Chapter Ninety-Eight: Planned in Advance

"You've already promised to come back, what more do you want?"

Shen Yanxi was being completely unreasonable. He Lingchuan grew increasingly impatient and turned to leave, but Shen Yanxi grabbed his wrist: "I want you to completely cut off contact with her, instead of remaining entangled like this."

He Lingchuan paused in his steps, looked up, and spoke after a long while: "Cao Xu and I are innocent. This is the last time I will explain this matter. I don't want to mention it again. As for the photos you have, they have violated my portrait rights."

He Lingchuan turned to look at Zhou Mingyan, his words carrying a hidden meaning: "Once I find out who is behind the car accident, I will call the police together. No matter who did it, I will not let them get away with it."

Zhou Mingyan subconsciously swallowed, clasped his hands together, and turned his head away, not wanting Shen Yanxi to see the expression on his face.

He felt a little guilty, and it wasn't until He Lingchuan returned to the room that Zhou Mingyan spoke up to explain himself: "Xixi, you have to believe me. I took the photos so that you could see this man's true colors. I can admit it, but this car accident really has nothing to do with me."

Zhou Mingyan's facial skin trembled with his movements; he looked extremely flustered, as if he were terrified.

Shen Yanxi gently touched his cheek, trying to comfort him in this way.

She took a deep breath and slowly said, "Don't worry, I will continue to investigate the car accident, and I will definitely clear your name."

These words instantly extinguished any remaining hope in Zhou Mingyan's heart. He looked at Shen Yanxi with surprise: "You're going to investigate this matter too?"

His voice unconsciously rose, and Shen Yanxi paused for a few seconds before gently reassuring him, "Don't worry, I won't give anyone the chance to frame you."

She comforted Zhou Mingyan with a gentle expression, completely ignoring the bitter smile on his face.

Zhou Mingyan held Shen Yanxi's hand, feeling increasingly uneasy.

...

Back in his room, He Lingchuan planned to visit the children after everyone had gone to sleep. If Shen Yanxi found out that he had gone to see the children without her permission, she would definitely be angry again.

He Lingchuan tossed and turned in bed, Cao Xue's face appearing in his mind from time to time.

I wonder how Cao Xue is doing now.

He Lingchuan was restless. He waited until late at night, then quietly pushed open the door and saw two children standing in front of him holding dolls.

"dad……"

Nan Chen rubbed her eyes and looked at him with a wronged expression.

He Lingchuan frowned and quickly picked up the two children.

"Why are you barefoot? Where's your mother?"

How could Shen Yanxi let the two children walk barefoot on the ground?

"Dad, are you not going to let us go?"

Nan Chen's voice was trembling with tears as she gripped the pillow tightly with both hands.

"Who told you that?"

He Lingchuan squatted down and hugged the two children in his arms.

Bei Chen looked up obediently, his eyes moist. He bit his lower lip and looked at him with teary eyes: "It was Uncle Zhou who said it. He said you don't want us anymore because you have a new girlfriend and you will have a new baby."

Bei Chen looked at He Lingchuan with a stubborn expression: "If you don't want us anymore, then we don't want you either. Don't ever see us again."

Bei Chen glared fiercely at He Lingchuan, her face stubborn.

He Lingchuan's eyes were full of heartache. He tightened his arms around the two children, his gaze filled with even more heartache.

"Don't listen to other people's nonsense. How could your father abandon you?"

He Lingchuan's eyes were filled with anger. He lowered his voice, not wanting the two children to see him lose his composure: "It's Zhou Mingyan again. He really is a persistent ghost."

Nan Chen stared at He Lingchuan's profile and asked him with concern, "Are you really not going to abandon us?"

He grabbed He Lingchuan by the neck, not believing his words: "Then why don't you come back to see us? I still want to eat your cooking."

He Lingchuan then realized how long it had been since he had been home. He pinched Beichen and Nanchen's noses and said gently, "How about Dad comes home early tomorrow to cook for you?"

"Will you pick us up from kindergarten?"

Bei Chen looked at him expectantly. He Lingchuan hesitated for a moment, but finally agreed: "Dad will pick you up tonight and make sure I'm the first one there."

The two children kept making a fuss at He Lingchuan's place and ended up sleeping there.

The next morning, when Shen Yanxi didn't see the children, she stormed into He Lingchuan's room, yelling, "Nanchen? Beichen? Are you in Daddy's room?"

Shen Yanxi's expression was solemn as she called out and knocked on the door, her knocks becoming increasingly forceful.

The two children had gone to bed late the night before, and He Lingchuan felt sorry for them, so he ran to open the door.

He was only wearing a bathrobe, revealing his well-developed chest muscles. He hadn't been eating much lately and had lost weight.

Compared to before, He Lingchuan has lost a lot of weight and looks much more refreshed, not at all like a father of two.

Shen Yanxi was taken aback, and only after He Lingchuan reminded her did she remember the purpose of her visit.

She coughed softly and peeked into the room: "Are Beichen and Nanchen here? How could you secretly meet with them behind my back?"

"They came on their own."

He Lingchuan explained in a lukewarm tone. Zhou Mingyan, who had been busy downstairs and hadn't seen Shen Yanxi come down yet, jogged up and took over He Lingchuan's words: "Mr. He, I stole a child, so why are you lying?"

"Zhou Mingyan, you need to take responsibility for your words. What do you mean by stealing a child?"

He Lingchuan frowned and retorted with displeasure.

Shen Yanxi frowned, nudged He Lingchuan's shoulder, and walked in. She immediately saw Nan Chen and Bei Chen sleeping and said in a sharp tone, "Mingyan, are you wrong? We clearly agreed that you can't visit the children without my permission. You brought the children to your room without even asking me. Isn't that stealing?"

He Lingchuan's face instantly darkened. He stretched out his hand, issuing an order to leave: "These are my children. Even if I take them to my room, or even if I take them out of this city, you have no right to blame me."

Zhou Mingyan deliberately misinterpreted He Lingchuan's words: "Mr. He, what are you saying? You clearly know that these two children are Xixi's life, yet you still want to take them away. You're trying to force Xixi to her death."

He Lingchuan looked displeased. He raised his head and met Zhou Mingyan's gaze, neither humble nor arrogant: "Can't you understand human language? I was just using an analogy. Stop trying to sow discord here."

Shen Yanxi couldn't stand He Lingchuan shouting at Zhou Mingyan, so she stood in front of him and said, "Is what he said wrong? If you didn't mean it that way, why would you say such a thing? You must have had this plan in mind all along."
