Chapter Seventy-Five: A Solo Walk

He Lingchuan saw through Cao Xue's thoughts and said gently, "You can call me anytime you have time."

No sooner had she finished speaking than Shen Yanxi couldn't help but retort sarcastically, "How come I never noticed you were so kind before?"

Cao Wei sensed the jealousy in her voice and forcefully intervened between Cao Xue and He Lingchuan to smooth things over: "We'll talk about it later, but thank you so much for today."

He Lingchuan waved his hand: "It was nothing."

He looked Cao Xue up and down. She had a rosy complexion and looked very healthy, not at all like someone with heart disease.

Cao Wei stood in front of He Lingchuan, insisting on making it up to him: "Tell me what you want, don't be shy."

"I really don't want anything."

He Lingchuan looked at the person in front of him with some helplessness. He was a little overwhelmed by Cao Wei's enthusiasm and looked to Shen Yanxi for help.

Shen Yanxi glared at He Lingchuan, feeling annoyed, but still stepped forward to help him out: "You don't need to be so polite, this is what he should do."

Shen Yanxi grabbed Cao Wei and her sister's hands and pulled them to her side: "You two go upstairs and rest. I had my assistant book a restaurant, and we'll go out for a meal in a bit."

Cao Wei could probably sense Shen Yanxi's displeasure, and nodded in agreement.

Before going upstairs, Shen Yanxi stood on the stairs and turned to look at He Lingchuan: "If you have nothing else to do, move back in and bring the kids back with you."

"inconvenient."

He Lingchuan rejected Shen Yanxi without even thinking.

He strode past the group, intending to grab the items and leave.

He Lingchuan pushed open the door. The room was cleaned every day, but it was clear that the person cleaning it wasn't very diligent, as there was still dust on the table.

He looked helpless, packed his things, and was about to leave when he heard the door open.

"Brother Lingchuan, are you busy?"

Cao Xue was holding a rag doll, which looked familiar to He Lingchuan. He vaguely remembered seeing this rag doll on Cao Xue's schoolbag when he first met her.

"No, is there something you need?"

He Lingchuan glanced at the door and reminded Cao Xue, "Don't close the door."

If Shen Yanxi were to see the two of them alone in the room, he would be even more unable to explain himself.

Cao Xue stuck out her tongue, stepped forward, and placed the doll in He Lingchuan's hands: "I'm sorry, it was my oversight."

He Lingchuan looked at Cao Xue with some confusion, and heard her say, "Sister Xixi was just saying things in anger, don't take it to heart, you two shouldn't argue."

He Lingchuan then realized that Cao Xue had come for his own good; she had given him the doll to comfort him.

He Lingchuan smiled helplessly and patted her head: "Don't worry, I won't argue with her."

"real?"

Cao Xue was skeptical until she received a definite answer from He Lingchuan, at which point she breathed a sigh of relief.

With just over ten minutes left before He Lingchuan's original departure time, he slung his bag over his shoulder and said goodbye to Cao Xue: "Have fun, I'm leaving now."

He Lingchuan pushed open the door and had just stepped out when Cao Xue grabbed his backpack strap: "Brother Lingchuan, can I go out with you?"

"Will you come out with me?"

He Lingchuan looked at the person behind him with a surprised expression. If Cao Wei and Shen Yanxi knew that he had gone out alone with her, they would definitely start to overthink things.

He didn't want to cause trouble and was about to refuse when he heard Cao Xue say pitifully, "I remember there was an amusement park less than a kilometer from here. My mother used to bring me here often when I was a child, but I got sick and never came again."

She lowered her head somewhat dejectedly, her voice low and somber: "I haven't been there in a long time. My sister won't take me either. She says I'll get excited and hurt if I go."

Cao Xue's pitiful appearance moved He Lingchuan. He thought of Nan Chen and Bei Chen. If they had heart disease, he would not have taken them to the amusement park again.

In that case, they will probably always have a regret in their hearts.

He Lingchuan's lips moved, and after a long internal struggle, he finally spoke: "Are you sure that me taking you there won't upset your sister? And what about your health? Are you sure nothing will happen to you?"

He Lingchuan can take her there, but if something really happens, who will take responsibility?

Cao Xue looked at He Lingchuan very seriously and nodded: "I know my own body, I definitely won't have a relapse."

She looked at He Lingchuan with a determined expression and raised her hand: "Brother Lingchuan, please take me with you. I don't want to play, I just want to go and have a look."

Cao Xue crossed her arms over her chest and looked at him pitifully.

He Lingchuan prepared himself for a while, but eventually compromised: "I can only take you there for half an hour, but you have to tell your sister that you can only go after you get her permission, and you have to bring your medicine with you."

He Lingchuan, still worried, instructed Cao Xue to make preparations before departure. In his eyes, Cao Xue was just a child, and he had to shoulder the responsibilities of a man.

To convince He Lingchuan that Cao Wei had agreed, Cao Xue deliberately kept the chat history between the two sisters.

Before setting off, He Lingchuan checked everything again to make sure Cao Xue was alright. Fortunately, Cao Xue was quite obedient, and He Lingchuan's anxiety gradually subsided.

The villa was only ten minutes away from the amusement park that Cao Xue had mentioned. As soon as Cao Xue saw the amusement park gate, she couldn't wait to run inside.

He Lingchuan followed behind her, reminding her like an old father: "Don't run too fast."

Cao Xue's condition is not serious, and she has fewer relapses; otherwise, Cao Wei wouldn't have let her go out alone with a man.

He Lingchuan was unaware of these things, and patiently reminded Cao Xue to be careful from behind again and again.

Finally, Cao Xue stopped in front of a carousel, looking wistful. Hearing footsteps slowly catching up behind her, she said, "I loved riding carousels when I was little."

He Lingchuan paused, then belatedly realized that Cao Xue was talking to him.

However, she didn't seem to care whether she would respond or not, and continued to say, "Later I got sick and never played again. I even had to be watched when I went out. I argued with my parents many times because of this. Once I disobeyed and secretly ran out to play. My mother got into a car accident while chasing after me."

When Cao Xue spoke the last two words, her breathing became noticeably heavier.

He Lingchuan looked at the person beside him with some nervousness. Sensing the change in He Lingchuan's emotions, Cao Xue smiled slightly: "Brother Lingchuan, don't worry, I'm not that fragile."

Cao Xue's smile was forced, and in the sunlight, the tears glistening in her eyes were clearly visible.

He Lingchuan felt a pang of heartache and took out the amulet he always carried with him: "Take it."
