Chapter 120 I Like Him

Cao Xue's gaze darted back and forth between He Lingchuan and Shen Yanxi. Her face was pale, and she swayed precariously in the wind, as if she might fall at any moment.

He Lingchuan's heart jumped. He looked at Shen Yanxi and said, "Call Cao Wei."

If something were to happen to Cao Xue here, they couldn't bear the responsibility.

"No, you can't call my sister. I ran away secretly."

Cao Xue pouted and looked at He Lingchuan pitifully: "Please don't tell my sister, okay? I'll go back in a bit."

Who will take you home?

He Lingchuan's tone was serious. Seeing that Cao Xue still didn't realize her mistake, he couldn't help but lose his temper: "Do you know how dangerous it was for you to sneak out? You just had surgery. What if something happened to you on the way? How am I supposed to explain it to your sister?"

He Lingchuan put his hands behind his back, getting angrier as he spoke: "You really don't know any better."

Cao Xue pursed her lips: "Don't be angry, I'll be back in a bit. I took a taxi myself. I just wanted to see you."

She glanced at Shen Yanxi standing next to He Lingchuan, hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Didn't you say you'd come to see me after I was discharged from the hospital? Why didn't you call me?"

Cao Xue's voice was filled with sorrow. She hadn't wanted to come, but she couldn't help herself.

She wanted to talk to He Lingchuan, just to have a simple conversation.

Cao Xue tugged at He Lingchuan's sleeve, looking pitiful: "I just want you to stay with me, is that not allowed?"

"no."

He Lingchuan ruthlessly shook off Cao Xue's hand: "I'll take you back right now."

As he spoke, he walked toward the driver, intending to drive his car away.

He Lingchuan had only taken two steps when he heard Shen Yanxi's cold voice behind him: "He Lingchuan, don't forget what you promised me."

She walked up to He Lingchuan, her eyes dark and gloomy: "You've only just seen the child. I advise you not to be so presumptuous."

"Then what do you suggest we do? Are we just going to let her stand here indefinitely?"

He Lingchuan subconsciously assumed that Shen Yanxi would not let Cao Xue into the house.

He reached out and tapped Shen Yanxi's shoulder: "This is your good friend's sister. You're just standing by and watching her die."

"What did I say that would make you refuse to help someone who is dying?"

Shen Yanxi also had a bad temper. She looked at He Lingchuan with an impatient expression: "He Lingchuan, aren't you being too hostile towards me, and this woman too?"

Shen Yanxi turned to look at Cao Xue: "If you care about her so much, why don't you answer her calls?"

"These are two different things."

He Lingchuan looked at Cao Xue, who was shivering from the cold, and even his own clothes were no use when he put them on her.

Her lips were bright red, clearly from biting them herself.

He Lingchuan took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down: "If you don't want me to take her, then let her inside first. If she faints here, do you think Cao Wei will let you off the hook?"

Shen Yanxi raised her head, glanced at the person behind her, and finally relented.

She walked up to Cao Xue, staring into her eyes: "Come with me."

Cao Wei subconsciously looked at He Lingchuan, and only after seeing him nod did she leave with Shen Yanxi.

Shen Yanxi led the person to her room, and He Lingchuan hesitated for a moment before choosing to wait at the door.

He rushed over and immediately had the housekeeper call Cao Wei. Cao Wei was looking for someone, and when she heard that Cao Xue was with him, she flew into a rage, wishing she could tear him to pieces right then and there.

He Lingchuan stood at the door, sighing helplessly.

In the room, Shen Yanxi thoughtfully found Cao Xue a new set of clothes. Looking at this girl who was four or five years younger than herself, she couldn't help but ask, "Do you like He Lingchuan?"

She didn't want to ask these questions, but Cao Xue's repeated probing had crossed her bottom line.

Even if she is Cao Wei's sister, it won't work.

Cao Xue lowered her head somewhat awkwardly, revealing a shy, girlish expression: "I just think Brother Lingchuan is a really good person. When I was sick, he kept comforting me, so I..."

"He has children."

Shen Yanxi stood in front of Cao Xue, looking down at her: "You're too young, you can't be a good stepmother."

That's not what I meant.

Cao Xue looked up anxiously: "I haven't thought about these things. I just want to see Brother Lingchuan."

She was a little nervous and her words were incoherent.

"Cao Xue, I consider you my own sister."

Shen Yanxi cut to the chase, leaving Cao Xue no room for negotiation: "That's why I wanted to remind you, you can like whoever you want, but it can't be He Lingchuan."

Cao Xue looked surprised and raised her head, clearly unconvinced: "Why? I know you're already divorced."

"So what? Even if we're divorced, he's still the father of my child. If I want, I can bring him back to me with just one word."

Shen Yanxi lowered her head and met Cao Xue's eyes. Her words were so cruel that Cao Xue couldn't withstand them at all: "Do you think the reason we got divorced was because we had no feelings for each other? No, it's because I don't want to be with him anymore. So, if I want, he will come back to me."

Cao Xue's eyes welled up with tears. She frowned, trying to hide her sadness with silence.

Shen Yanxi looked at her trembling fingertips and felt a pang of pity.

After all, she was the younger sister she had watched grow up, and she didn't want to hurt Cao Xue too much.

Shen Yanxi turned her head away, her tone tactful: "So you should just give up on him as soon as possible. Liking him won't do you any good."

"I will not give up."

Cao Xue spoke firmly, raising her head to meet Shen Yanxi's gaze: "Sister Xixi, you still like Brother Lingchuan, right? Otherwise, why would you be so angry?"

Cao Xue originally thought that since Shen Yanxi still liked him, she shouldn't make it too obvious.

But since Shen Yanxi had spoken up first, she didn't want to hide her feelings either.

"I like Brother Lingchuan, and I hope we can compete fairly."

Cao Xue looked at Shen Yanxi with an innocent expression. Shen Yanxi looked her up and down and couldn't help but laugh: "You'll be quite confident then."

Shen Yanxi looked her up and down. When did this girl turn from a little kid into a woman who could compete with her for a man?

And then there's He Lingchuan, he really is a ladies' man, first he tricked me, and now he's got Cao Xue.

Shen Yanxi's expression was grave. She wanted to say something more, but she saw Cao Xue get up and walk to the door first.

She smiled brightly, a smile that was captivating: "Sister Xixi, I like Brother Lingchuan. No matter how you try to persuade me, it's no use. As for whether he will accept me, that's his business. But I will try my best to make him accept me."

As she spoke, Cao Xue pushed open the door, only to be met with He Lingchuan's surprised gaze from outside.

She stood there, stunned, stammering, "Ling, Brother Lingchuan, did you hear us talking just now?"
