan's expression was resolute, and his words were forceful.

Sikong Jingyu remained silent for a moment, then sneered, his eyes filled with obvious contempt. No matter how sweet her words were, she was still just like those other women, using tricks to get into his bed.

"You said you didn't want anything this morning, but then you showed up at my door with a contract tonight. Is this what you mean by 'not wanting anything'?" Sikong Jingyu's words were light and airy, with an undisguised mockery on his lips.

Shi Wan clenched her fists, feeling aggrieved. What happened last night was just an accident. She never thought of using her beauty to gain any benefit, nor had she ever gained any benefit from it. However, because of her status as Mrs. Sikong, she couldn't openly explain herself.

"I didn't come here to see you." Shi Wan straightened her back as she said this.

"Oh~~ then what were you feeling guilty about just now?" Sikong Jingyu raised the corners of his lips and asked with amusement.

Shi Wan lowered her eyes, unable to answer.

She couldn't answer, not because she was in the wrong.

She felt guilty because she was afraid that Sikong Jingyu would recognize her as the Sikong wife he was looking for. If Sikong Jingyu then presumptuously imagined that she, the nominal Sikong wife, had plotted against him, she would really be unable to explain herself.

Of course, Shi Wan can't say for sure right now.

Last night's accident, today's project, they just happened to happen one after another in such a dramatic way. She's already in bed with him, and she still has to take the project. What can she say?

She'll be the one who feels embarrassed.

Sikong Jingyu chuckled lightly: "Whether you look for Zhou Yuran or me, you're looking for the Sikong Group. In my eyes, there's no difference. Who can guarantee that you won't use my name to do things behind my back?"

Shi Wan was genuinely angry.

Shi Wan really wanted to ask Si Kong Jingyu what she had done in his name during their four years of marriage.

Without factual basis, how can he judge a person based on subjective assumptions?

Sikong Jingyu's words were like sharp daggers, stabbing at her again and again. Just because their family backgrounds were not equal, she was not as rich as him, and she did not live as glamorous a life as he did, he could arbitrarily imagine her as something unbearable.

Shi Wan closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and when she opened them again, her eyes were calm as usual: "Mr. Sikong, just because you are from the Sikong Group doesn't mean I have to cut off all cooperation with the Sikong Group. I still have to survive, don't I?"

Sikong Jingyu smiled faintly, casually crossing his legs, elegant and dignified.

He leaned back comfortably on the sofa, one elbow casually resting on the armrest, his voice calm and languid: "Since you say you want to survive, fine, I'll give you a chance to survive now. If you want the project in the north of the city, just do what you did to Zhou Yuran earlier, and do what you did to me now."

He was humiliating her.

Normally, if they didn't see eye to eye, she could choose to leave, but now, she can't.

Shi Wan's face was slightly pale, but she stubbornly raised her head and glared at him.

Just as I was about to say, "She would never try to please him," my phone beeped, and a message came in.

Shi Wan glanced at it; it was a message from Shi Yu.

"Sis, did you land the project? Should I come over and help?"

Shi Yu had just finished surgery and the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet, so how could she run out now? Shi Wan turned to look at Sikong Jingyu, who was still sitting leisurely, seemingly quite interested, waiting for her to please him.

The project... she has to win it tonight.

It was late, so there was no other choice.

With a long sigh, suppressing the bitterness and humiliation churning in her chest, Shi Wan poured a glass of wine and walked up to Sikong Jingyu. She bowed slightly and said softly, "Mr. Sikong, I toast you."

After saying that, Shi Wan poured the wine down her throat. The spicy liquid slid down her throat, making her tremble slightly.

"That's it? Is this all the sincerity you've shown?" Sikong Jingyu said indifferently.

Shi Wan understood Sikong Jingyu's predicament. She laid out a row of wine glasses, filled them, and silently drank them down one by one.

Sikong Jingyu narrowed his eyes at Shi Wan, smiled slightly, and did not stop her.

Soon, Shi Wan poured all the wine into her stomach. The burning sensation in her stomach almost made her vomit, but she tried her best to hold it in.

She raised her head again, meeting Sikong Jingyu's dark, narrow, and indifferent eyes. She forced a stiff smile and said, "Mr. Sikong, is that enough?"

As she spoke, she downed another glass.

Sikong Jingyu smiled faintly: "The sincerity I want goes beyond this."

Upon hearing this, Shi Wan tightened her grip on the wine glass, her eyes reddening, but she still tried her best to control her emotions and remain calm.

Shi Wan knew that tonight wasn't about how much she drank.

Sikong Jingyu made things difficult for her only to see her bow her head and regret her previous words of defiance.

Alright, it was evening as he wished.

Shi Wan lowered her eyes and said in a very low voice, "Didn't Mr. Sikong ask me what I wanted this morning?"

"Have you thought it through?" Sikong Jingyu was smiling, but he gave off a sinister and cold feeling.

"Um......"

"I thought you had a lot of backbone, but you're nothing special." Sikong Jingyu smiled dismissively.

Self-esteem should be placed on the right people and things. As far as Sikong Jingyu is concerned, what self-esteem does someone like her deserve?

Ignoring the disdain in Sikong Jingyu's eyes, Shi Wan bit her lip and said with difficulty, "I want... the project in the north of the city."

Sikong Jingyu's thin lips curled into a mocking smile: "You think you're worth that price?"

Shi Wan clenched her fists, her knuckles turning white, and slowly raised her head. Her beautiful features revealed a resolute forbearance: "Whether I am worth it or not depends entirely on whether Mr. Sikong thinks I am worth it."

Sikong Jingyu pondered for a moment, a wicked smile appearing on his lips, and said casually, "What if I said you're not worth this price?"

Shi Wan's breath hitched, a pang of pain shot through her heart, her eyes reddened, and she frowned, saying earnestly, "If it's not worth it... then it's not worth it. Even if I'm not worth this price, I believe Mr. Sikong is a man of his word."

As if she had heard a joke, Sikong Jingyu chuckled softly: "Who told you that? I've never considered myself a gentleman."
