Shen Yanxi stared blankly as she looked Zhou Mingyan up and down, accepting his explanation.
"You're right, you're the only one who's truly good to me."
Her tone was fierce, her fists clenched, and she nestled in Zhou Mingyan's arms, muttering to herself, "He Lingchuan, how dare you treat me like this? I will never let you get away with this."
...
Somehow, word got to Shen's mother that He Lingchuan and Shen Yanxi were fighting for custody.
When He Lingchuan learned that Shen's mother was waiting for him in the conference room, he immediately put down the tools in his hand and went to Shen's mother.
He pushed open the door and offered to explain, "I was planning to tell you after this matter was resolved."
His mother treated him quite well, and if Shen Yanxi hadn't gone too far, he wouldn't have planned to fight for custody.
Hearing his words, Mother Shen raised her head expressionlessly and slowly said, "Logically speaking, this is a matter between the two of them, and I have no right to interfere. But Nan Chen and Bei Chen are, after all, my grandsons, and I cannot sit idly by."
Mother Shen patted the chair next to her, gesturing for He Lingchuan to sit down.
He Lingchuan hesitated for a moment, and seeing that Mother Shen's expression was rather unpleasant, he reluctantly sat down.
Chen's mother glanced at He Lingchuan out of the corner of her eye and said like an elder lecturing a younger person, "Tell me, what is it that you two can't understand? How did things come to this?"
She sighed, feeling sorry for He Lingchuan: "You just got a divorce like that? You're just willingly handing Xixi over to someone else?"
Mother Shen looked at He Lingchuan with a helpless expression, her eyes full of regret: "Can't you two just remarry? Did you have to come to this?"
He Lingchuan was completely bewildered. He reached out his hand and looked at Shen's mother with some confusion: "Aunt Shen, aren't we discussing custody? Why are you bringing up divorce?"
Mother Shen looked at He Lingchuan with some dissatisfaction and said angrily, "I never wanted you two to get a divorce from the beginning. What do you think I'm doing all these banquets for? Isn't it all to get you two back together?"
She paused, then poured out all her thoughts: "I originally thought that if I didn't rush you and gave you time, you would naturally reconcile. I never expected that you would actually end up fighting for custody."
Her face turned pale with anger, and only then did she begin to show her emotions: "Those two children have never been separated since they were born, how can you bear to separate them?"
The last words from Shen's mother struck a chord with He Lingchuan, as he had been considering this very issue for a long time before deciding to fight for custody.
Nan Chen and Bei Chen have been together since childhood; they have never been separated from each other.
He was also worried that forcing them apart would have a negative impact on their lives.
But it's unrealistic to take both children back.
He Lingchuan raised his head and expressed his concerns: "Aunt Shen, I don't want to do this either, but the problem is that Shen Yanxi won't let me see the child at all, and I have no other choice."
In the past, he wouldn't have cared, since the children didn't like him anyway.
But things are different now. The children need him, and he also needs to take on the responsibility of being a father as the children grow up.
"Then let's remarry."
Mother Shen looked at him very seriously: "Isn't this a very simple matter?"
After saying this, before He Lingchuan could respond, Mother Shen spoke again: "I know you've been looking for a source of inspiration for Cao Xue recently."
He Lingchuan looked up abruptly, his face filled with shock: "How did you know?"
She was examining herself? That was the only reasonable reason He Lingchuan could think of.
But Mother Shen wouldn't do that!
He frowned, his eyes filled with vigilance this time.
Seeing his wariness, Mother Shen gently patted the back of his hand: "Look at you, why are you so nervous? I heard it from my friends. You know, the hardest thing to hide in this circle is a secret."
Shen's mother's words sounded somewhat threatening.
He Lingchuan raised an eyebrow: "What do you mean?"
Chen's mother said very frankly, "As long as you give up fighting for custody of Xixi, I can help you find Xinyuan."
He Lingchuan chuckled self-deprecatingly: "Is this a transaction?"
He stood up, looked at Chen's mother, and, suppressing his anger, questioned her: "I am a father, and I love my child."
He Lingchuan spoke firmly. Seeing that Chen's mother was stunned, he took a deep breath and continued, "I really want to help Cao Xue find a suitable donor, but I will never give up on my child. This is not something a father should do."
He lowered his head, his eyes resolute: "Please go back."
Chen's mother looked at He Lingchuan with some surprise: "You don't want to save people anymore?"
He Lingchuan replied calmly and confidently, "I can find it myself."
He wasn't without friends, and he believed he could definitely help Cao Xue find a suitable match.
Upon hearing his words, Mother Shen gave him an approving look.
She smiled slightly, then suddenly affirmed He Lingchuan: "I knew I hadn't misjudged him."
He Lingchuan is indeed a responsible man.
Unfortunately, Xixi was not blessed.
Knowing that she couldn't persuade He Lingchuan, Shen's mother got up with some regret.
Before leaving, she couldn't help but say, "Ling Chuan, since you're so adamant, I can't say anything more. But since you say you're a father, you should consider things from your child's perspective. Do you think Nan Chen wants to separate from Bei Chen?"
After leaving those words, Mother Shen turned and left.
She had barely left the meeting room when Cao Xue pushed open the door and entered.
She looked at He Lingchuan with some concern and a guilty expression: "Brother Lingchuan, I heard you talking just now. I'm sorry, it's all my fault for dragging you into this."
He Lingchuan's wandering thoughts were pulled back by Cao Xue's voice. He paused for a few seconds, looking puzzled, and asked, "What does this have to do with you?"
“If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have argued with Aunt Shen.”
She stepped forward and looked at He Lingchuan with great understanding: "Brother Lingchuan, you don't need to find me any source of heart energy. I can find it myself, and my sister will help me too."
Cao Xue's complexion has improved a lot after undergoing chemotherapy.
But they all knew that without a heart transplant, Cao Xue would have to continue chemotherapy, and her body would eventually collapse.
Therefore, they must find a suitable donor as soon as possible.
Cao Xue is a sensible child. She had overheard He Lingchuan and Shen's mother's conversation outside and thought that their argument was because of her, so she came to apologize.
He Lingchuan felt a pang of heartache seeing Cao Xu's cautious demeanor.
He patted Cao Xue's head and said gently, "Don't worry, I will definitely help you find a suitable heart donor. What you need to do now is to take good care of your body so that you will have the strength to go to the operating table."
Cao Xue looked up, her eyes filled with tears. She sniffed and threw herself into He Lingchuan's arms: "Brother Lingchuan, thank you."
