The elevator was falling much faster than he had imagined. He dared not move and could only wait for the people outside to find him.
He Lingchuan tried to minimize the space he occupied, leaning against the corner, but he was still inevitably squeezed. His newly healed arm made a cracking sound as the bones broke, and the pain spread throughout his body.
Not only that, he also suffered a severe head injury. One of his arms was crushed by a piece of metal that flew out and pierced through it. He was covered in sweat, and blood flowed throughout the elevator.
Fortunately, the whole process stopped in less than 30 seconds, and the elevator doors remained completely still.
He pinched his own legs to force himself to stay awake, and with his last bit of strength, he called the alarm. The alarm finally went off, and he vaguely heard someone shouting above him.
Is anyone there? Is someone inside?
He Lingchuan's throat tightened; people often lose their voice when they are nervous.
If he hadn't reacted quickly in that life-or-death moment, he would most likely have lost his life.
He gently tapped on the elevator, trying to make a sound to alert the people upstairs.
The person on the other end quickly received the message and lowered his voice to remind He Lingchuan, "Wait for me inside. Don't move around. I'll call someone over right away."
"Go ahead."
He Lingchuan squatted on the ground for a while to recover, and was finally able to make a sound.
Hearing his words, the people above were relieved.
Less than five minutes after he left, He Lingchuan heard a series of hurried footsteps above him.
In less than ten minutes, He Lingchuan was successfully pulled up by them.
His injuries weren't as severe as the last one, but just in case, he still needed to go to the hospital for treatment.
The staff member looked at the elevator, puzzled: "How did you get on this elevator? I clearly remember there was a maintenance sign in front of this elevator."
He Lingchuan was stunned. He carefully recalled the process before he got on the elevator: "I did see a maintenance sign, but the sign was placed at the elevator entrance next to me."
"That's impossible."
The staff member scratched his head: "Are you sure you're not mistaken? How could we possibly put it at another elevator entrance? We would never make such a serious mistake."
He Lingchuan looked around but didn't see anyone suspicious.
"Let's check the security cameras."
He straightened up, his back aching terribly. He could only walk a few steps with his back bent over and supported by these people.
"I don't have the energy to go with you to check the surveillance footage right now. I'll come find you as soon as I've had my wound checked, bandaged, and discharged from the hospital."
According to the staff, the elevator had been broken for a long time.
To prevent people from using this elevator, they put up signs early on.
But he didn't see it when he came over, which is enough to show that someone wanted to harm him.
"That person must not have gone far."
He only harmed himself, so he certainly didn't want to implicate others. Therefore, he must have been secretly observing and making sure that the maintenance sign was put back after the elevator was in place.
He Lingchuan felt a headache coming on and couldn't think straight. He simply thanked the person who saved him and then called Gu Chengze to report the situation after getting into the ambulance.
"Wait here, I'll go find the property management and security guards right now."
"It shouldn't have anything to do with them."
He Lingchuan explained his analysis point by point: "If I'm not mistaken, this should also be Zhou Mingyan's doing."
He always wanted to die, whether by accident or intentionally, so that as long as he died, Zhou Mingyan wouldn't have to worry about anyone competing with him for Shen Yanxi.
After all, he and Shen Yanxi do have two children, and these two children are enough to serve as a bond between them.
"That's outrageous, he's utterly inhuman."
Gu Chengze paced back and forth angrily, promising on the phone that he would definitely get justice for him.
"Chengze, you don't need to offend him..."
Before He Lingchuan could speak, Gu Chengze had already hung up the phone.
He felt somewhat helpless; his wounds were in great pain, so he could only let Gu Chengze do as he pleased.
All he wants now is a good night's sleep so his body can recover.
He Lingchuan had barely lain down when he received a call from Shen Yanxi.
She immediately began by scolding, "Why haven't you come back yet? I didn't eat much at the banquet. I thought you would cook something since you came back early."
He Lingchuan had just heard the door close; it must have been closed by the person behind him.
"He Lingchuan, don't take yourself too seriously. You really expect me to come and invite you?"
"Okay, if you want to come, just come to the hospital and ask me to come."
He Lingchuan was more annoyed than anyone else. It was bad enough that Shen Yanxi had repeatedly allowed Zhou Mingyan to oppose him, but now she was even allowing him to frame him. He now suspected that Zhou Mingyan dared to take action because of Shen Yanxi's instructions.
He couldn't help but retaliate with harsh words: "Damn it, I'm a regular at the hospital now."
"Stop being sarcastic with me. You've been going to the hospital every other day since you started hanging out with that so-called friend of yours. Do I need to explain what's going on? You'd better come back soon. At least you'll be safer at home."
"You mean my friend wants to harm me?"
He Lingchuan found it amusing: "If I really want to save my life, the best way is for you to stay away from you."
He Lingchuan took a deep breath, his wounds aching, and said firmly, "Don't call me again."
He just wants to cut ties with this woman now.
He hung up the phone before Shen Yanxi could speak.
Hearing the busy tone from the other end, Shen Yanxi almost dropped her phone on the ground.
"Did you hear what he said? What kind of attitude is that?"
Shen Yanxi's face turned red with anger: "Hospitalized? I don't believe he encounters danger every day."
He just wanted to soften her heart and make her go see him.
Seeing Shen Yanxi's annoyed expression, Zhou Mingyan looked at her with concern and said, "Xixi, don't be angry with him. Let's just ignore him, okay?"
"No, how can I let him get away with talking to me like that?"
Shen Yanxi pushed Zhou Mingyan's hand away and poured herself a glass of wine, drinking it all in one gulp.
He seemed particularly concerned about He Lingchuan's attitude today.
Perhaps because of the alcohol, Shen Yanxi's cheeks were flushed, and she kept calling out He Lingchuan's name.
"Xixi, you're only hurting yourself by getting angry like this. Let's not have any contact with him anymore, okay?"
Zhou Mingyan wanted to take this opportunity to completely sever the connection between the two of them.
Shen Yanxi disagreed: "No, I can't swallow this. I have to make him suffer. I've been too nice to him lately, and he's getting more and more demanding and doesn't respect me anymore."
Shen Yanxi glanced at Zhou Mingyan and whispered to him, "You should rest well. From now on, I will handle our affairs myself. You don't need to worry about it."
