Chapter Sixty-Four: He Lingchuan Contracts a Vitiligo

"There are people here who cook for us, so I don't need to."

He Lingchuan's refusal was very clear, but Zhou Mingyan acted as if he hadn't heard him and kept trying to persuade him from the side.

Other guests chimed in, "Everyone says Mr. He's cooking is superb; we'd like to try it too."

"If we miss this opportunity, I really don't know when we'll get another chance."

Shen Yanxi patted He Lingchuan on the shoulder: "Mom's taste is similar to mine. She would be very happy if she knew that you cooked a meal for her yourself."

Shen Yanxi looked at He Lingchuan's bulging pocket with some disdain: "This gift is much better than your jade pendant."

As she spoke, she began to show a look of disgust. He Lingchuan wanted to refuse, but there were too many people trying to persuade him, and even Shen's mother looked in their direction.

If I keep disagreeing, it would be disrespectful to the Shen family.

Just this once.

He Lingchuan looked at Zhou Mingyan: "Don't cause trouble in the future."

He reminded Zhou Mingyan not to meddle in other people's business, and also subtly reminded the others.

Before entering the kitchen, He Lingchuan told them, "I'm used to cooking for the children, so I'm afraid it won't suit your tastes."

"It's nothing, it's just the thought that counts."

He Lingchuan frowned and entered the kitchen surrounded by them.

In just one hour, He Lingchuan prepared four dishes and a soup, which was indeed very fast, but they didn't look very appetizing.

"Isn't this a bit too bland?"

He Lingchuan placed the prepared dishes in the middle so that others could easily reach them.

Faced with the questions, he explained calmly and confidently: "I mainly cook with the children's tastes in mind. Besides the children, the elders are also not suitable to eat too much oily food."

Especially for Shen Yanxi's mother, whose health is not particularly good, she still needs to pay attention to her diet.

Shen Yanxi was the first to sit down. She scooped up a bowl of soup, and as soon as she took a sip, she exclaimed, "Where is it bland? I think it's delicious!"

She had been eating He Lingchuan's cooking ever since she got married, and had long been used to the light flavors.

The others looked puzzled, but after hearing her say that, they all tried it. As soon as they took a sip, Sister-in-law Shen began to criticize He Lingchuan: "This soup has no flavor at all, it's too fishy."

She deliberately provoked someone by throwing the spoon on the table and never touching the bowl of soup again.

Shen Yanxi frowned, somewhat dissatisfied: "Sister-in-law, I think this soup is just right."

This time, she was clearly on He Lingchuan's side, and the children also sided with He Lingchuan: "Dad's cooking is the best."

"I also like my dad's cooking the most."

He Lingchuan's eyes were full of affection. He touched the two children's foreheads and smiled, "Thank you, babies. Eat more if you like."

Nan Chen enjoyed the meal and suggested taking a family photo: "Our teacher told us to bring our own photos to school before, but I asked my aunt to look for a family photo for a long time but she couldn't find one. Let's take one in a bit."

Bei Chen clapped his hands and chimed in, "That's right, that's right, our school has a group photo, but ours is the only one that doesn't."

He looked a little aggrieved. Shen Yanxi felt sorry for the child and touched Beichen's little face: "How about we take the picture after we finish eating?"

The two children cheered and jumped for joy, and the whole dinner table was quite harmonious. Only Zhou Mingyan had a dark face and looked at He Lingchuan with dissatisfaction.

After everyone had finished making a fuss, Zhou Mingyan couldn't sit still anymore.

He remembered that Shen Yanxi had told him before that He Lingchuan was allergic to peanuts, so he specially asked the servant to put peanut stewed pig's trotters in front of He Lingchuan. He acted like the master of the house and invited He Lingchuan: "Mr. He, please try this dish, especially the side dishes. I bet you have never eaten them before."

He Lingchuan refused without even looking at it: "I don't want to eat it."

"This is Xixi's favorite dish."

Zhou Mingyan put down his chopsticks and looked at Shen Yanxi with deep affection: "You're so smart, you'll know how to make this dish after just one taste. Once you learn it, you can make it for Xixi too."

He Lingchuan paused in his act of picking up food: "Are you... doing me a favor?"

Zhou Mingyan sighed helplessly, adopting a victim-like posture: "Mr. He, you misunderstood me. I just wanted you to try it."

He Lingchuan squinted, intending to continue refusing, but Mother Shen had already placed a bowl of pig's trotter soup in front of him.

"It's not that you have to learn it. Just try it. The pig's trotters that the housekeeper sells are very fresh."

Since Mother Shen had spoken, He Lingchuan felt embarrassed to refuse and could only grit his teeth and drink the whole bowl of soup.

He originally wanted to keep the peanuts, but his mother reminded him that the peanuts were the essence, so He Lingchuan had no choice but to drink all the soup.

Less than half an hour later, He Lingchuan's body started to itch.

He was restless and a layer of red spots appeared on his neck.

Sister-in-law Shen was the first to notice that something was wrong with him. She covered her nose and took a few steps back. Just as she was about to ask what happened, she noticed that He Lingchuan's arm was also covered with red spots.

She was terrified and, before she could figure out what was wrong, she started yelling, "Oh my god, He Lingchuan has a heart attack! You all need to stay away from him!"

Shen Yanxi knew he had eaten peanuts for dinner. When she heard this, she was about to go over, but someone grabbed her wrist and said, "Don't go. He has an internal organ disease that is contagious."

"What dirty disease? What nonsense are you talking about?"

Shen Yanxi pushed his hand away and walked towards He Lingchuan. She pushed through the crowd and saw He Lingchuan standing alone in the middle, his eyes red as he confronted them.

"I already told you it's an allergy."

He Lingchuan's allergy symptoms were more severe than others, and each time they almost killed him.

In less than an hour, his eyelids swelled up, and he swayed as if he might fall at any moment.

"Nonsense, allergies aren't as severe as yours."

Shen Yanxi looked in the direction of the voice and felt that the speaker looked familiar. She guessed it was some distant relative she had only met a few times.

"You must be sick, you slut. You're sick and you still come to the banquet. I think you're doing this on purpose. You want to infect us. You're really wicked."

The man pointed and whispered at He Lingchuan. With three people making a tiger out of a tale, each of them could drown He Lingchuan in their spittle.

They wouldn't let it go, shouting for He Lingchuan to get out.

Shen Yanxi pushed aside the person blocking her way and walked towards the one who was shouting. With a slap, the person's shouting stopped abruptly. She covered her face and looked at Shen Yanxi in disbelief: "What are you doing? You actually hit me?"

“I already told you he has an allergy. Let’s see who dares to say he has an internal organ disease.”

"You say it's an allergy, so it's an allergy? How do we know if you're telling the truth?"

The man yelled at Shen Yanxi at the top of his lungs, completely disregarding his own dignity.

"You don't believe me? Fine, I'll call the doctor right now and let him make a diagnosis."
