Zhou Mingyan gritted his teeth: "He Lingchuan, don't go too far."
"If you're upright, you have nothing to fear. If you're not, then what are you so nervous about?"
He Lingchuan looked him up and down, and Zhou Mingyan was trembling violently because he felt guilty.
Shen Yanxi felt sorry for Zhou Mingyan, so she held his hand and waved her free hand beside her, trying to disperse the crowd of onlookers: "Everyone, disperse. What male third party? Stop making wild guesses."
Before leaving, Shen Yanxi glared at He Lingchuan, warning him not to say anything out of line.
He Lingchuan returned to the ward after everyone outside had left.
When he looked up, both children frowned and looked up at him, their expressions exactly the same.
"You're so stupid, you can't even soothe your mother."
Bei Chen nodded in agreement and squeezed He Lingchuan's hand: "That's right. If you could treat Mom as well as Uncle Zhou, she wouldn't treat you like this."
"You treat your mother terribly, how could she possibly like you?"
He Lingchuan had his head down, but when he heard the two children's words, he suddenly looked up and grabbed their hands: "What did you just say?"
Nan Chen was startled by his appearance and stammered, "I said, you, you're learning from Uncle Zhou..."
"You call him Uncle Zhou?"
He Lingchuan was somewhat excited. Were they admitting that he was their father again?
He increased the pressure, and Nan Chen's wrist inevitably turned red: "Did you just call him Uncle Zhou?"
This was the first time the two children had called him Uncle Zhou since Zhou Mingyan returned.
He Lingchuan couldn't help but hug Nan Chen and Bei Chen tightly. He didn't dare to use too much force, afraid of hurting the two children. He was so excited that he was incoherent: "Nan Chen, Bei Chen, you don't hate your dad anymore?"
He Lingchuan's voice choked even more; just now it was filled with grievance, but now it was filled with gratitude.
His efforts over the past few days have paid off, and both children have seen it.
"We didn't dislike you that much to begin with."
Nan Chen's voice was very soft, and he seemed a little embarrassed when he said this.
He Lingchuan looked excited, and the force in his hands increased.
"Let me go, we can't breathe."
Nan Chen's face turned red. He looked at He Lingchuan cautiously, and only spoke after the blush on his face subsided: "Anyway, you have to treat your mother well. Look at how Uncle Zhou treats your mother, and you should learn from him."
Bei Chen nodded in agreement. Although he was the older brother, Nan Chen usually had more ideas.
He glanced at Nan Chen: "Nan Chen and I will help you too."
He Lingchuan was somewhat surprised. He was already quite satisfied that the two children didn't dislike him, so why were they actually going to help him?
Unfortunately, he no longer needs it.
After thinking for a long time, He Lingchuan tried to express his thoughts tactfully: "Nanchen, you shouldn't interfere in the matters between Dad and Mom."
"Why? Don't you like Mommy anymore?"
Like? He Lingchuan thought about it carefully. He really didn't have much feeling left for Shen Yanxi.
"That's one way to understand it."
Bei Chen pouted, his little face scrunched up: "Why? Do you have another wife?"
Children speak without thinking, leaving He Lingchuan both amused and exasperated. He tried his best to explain to Nan Chen and Bei Chen the reason for his separation from Shen Yanxi.
He Lingchuan didn't slander anyone; he just said the two of them weren't a good match.
He Lingchuan sighed halfway through his sentence. Anyway, the children wouldn't understand these things, so he patted them on the shoulder.
Regardless of whether what they said was true or false, He Lingchuan was very grateful.
"But your task now is to rest and recover well. As for your father and mother's affairs, your father will handle them himself."
"Are you really capable of handling this?"
Nan Chen leaned on his arm, her chin resting on his hand, looking worried, like a little adult.
"Trust your father."
Nan Chen and Bei Chen were skeptical. Although He Lingchuan said he could handle it himself, they were still not entirely at ease.
When Zhou Mingyan and Shen Yanxi came to visit them that evening, they intentionally or unintentionally spoke well of He Lingchuan.
The most obvious change was when Nan Chen saw Zhou Mingyan; he greeted him very obediently, "Hello, Uncle Zhou."
Bei Chen stood to the side, concerned about his leg, keeping a noticeably greater distance: "Uncle Zhou, is your leg feeling any better?"
"Uncle Zhou?"
Zhou Mingyan stood there, stunned. He hadn't heard those three words in a long time.
He and Shen Yanxi exchanged a glance, their eyes full of doubt: "Nanchen and Beichen, are you calling them the wrong names?"
Zhou Mingyan squatted down and looked at the two children. He guided them, "You shouldn't call me Uncle Zhou."
"But you're Mom's guest, so shouldn't we call you that?"
Zhou Mingyan had no way to refute this. He smiled awkwardly and reminded the two children, "Call me like you used to, like Dad Zhou?"
Shen Yanxi didn't stop Zhou Mingyan; she was a little puzzled: "How did you get the child to acknowledge you?"
In just a few days, these two children's hearts have already fallen for He Lingchuan; it's a bit too fast.
She couldn't help but wonder, "Did you say something bad about me and Mingyan?"
He Lingchuan resisted rolling his eyes: "If I really said bad things about you, do you think they would still see you now?"
"Then how did you..."
"Xixi, what's wrong with Nanchen and Beichen? Why are they being so distant with me?"
Unable to calm the two children, Zhou Mingyan walked straight to Shen Yanxi and He Lingchuan.
His eyes were full of suspicion, and he asked He Lingchuan with feigned incomprehension, "Mr. He, could it be that you and the two children said something to each other?"
“If I had actually said something, they wouldn’t have treated you this way.”
He Lingchuan sneered, "You two are really on the same wavelength, asking the same questions."
Zhou Mingyan couldn't stand his sarcastic remarks and looked aggrieved.
He hugged the two children and comforted himself, "Is it because your father hasn't come to see you these past few days that you're holding a grudge against me?"
His eyes were filled with pain. Shen Yanxi couldn't bear to look at him and pulled He Lingchuan aside: "What exactly did you say to the children? Why did they stop recognizing Mingyan so quickly?"
“I didn’t say anything.”
He Lingchuan spread his hands, looking indifferent. Seeing Shen Yanxi's anxiety, he deliberately added fuel to the fire: "Isn't this a good thing? It just shows that these two children have good eyesight and know how to judge people."
He Lingchuan was blocked at the door by Shen Yanxi and didn't notice Zhou Mingyan's little actions at all.
While stealing glances at them, Zhou Mingyan took out two pieces of cake: "Nanchen and Beichen, Daddy Zhou is giving you cake. Don't be angry with me, okay? Daddy Zhou didn't mean to not come to see you."
The two children's eyes lit up when they saw the cake. They devoured it, completely ignoring what Zhou Mingyan was saying, and gave perfunctory replies.
