He Lingchuan spoke excitedly, looking at the protruding piece of bedding on the bed. He lifted it up, directly meeting Zhou Mingyan's gaze.
His face was pale, his lips were cracked, and his eyelids drooped as he tried to roll them upward.
"Mr. He, what... what did you say..."
He coughed as he looked at He Lingchuan, his eyes full of doubt.
Seeing his condition, Yi Pang quickly stepped forward and touched his forehead: "Mr. Zhou, you are sick. Why don't you come to the hospital with me?"
The housekeeper looked at Zhou Mingyan with a worried expression, trying to pull him out of bed.
Zhou Mingyan looked at him and waved his hand gently: "No need, I'll just lie down for a while and sweat it out. Please don't let Xixi know I'm sick, she'll definitely worry."
Zhou Mingyan looked very sensible. He raised his head again and moved his gaze to He Lingchuan: "Mr. He, please don't tell Xixi that I'm seriously ill. If he finds out, he will definitely cause you trouble."
"What does this have to do with me?"
He Lingchuan looked at him coldly. He stepped forward and touched Zhou Mingyan's brow, then opened his clothes and touched his chest: "You're not faking illness, are you?"
"Mr. He, cough cough, you've misunderstood me. Why would I pretend to be sick?"
"Because you want to shirk responsibility."
He Lingchuan spoke coldly, not forgetting their conversation from yesterday.
Now that Shen Yanxi isn't here, he can finally have a good interrogation of Zhou Mingyan: "You're feeling guilty because you're afraid I'll tell Shen Yanxi that you're the one who kidnapped Nan Chen."
Upon hearing the last four words, Zhou Mingyan's face immediately darkened, and his cough worsened.
“Mr. He, what do you mean by that? How could I possibly kidnap Nan Chen? He is Xi Xi’s biological son.”
"Isn't it because He Nanchen is his biological son that you want to take him away?"
He Lingchuan paused for a moment, then directly exposed Zhou Mingyan's purpose: "If Nan Chen unfortunately dies, you can say that Xu Fei did all of this and frame me. If Nan Chen doesn't die, you can play the good guy."
He Lingchuan's gaze was piercing, like a judge presiding over a case.
Zhou Mingyan pursed his lips and rolled his eyes nervously, but he quickly calmed down.
He looked up at He Lingchuan and questioned him neither humbly nor arrogantly: "Where is the evidence? If you have no evidence, this is defamation, and I can sue you."
Zhou Mingyan became increasingly agitated, and his coughing grew louder.
The servants standing nearby looked nervous. If anything happened to Zhou Mingyan, Shen Yanxi would definitely not let them off the hook.
They stepped forward, trying to persuade He Lingchuan: "Mr. He, let's go out first. Mr. Zhou is sick and needs to rest."
"Who said he needs to rest?"
He Lingchuan glanced around, but no one dared to utter a sound.
He walked over to Zhou Mingyan and pinched his thigh hard: "See his expression? He seems perfectly fine; he's just faking it."
Zhou Mingyan frowned, pointed at He Lingchuan with a wronged expression, and said, "Mr. He, I can understand that you are anxious about Nan Chen not being close to you, but you can't slander me like this. I'm going to call the police."
He turned the tables on her, but He Lingchuan smiled knowingly and said, "Fine, whatever you want."
After saying the last word, He Lingchuan simply sat down in his room. He turned to the maid and said, "Call the police for him. I also wanted to ask the police if they got anything out of Xu Fei. He's not that bold as to arrest people randomly. If he can tell me who's behind it all, I might consider letting him go."
He Lingchuan deliberately provoked Zhou Mingyan, and sure enough, after he said those words, Zhou Mingyan immediately lowered his head, gripped the blanket tightly with both hands, and his face darkened.
He Lingchuan didn't know what he was thinking, but he could tell that he was a little guilty.
He looked at Zhou Mingyan with a half-smile, crossing his legs smugly.
When Shen Yanxi rushed back from school, she saw He Lingchuan sitting smugly in front of Zhou Mingyan.
He seemed not to hear the footsteps behind him, and laughed as he threatened Zhou Mingyan: "If you tell the truth, I might be able to get the police to give you a lighter sentence."
He Lingchuan leaned forward, his eyes filled with mockery: "Why don't you just turn yourself in? That would save you a lot of trouble."
"Confess to what? He Lingchuan, stop messing around."
Hearing Shen Yanxi's voice, He Lingchuan turned around in surprise.
He paused for a few seconds, then gave a half-smile: "You even brought reinforcements? Looks like you're really feeling guilty."
Shen Yanxi was somewhat confused. She didn't have time to pay attention to He Lingchuan, so she pushed past his shoulder and walked to Zhou Mingyan's side.
Shen Yanxi gently touched Zhou Mingyan's forehead: "How are you feeling? Is there anything that's particularly uncomfortable?"
Zhou Mingyan looked at Shen Yanxi and gently shook his head, his eyes full of tenderness: "Why did you come back? Wasn't there something going on at the company?"
"I heard you're sick, what happened?"
Zhou Mingyan glanced at He Lingchuan, then hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but didn't.
Shen Yanxi looked in the direction he was looking, her face full of anger: "He Lingchuan, did you do this?"
"What does his illness have to do with me?"
He Lingchuan found it amusing and sarcastically remarked from the side, "No matter what happens to him in the future, will he always blame me?"
Shen Yanxi felt annoyed by the disdain on his face. She looked at the servants beside her and asked, "What's going on? Didn't I tell you to take good care of Mingyan?"
According to Shen Yanxi, Zhou Mingyan was seriously injured while saving Nan Chen, and in order to help him recover as soon as possible, Shen Yanxi gave him a long leave.
The more nervous Shen Yanxi became about Zhou Mingyan, the more nauseous He Lingchuan felt.
He directly exposed Zhou Mingyan's purpose: "Shen Yanxi, have you investigated the reason for Nan Chen's disappearance? Why was it that I happened to run into Zhou Mingyan when Xu Fei was beating me up? How come Xu Fei was so stubborn for so long, but then he told Zhou Mingyan the hiding place?"
He Lingchuan paused here, then slowly looked up: "Don't you think there's a problem?"
Shen Yanxi was so absorbed in Zhou Mingyan's illness that she was completely unaware of the problem.
He replied to He Lingchuan nonchalantly, "What's the problem? Mingyan was injured like this to save your child, and now he's sick. Don't you feel any guilt at all?"
"What do I have to feel guilty about? If it weren't for him, Xu Fei wouldn't have been able to find Nan Chen."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Mingyan abruptly stood up. His movements were so rapid that he began to cough violently: "You're talking nonsense. I didn't do it on purpose. I know you hold a grudge against me, which is why you're trying to smear me, but I really didn't mean to."
Zhou Mingyan grabbed Shen Yanxi's wrist and looked at her pitifully: "Xixi, you must believe me."
His voice choked with emotion, and he had difficulty breathing, as if he were about to faint at any moment.
