Chapter Twenty-Six: Overwork

“I originally thought that your apology to Zhou Mingyan and me was the most unbearable thing for me.”

He raised his head, trying to hold back his tears: "I was still too naive."

He almost forgot that they had a child, a child he had devoted himself to caring for for so many years, and that he chose Zhou Mingyan at the last moment.

He didn't understand how Shen Yanxi could have the nerve to let him go see them.

“They have Zhou Mingyan now, they don’t need me at all.”

"You are their father."

Shen Yanxi couldn't believe He Lingchuan was so heartless. She chased after him and shouted, "Can you really never see them again for the rest of your life?"

“You’re wrong. It’s not a lifetime, but there’s no need for them to meet. They already have a father, Zhou Mingyan. Having another father would be a burden for them.”

Besides, they didn't really like themselves to begin with.

That's why he doesn't go; his wife and children don't like her, so why should he go after her?

Shen Yanxi watched his departing figure with some anxiety and ran after him.

She had only taken two steps when a muffled groan came from behind her.

"Xixi, wait for me, I'll go find him with you."

Zhou Mingyan was leaning half his body against the wall, looking like he might faint at any moment.

How are you?

Shen Yanxi had to give up halfway through the chase. She turned back to Zhou Mingyan, looking anxious: "How are you feeling? Is anything bothering you?"

Hearing Shen Yanxi's words, Zhou Mingyan breathed a sigh of relief. He rubbed his temples and said, "I'm just a little dizzy and have a headache. It's probably because too many things have happened recently. I'm a bit tired."

Shen Yanxi turned her attention away from He Lingchuan and took Zhou Mingyan's arm, letting him lean half of his body against hers: "I'll take you to the hospital now."

The two of them helped each other away, passing right in front of He Lingchuan's car.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Gu Chengze watched them being all lovey-dovey and was furious: "These two really don't care about anything anymore."

What's there to care about?

If you finally meet someone you liked when you were young, you should definitely give it your all.

He Lingchuan suddenly remembered that on the day of his wedding, when he agreed to marry Shen Yanxi, he had not considered what his future would be like.

Back then, he was full of enthusiasm and only thought that he could warm Chen Yanxi's heart. Now it seems that he was too narrow-minded.

"let's go."

His voice trembled, and a sharp headache came from his chest.

He drove past the company, hesitated for a moment, and looked at Gu Chengze: "Can't you just take a taxi later?"

Gu Chengze couldn't drive after drinking, and it was already past midnight. Gu Chengze glanced at his phone: "I probably won't be able to get a taxi."

"I'll call them for you."

As he spoke, he opened the car door, intending to hail a taxi by the roadside: "There are still plenty of taxis available at this time."

"Wait, wait a minute."

Gu Chengze saw through his intention and grabbed his wrist as he unbuckled his seatbelt: "And what about you?"

"I still have some work to finish."

"No, you must go home and rest now."

Gu Chengze looked at him domineeringly: "You've been working for so long, you have to go home and rest now."

"I'm fine."

He Lingchuan was about to persuade Gu Chengze when he felt his body sway slightly as soon as he stood up.

He seemed to have all his strength suddenly drained away, and he didn't even have the strength to lift his eyelids.

Gu Chengze stared at him for a long time, then suddenly stood up and opened his arms to catch his shoulders: "Ling Chuan, Ling Chuan? What's wrong?"

He placed the person in the passenger seat, sprayed some water on his face, and only then did He Lingchuan open his eyes.

His movements were slow, as if the footage had been deliberately slowed down.

"Lingchuan, what's wrong with you?"

Hearing his words, He Lingchuan's expression became somewhat strange.

He rubbed his eyes and refocused before speaking: "I'm fine, just a little dizzy. I'll be fine after resting for a while."

"You still want to go back to work like this? Are you trying to kill yourself?"

He clearly fainted just now; he must have been exhausted.

"I'll take you to the hospital now."

"No need, it's just a minor thing, why go to the hospital?"

He was preoccupied with the unfinished program and just wanted to get back to the company as soon as possible.

"Why don't you have your driver come pick you up, and I'll give you the car keys?"

"Are you absolutely determined to go to work?"

Gu Chengze said with exasperation, "What are you trying to do now?"

"It's not about trying hard, I just want to find something to do."

If he doesn't do something soon, he might go crazy.

His mind was now filled with the image of Shen Yanxi helping Zhou Mingyan leave.

In his memory, Shen Yanxi had never been so gentle to him.

His heart felt like it was going to break, and he felt like he couldn't breathe. He had to find something to do to distract himself.

Gu Chengze saw through his intentions at a glance: "It's just a divorce, what's the big deal? How long are you going to torture yourself like this?"

He looked at He Lingchuan with a helpless expression, wishing he could slap him awake.

"I just want to speed up the progress."

No matter what he said, He Lingchuan always gave the same answer.

Gu Chengze looked helpless and had no choice but to comply: "Let's go, let's go now."

In his current state, he needs someone by his side.

Given his condition, he could easily die suddenly at the company and no one would even know.

"Where are you coming with me?"

"I just happened to be looking at the contracts; there are probably a few that haven't been signed yet. I'll keep you company."

He Lingchuan looked completely bewildered: "I don't need you to accompany me."

"You need it, you absolutely need it."

Gu Chengze didn't give him a chance to refute himself, and instead hooked his arm around his neck and walked into the company.

At this time, the place was deserted except for the two elite individuals working overtime.

He Lingchuan was initially embarrassed, but after half an hour, he became so engrossed in his work that he almost forgot there was someone next to him.

By the time he felt dizzy and lightheaded, it was too late.

He pressed one hand against the table, his fingertips gripping the grain of the table, and before he could even make a sound, he fell off the chair.

The last thing Gu Chengze saw was He Lingchuan swaying as he stood up, raising his hand as if to say something to him.

Before he could even speak, he had already fallen off the chair.

He threw down the documents in his hand and ran over: "Ling Chuan, wake up, can you hear me?"

He slapped He Lingchuan's cheek while dialing for an ambulance.

When the ambulance arrived, the left side of He Lingchuan's face was even a little swollen.

"Why did he faint, doctor? Is his life in danger?"

Are you a family member of the patient?

"I, I'm not, I'm just his friend."
